Reviewing Branforth the Seer's predictions

In November 2009, the devs "opened the Omega Team's time capsule". One of the items revealed was a list of predictions by Branforth the Seer.

http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Branforth_the_Seer

At the time, players speculated about their meaning.

Going Rogue had just been announced that spring. So, now that some time has passed, have any of the predictions become clearer with time.

Quote:
1. I often dream of things unbidden, secrets reveal'd and secrets hidden, Future, past, or not to be, I cannot say with certainty, But in case I won't return, these visions from my letter learn, And so before Omega leaves... I here entrust you with these dreams.

2. The glor'ous monarch will defend, his homeland to the bitter end, An army built to soothe all doubts, but ripples show in upstart bouts, Make you choice: red blue or gray, choose who to spurn and who obey, You'd like to think there's no price dear, but the real world is not so clear.

3. I saw a mirror torn apart, thousand-spiraling work of art, Behind a veil was once a fool, now its creation is its tool, Suffered from a mighty fall, seeks again to consume all, To face it our heroes prep, to win just watch that first step.

4. A peaceful race comes from afar, a living message in a jar, Find they cannot grow any more, into new flesh they are reborn, Silence breaks by the gods thunder, coexistence cast asunder, Now just one culture slow to change, not evil pure but surely strange.

5. Bloated life which has not a peer, gobbles all that mankind holds dear, The hive will grow to rise and fall, all will battle the monster tall, Across the way a mirror flow'r, has no such foes slow its devour, Not placated with scraps to eat, it's rage shall spark leader's retreat.

6. A thousand men with javelin, fight to compound their master's sin, Darkly corrupt by twilight gaze, a secret deal to end our days. Hero, villain, that time forgot, what do they know that we do not? Side-by-side both sides excel, fighting for time-warped parallel.

7. Time's river's course is left to run, till shattered by the million suns, Eternal gear comes back to warn, all must beware the coming storm, From ice and flame and tests of will, forgotten deeds one can fulfill, Has he made strong by accident, those whose acts will despair prevent?

8. No purse to snatch or kid to nab, is fashioned by a novel lab, But legends writ and lore create, as cohorts play and strangers rate, Easy to praise; the virtues plain, of fighting just to entertain, Endless time spent in sirens dens, yet who will save real citizens?

9. The iron turns into crystal, their doomsday shall be missed til, When a pair of fives arrives, power flows and power drives, The spinning rod lives again, then destroyed in evil's den, Mere prelude to what bright hell, comes from drinking of the well.

10. Man kills brother; sets into motion, a hundred lifetimes of commotion, Meticulous manipulation, attempts to take this very nation, Within mirrors glow he finds a pawn, his trick forces them to take us on, We shall fall for his games no longer, that which challenges makes us stronger.

11. The web is formed in careful craft, since fatal rescue on a raft, Wraith- beast- hulk- thief- prepare for war, the mastermind will hide no more, Let loose the tide of villain mix, heroes will gain their own new tricks, And in the end; a world fini, unless the one stops destiny.

12. Create new thing which heals or harms, accelerate the race of arms, A million more to buy and trade, the inventors must all be paid, A flood of brains rain in the town, but evil lurks to bring all down, The helmed one strikes with draining web, the war comes to a crucial head.

13. You may have seen all that I say, or await it another day, Of many things I have not dreamt, events the gods have not yet sent, And do forgive this awful curse, the fates decree I write in verse, Wish I were there to interpret, but battle calls and must be met.

My thoughts:
I'm generally in agreement with the wiki on the meanings, except for #9.

I believe the 'pair of fives' are the ten Incarnate slots, as is the reference to drinking from the Well. I have no clue what the iron turning to crystal or the 'spinning rod' are yet. Possibly something related to the 'Who Will Die?' arc?

I'll take a stab at this, shouldn't be too hard....

1: Isn't really a prediction, it's the opening for them.

2: Praetoria

3: I've got some ideas, but I think I'll sleep on them first.

4: Kheldians

5: Rularuu and the Shadow Shard

6: Cimerora

7: Nemesis/Mender Silos and Ouroboros

8: Architect Entertainment (and even a grim prediction of the bAEbies)

9: Very cryptic, but definite alludes to the 10 incarnate slots and drinking of the well.

10: Nemesis, pretty much saying the whole Rikti thing too

11: Arachnos, Lord Recluse, and his Lts Ghost Widow, Capt Mako, Black Scorpion, and Scirocco, also mentions how heroes will be able to access villain sets

12: Invention system, WW/BM, and Statesman Task Force

13:Just an ending

To right the countless wrongs of our day, we shine the light of true redemption, that this place may become as paradise. What a wonderful world such would be....

I'm sorry what was that, I couldn't hear you over my TRAGIC PAST!!

I think 3 is Rularuu and 5 is Hamidon.

I'm not going go into discussion of the other points, but #5 is clearly Hamidon as it describes both the Hamidon Raid system as well as the Underground Trial.

I googled 'spinning rod' and all I came up with was hits about fishing.

So it seems clear to me that Canada Joe will have a big involvement with the Incarnate system at some point.

Reading number 4 a few times makes me wonder if it's about Kheldians after all. The beginning makes sense for them, but the end does not. Because there are still Nictus and Peacebringers, so they're not "just one culture slow to change." And I'd say that the Nictus are pretty "evil pure". I mean, they try to twist and corrupt a lot of stuff throughout history, and seem to be bent on destruction.

I almost wonder if it has to do more with the Shivans, since we know very little about their actual motives. "Silence breaks by the gods thunder" also doesn't seem to have much to do with the Kheldians, but maybe I'm wrong there. Seems to me to predict more about the meteors crashing to earth.

The "Iron turns into crystal" might refer to the Shivan meteroites, which would fit in with the doomsday bit.

Thinking about it, alot of it could even be about The Rikti.

I wonder if number nine is referencing Reichsman. You free him: "Iron turns to crystal." Prelude to Incarnate abilities: "When a pair of fives arrives, power flows and power drives." 5th Column is the reference to the spinning rod in some sort of roundabout way?

The Rikti are one culture, on their Earth at least. They have a unified psionic society, and the point of the RWZ content is to show they were ticked into fighting us and they aren't evil, but their way of life is strange to us.

The beginning does make sense for Kheldians.

Maybe the 'coexistence cast asunder' is humans coexistence with the Kheldians.

One possibility:

This is about the Kheldians on the Rikti home world. At one point they coexisted with the humans there. We know in the past of Primal Earth there were Khelds from the Cimerora content. We know the Rikti were first mutated by an alien race around 2000 BC according to the wiki. Maybe it was the Kheldians? Then something happened and they were driven from Earth. The Rikti "killed their gods" according to other lore and we know the Cimerorans sure view the fuzzies as 'Dark Gods'.

Maybe Cimerora is the point of divergence between our Earth and Rikti Earth.

I thought the consensus back then was that #9 was reference to the events of Issue 15, specifically the return of the 5th Column.

The iron turns into crystal - Reichsman imprisoned in suspended animation

their doomsday shall be missed - the triumph of the 5th delayed owing to their defeat

When a pair of fives arrives - the 5th Column of Primal Earth teaming up with the 5th Column of the Axis America dimension

The spinning rod lives again, then destroyed in evil's den - the Column is the 'rod', and it was destroyed in their own headquarters in Striga Isle (see the Mender Lazarus arc)

Mere prelude to what bright hell, comes from drinking of the well - the freed Reichsman himself, who got his powers from the Well of the Furies
