Plant/Kinetic controller, looking for suggestions on a build

Granite Agent

I found a build elsewhere on the forums and tweaked it to suit my aesthic requirements (no Earth Armor, looks like cr@p). But its not performing as well as I'd have expected. Any suggestions?

Weblogs and forums prove to me that Theodore Sturgeon was right, however, his estimate was on the low side.

<sigh> I feel as though I have said this a dozen times lately: You will probably get more responses if you post the actual build rather than the Data Chunk alone. Some people don't have Mids because they look at the forums at work or they may run a Mac rather than a PC. Some of us want to take a quick look at the build to see if it is worth commenting on or if there is something that merits a comment before bothering to load it up in Mids.

true enough. I updated the original post once I figured out how to actually get the expanded profile out of Mids.

I suggest you use the Short Form Export and click the box to include the Data Chunk . . . a quirk of the forums is that if you go back and edit a page with a data link on it, it breaks the link.

Looking at your build, I'm confused about something: You have focused on Defense, including two sets of Kinetic Combat specifically for S/L defense, and yet you did not take Rock Armor?

I'm not a fan of the Stealth pool. The defense suppresses, and frankly ever since Stealth IOs were introduced into the game, the Stealth Pool has become mostly unnecessary. You can get full invisibility AND a travel power in Super Speed with a Celerity Stealth IO. Since you were already taking Hasten, you don't have to dip into another pool.

I tried to rework your build with some changes that I would like to see. I changed it over to Super Speed (if you need vertical travel, just use a Raptor Pack!) with a Stealth IO for full invis. I added in Rock Armor and got you over 45% S/L Defense.

Thanks Lman. My biggest challenge with this character is that in order to take advantage of transfusion et ali, I tend to play pretty close to the action. Hence the (perceived) need for high defenses.

I'd love to see a build that offered other options.

For my Plant/Kin, I find my main strategy is to control first before running in to use the melee buffs. Hit the group with Seeds+Roots and they won't be shooting at you. Seeds+Roots+Creepers will usually handle/distract groups with bosses. You can also use Twoey as a decoy if you have full invisibility, but that will often get the pet killed. By using that strategy and building for Recharge, you can get by without Defense. The other way to get by without Defense is to play on teams . . . let the tank draw the aggro and they won't shoot at you.

I can certainly understand the desire for high defense. What confused me about your build is that you had a defensive build but had skipped the one power that provided the most defense you could get, Rock Armor. S/L damage is the most common type in the game, so S/L defense will provide a good amount of protection. That's why I thought it was useful to re-do your build with Rock Armor included. I also replaced Stealth and Invis and added Maneuvers to cap the defense without using a power that suppresses.

There are a few other changes, including a little more accuracy in some of your powers.

You will still have problems of getting mezzed, so you may want to consider Clarion for the Destiny power.

Your original build looks a lot like my build. I love this guy. Capped HP (1606) with perma Earth's Embrace, 2-proc'd creepers that get fulcrum shifted and benefit from Reactive (and recharge fast enough to have 2 out), and capped S/L defense (up to 50% now with the alpha slot bonus - Nerve, I believe). I added T4 Reactive, T3 Clarion, and other incarnatey goodness (T3 pyronic). Fly Trap is slotted for utility -- buff the little bugger up and let him go. Even strangler has reasonable damage.

Generally I am running in big groups and chaining Roots, Fissure with Seismic thrown in. Things die fast. Lots of sb and FS and siphon speed.

FYI on male HUGE models, if you crank up the sliders, you hardly see the Rock Armor at all -- just little pieces of it.

Like Local Man said, with stealth in Super Speed, you run in, throw Seeds, and then profit.

Hello all,

Just wondering, why Level 50: Nerve Radial Paragon for Alpha?
I was also suggested Spiritual for perma-creepers. I have no idea what to get for any of my incarnate slots, oh dear (although I'm mostly concerned about Alpha and Interface at the moment) (but advice on the others would be good)

I drew this for my friend Ninja Earl. I aspire to be a concept artist.

Nerve is appealing because it can enhance Accuracy, Hold, Defense and Confuse. Accuracy is badly needed by any Kinetics character, especially if you want to fight higher level foes. Hold is obvious. Defense: Even if you are softcapped to S/L, this helps with all your other kinds of Defense.
And, of course, the softcap is higher for the Incarnate Trials. Confuse is pretty obvious.

A Plant/Kin isn't as desparate for Recharge as other builds since it has Siphon Speed. You can also get Recharge from slotting bonuses.

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)
