On Buying Broken Content from the Paragon Store
...There is now no way in HELL that I'll ever purchase one of these again without careful preview work.

Haha, just teasing!
Yeah, honestly, I understand. I'm being careful (and even cheap, maybe), because I don't want to say "Sure, just toss it out there and I'll buy it no matter what".
The new thing each week is a nice idea and all... But I want to see a standard of quality.
Honestly, I'm a little disappointed that the base banners have been bugged since the issue's launch.
Bugs do happen and sometimes they take a while to fix (sometimes because they're particularly pesky, other times because they're lower priority), but... We can still voice a bit of disappointment when they do.
and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan
The quickly growing bugs thread on the individual new Halloween costumes detracts somewhat from the fun, but the package deal still looks like a good overall investment. Such are the pros and cons of individual purchases vs. "booster packs". I'll consider buying the whole set as an investment since it's a solid overall concept, but I'd be very disappointed if there were only a few pieces I wanted that turned out to be bugged.
Here's hoping the Paragon art department will pull out the stops to fix the broken pieces in time for Halloween. There will be a lot of disappointed thematic costume-wearers if they can't.
i think ive bought pretty much everything they offered regardless lol, i just like having the options, if its not working 100% wont bother me because i would have to find a use for the piece first, and currently the only piece im interested in is the brain in a jar, i could almost see myself replacing my mains head with the brain in a jar lol
I used my free points so its no biggie but had I actually purchased points I would have been annoyed. Buggy pieces, uneven skintones, but we finally got our brain jar!
How did these guys make it past even Internal testing? |
Clearly, the actual "testing" gets done by US on the live servers.
As an applications programmer (for more than 3 decades), I am often astounded
with their releases... Not that there are bugs, mind you, because in any complex
application, there will *always* be some.
No, I'm astounded by the *types* of bugs that end up in live - like the Server
Box you couldn't scroll, or the text boxes that don't work right, or the switches
that get lost when you zone, or the market that used to pay you for only one of
a 10 stack, or the Mechbots that would blow up 10 times in a row when defeated,
or the backwards animations on Nemmie Staff awhile ago.
Those are *NOT* bugs that relate to a test server vs a live server (except, possibly,
the last one if it is table driven)- they are bugs where the code was never tested...
In short, code that should never have been committed to the build repository
in that state to begin with...
I'm thankful these devs write games, and not control systems for critical hardware,
or financial software ... you know, stuff that *needs* to be right - the results
would be disastrous otherwise...
In a game, they're mostly just annoying...

PS> If there's a silver lining here, the fact that much of the newer stuff requires
payment should at least help ensure a faster correction cycle (I've totally given
up on their ability to actually test anything beforehand though).
I've been rich, and I've been poor. Rich is definitely better.
Light is faster than sound - that's why some people look smart until they speak.
For every seller who leaves the market dirty stinkin' rich,
there's a buyer who leaves the market dirty stinkin' IOed. - Obitus.
Well, the good thing is that the set hasn't been "in the wild" very long, so it'll probably get fixed.
Unlike other costume pieces that have been out since February and they never even intend to fix the acknowledged bugs in them.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
I told myself after the Fireman's Hat that I would PREVIEW new items in the character creator before I bought them.
The, lo and behold, if it isn't the new Halloween Pack! Happy day. Oh, and it's going to be only on sale during the event. I might as well. Even if there's a few nits to pick, it's not going to be horrible. Right? Even the bugs with the fireman's hat don't quite make it unwearable.
Okay, yeah, I'm pretty dumb for thinking that there wasn't any room for failure on this one when I SHOULD have known better.
There are a few obnoxious bugs with this pack, what what stands out to me is a couple bugs that make the costume pieces simply unwearable. The Frilled Ascot appears BEHIND the head rather than in front of the neck and below it. The Bat broach hovers a hand-width off of the chest so that people even moderately close to you can see that it's just floating there.
How did these guys make it past even Internal testing? I mean, surely one of the artists glanced at the pieces and said 'Whoa! We need to check the origins on those before they go live!"
The worst part is that by buying the set based on the tiny pictures in the icons rather than making sure that each and every piece worked in Icon, I have set a precident. It's a strong reinforcement for NCSoft to slap crap together and call it a costume set.
I apologize to the other players who've I've screwed, even if only in a tiny way.
Artists... PLEASE take a few minutes to QA this stuff before it goes live!
Because you didn't, this will no doubt be put in the bug queue behind several other more serious issues and not fixed until well after the event is over.
Me? I've been burned twice now. No more spur purchase from me. Marketing folks: You had your chance to have a loyal Apple-style fanboy who'd shell out money for anything you trotted out the door. There is now no way in HELL that I'll ever purchase one of these again without careful preview work.
