F2P: Too Restricting?

A couple of people and I were discussing the Free Players and the overall outcome that we see happening.

Although the 'Help' channel is globally open to all and not moderated to a certain degree, where is the fine line when it becomes a 'looking for teams, help, etc.' channel to a 'let's talk about ponies or get into pointless arguments' channel?

I know, Sepultura talking about regulating a channel 'A HA HA HA', but fo-rizzle yo, why would a VIP such as myself be willing to help someone if I cannot stand the useless chatter in a channel I don't 'have' to use? Yes, I don't 'have' to use it, but then the other VIP's don't have to 'use' it as well (so on and so forth) and you lose half of the experience these new players need already.

Think about it, you have about what? 2500 globals in one channel? A channel that everyone and their mother can see and use? A lot of issues are going to be involved with the grand size of that number of people on one given channel.

So why not give F2P at least two channel slots? (Or can even sell it to them) That way these 'veteran' players may efficiently help out the newer people (I don't know about you, but if a player doesn't even know what sprint does, there's a big problem). And maybe, I don't know, it may actually give them a reason to pay for the game and unlock even more features for them to mess around with. Also, granted, I am from Champion, we use a lot of global channels to get things done (not sure how the other servers work or if the same problem arises).

Oh, but they can get rights at Tier Four Sep! But why would I pay $120 when I am not getting the help that I need? Honestly, all being my personal opinion, I would be better off paying the $15 a month to have everything unlocked for me than to pay that certain amount just for channels. Oh, but they can just pay the fifteen Sep! But why would I pay money if I am not getting the results that I want from an 'ONLINE MMO' where the community is incorporated in everything?

Tells being 'taken away' I can understand, who wants spam? (And you know what I am talking about)

Limit them to two channels per account and take away their ability to become moderators/ maybe a command to remove all free to play players who have been inactive for 14+ days.

Key Points:

  • Funneling of the new player-base into one channel and cutting them off from the rest.
  • Loss of access to the rest of the player-base who use channels to function.
  • A great divide between 'noobs' and 'vets' with this system.
  • Spam (off-topic chatter washing away a 'help' request)

If a free player spent $45 (the price of a game), they get 4 Paragon Reward Tokens (1 token with 1st purchase, 3 tokens for $45). That is enough to get them global channel access. I don't know where you are coming up with $120, but the number isn't based in any reality.

Exactly.

You also don't seem to understand that while a Tier 9 Premium player can have moderator status, they can't use that status to do anything except invite to the channel.

Ie. Asking them to pony up the money to unlock the demo.

If a player can pay $5 and spam up to 2,500 accounts across all the servers, what is the point of locking access in the first place?

I don't see $45 as a "great divide".

And yet you are requesting more channels be subjected to that same spam.

Well of course this is going to have its faults, just like everything else in this game. However, Moderators of channels may kick people out (or has that changed in the last two minutes) if spam was to be brought up.

And excuse my math, there is a reason why I have yet to become that Premier Rocket Scientist.

The system as it is, is a good one. It isn't too expensive for those wanting to talk on the global channels, while imposing a barrier to spammers.

If you want to blame anyone for this, blame the spammers and the players that buy from them. As it stands, new players get far more of an extended trial than I did when I joined: I got two weeks to try the game, not an unlimited time that could exceed years.

Instead make 2 new server wide channel, LFG and Whatever-we-name-it general discussion so that help can be help and the 2 other main use of the actual help channel get their own channel.

There are usually two sides to every argument but no end.

Everything placed above this line is always IMHO, YMMV and quite certainly not to be taken too seriously....

F2P accounts can:

Talk in /local
Talk in /help (server wide)
Talk in /friends (server wide)
Talk to teammates on /team
and reply to tells by using /r.

I do think it would be nice if they could talk to people that they had on their /global friends list.
