Normal People;Different Charachter Slot Names(Secret Identity Fun)

Now,this idea would be for those who love to give their charachters secret identities, but anyone could use it if they wanted to.

1)For starters, what if you could create a totally normal person as one of your charachter slot? This person would be able to walk or run and that is it,and they would be a players secret identity and you could give them any job whether it would be at a hospital,a university,or a train station or whatever a player would want to give their civilian identity.A players powers wouldnt even be shaded out in this case, they would be completely gone as your civilain identity.

2)Different charachter slot names would certainly make a secret identity more fun.For instance, you could create your normal person first off when you first create your charachter..

Charachter slot 1:John Doe

..and then when you click on another costume slot, that costume could have your hero or villain name!

Charachter slot 2:Hero or Villain Name.

You could name your charachter slots and those names would appear over your charachters head as you play! You could go from one to another as BRUCE BANNER changes into the INCREDIBLE HULK,or BRUCE WAYNE into BATMAN,or CLARK KENT into SUPERMAN.

Just an idea.

1. Clark Kent regularly lowers his glasses and uses heat vision. He doesn't even lower them using X-ray vision. Not to mention no change at all when using breath powers.

Sue Storm can go invisible no matter what clothes she wears (although the clothes may not disappear) and can cast her force fields when in street clothes.

Just two small examples, many more exist.

2. There are several methods that will let anyone get the global name of a character, no matter what the local name may be displaying. So much for a "secret" identity.

I'm not sure if the tech exists for different names to be displayed dependent on the costume slot used. I imagine it wouldn't be a simple task to recode everything to allow that option to work. It's certainly way too much work for something so trivial.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I don't like your idea, mainly because of what TJ exposed.

Well, apart from the secret identity name change, I simulate this with the costume slot I purchased from Paragon market and a free tailor token. Having two costumes ready at Lv1 means I can have my civilian and super IDs ready as soon as I get to the trainer or Icon/Facemaker.

As for 'recoding everything aka. standard code rant', I don't pretend to know how much work goes into changing aspects of the game and then make snap-judgements on suggestions (or perform a borderline +1 post agreeing with said SCR), but I'd imagine that if you had a civilian name it would have to meet the no-duplicates rule that all character names have to obey per server, and that could be problematic in that your chosen name could be taken by someone else and also perhaps stop someone else from using that name for their own base hero/villain.

It would be nice to be able to emphasise this aspect of superhero/villain culture but it presents naming issues. I think you're better off just putting your character's secret/civilian name in the description and possibly gaining your second costume slot as early as possible.

Additionally, I don't agree much with the power-suppression of civilian IDs, like TJ's Clark Kent example provides. But as for secret identities actually being a real secret, does that really matter that players in the real world would still know who you are? It's mostly dumb critters and NPCs that will pay attention to it, it doesn't invalidate the suggestion entirely.

stark(iron man), hulk, war machine. not to mention, the point of a secret identity is to keep it secret and if you use your powers, it's a secret no longer. I would like a purchaseable costume slot that enables you to have both costumes have independant alignments. I.E. one a hero, one a villain. Though ... I bet it breaks the core code and they wouldn't do for that reason ... but it would still be nice.

I can't really see a benefit to doing this. It's an interesting RP idea, but the bulk of the game is about superheroes, not their alter-egos. Secret identities make for good story material and drama fodder, two things that are very, very hard to pull off convincingly in an MMO. It would be a lot of extra work for content that most players would ignore anyways.

Unneeded. Make a civvie costume and turn on [Walk]. Sorted.
