Broadsword/Electric vs. Katana/Electric
Katana is a little bit better, but if you want broadsword for the concept, you should just go with that.

Titan Weapons/Electric!
If you want one of the two sets you named, Broadsword is not so much worse that you can't enjoy it.
The difference between Broadsword and Katana isn't quite as big as it seems. Broadsword's animations make it feel slower. Broadsword, on average, deals more damage on each hit than Katana. It's animations are slower though, and it costs more endurance. But really, the endurance shouldn't be a problem with /Electric and you can get pretty good DPS if you have insane amounts of recharge.
Of course, you could wait for Titan Weapons. That would be a unique experience compared to Broadsword and Katana. The disadvantage to that though, IIRC, is that Titan Weapons will give you less Defense than Parry or Divine Avalanche. Not a big deal, but it may factor into your decision.

BS vs Katana really is a close comparison, unless you go to a mega recharge build. Personal experience: Once you make an insane recharge build for katana, you will never enjoy broadsword gain.
but that's me. A lot of people enjoy the crunch of broadsword over the flashy katana. I would say take what fits your concept better because that is like half of enjoying a character anyway.

Honestly, the reason I want Broadsword is because I like the customization options better, but that feels like a silly reason, and having played a Katana scrapper before it definitely makes Broadsword feel slow as all get out.
I guess I just want an outside opinion. |
Having said that, both katana & broadsword are fairly evenly matched. You can talk to the cows come home about it, but the bottom line is that katana hits faster, but broadsword hits harder. I've played both, and I personally prefer broadsword for looks & feel. Your mileage may vary.

Whether you choose broadsword or katana, I wouldn't recommend electric as a secondary. It's certainly workable, and would be a strong character, but it's not necessarily your best option. One thing to look at is a secondary that will complement the defense buff you'll get from Parry.

I have to disagree there. You get a lot more mitigation out of adding Parry onto a resistance or regeneration based secondary than onto a defense one. You can easily get parry to softcap your non-defense character to lethal/melee with two applications, and with some more investment you can bring it down to one application. /Electric also has a damage aura that should make up the dps lost by using Divine Avalanche/parry more in your chain.
