Sharing Custom Critters

Custom Critters and Critter Groups are saved as text files so it's a simple task of dropping a copy of a particular file into the Critter/Group folder. The next time you go into "My Creations" in AE, the new Critter/Group will be there.

That being the case, I was wondering if there was an on-line repository or database of some kind where people share their Custom Critters.

Years ago when AE first came out I got a few requests for my bad guys in my Shard of Destiny Task Force. I was glad to share them with the guys directly, but a repository like in other games would ROCK THE HOUSE.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Back when the AE first came out, some one set up a site somewhere for something like this... yes it's a vague blur to me now... but I don't recall it ever seeing much action and I think it's gone these days or getting pretty much no action, as I haven't seen it mentioned in a good long time.

I can see the sharing function being good for farmers I guess, or maybe RPers who want to spin work off their friends', but usually I think most of us AEers are too busy trying to turn out our own original work to find the time for writing up something with other people's stock players.* Then again, that may be old school thinking now that you can have more than 8 arcs...

*Not to denigrate your interest in such a thing, mind you, but it obviously wasn't too popular back when AE first started and back then our numbers were much larger.

I like the idea but the big problem now is that with so many costume options being purchasable now, if you upload a character or group the other person would have to have EVERY clothing piece unlocked. It would be a lot of incompatibility.

I even tried to do something similar with my second account, and since my second account has next to no costume purchases I couldn't access nearly 50% of the characters because I happened to use things from the mutant booster pack and vanguard pieces and defense set pieces, etc.

So it would be a hassle to work with, but the core idea is pretty cool.

I too vaguely remember something like that. Used to have several (4-ish maybe?) sites that were dedicate to sharing AE stuff in one way or another. None of them ever got enough action going on that I bothered to re-find them after forgetting to backup my bookmarks before going to a new computer.

It might be instructive to help new people get into the AE stuff to come up with a well documented tutorial arc that they can download and use to learn the basics of making an AE mission with a variety of (interesting) objectives. Kind of like that 15 minute tutorial arc that's in AE already, but letting people get a maintained .storyarc file that they can open in the AE interface.

Not that there's a lot of new AE authors... sigh

Edit: I'm just going to add in that it would be nice if we could share some of those resources in-game instead of having to send files to each other. "Oh you like that enemy, let me have the AE system send it to you via in-game mail."

I think it would very cool if we had something along these lines. How well would a site like mediafile.com do for this?
