Titan Site down?

Howdy,

Very old player here, having returned from Year One. I have little in common with modern COH, it's changed so much, and I've forgotten more than I remembered.

I've been poking at some guides to get me back in the game, and I see this Mid's Build Program (which didn't exist back then). Sadly the host site (Titan) seems down.

Just curious if anybody knows anything? Or perhaps the owners aren't aware?

Thanks!

Just checked, yes it is down right now.

I have little doubt it will be back up an running soon.

Activity logs from the host's provider show high levels of swap I/O that result in bringing site services to a standstill. It seems to start and stop on half-hours, but can last for several times that. We're not sure what's causing it, which means we're not sure what we can do about it. Hopefully it's not someone else's site running on the same VM server that's causing the problem. I would think they'd have throttles in place for that, and the swapping would surely be characteristic of that site rather than ours. But if it's us, then available system memory is getting low, and that could get sticky.

I unfortunately can't present an estimated time for the problem to be corrected, so for the next couple of days we may have to deal with periods of unexpected downtime. Titan Network appreciates your patience while we scratch our heads, mumbling "What the heck?" to ourselves under our breaths.

This happening has made me realise just how dependant I have become on the wiki in my short time here, now I'm going to have to annoy the help channel with my newbie questions XD

Okay, it's back up for now. We had runaway swap usage, so it's definitely looking like a memory issue.

Definitely a memory issue. The page file was being thrashed, causing everything to slow down. As things slowed down, the page file thrashed more, causing things to go even slower. Eventually, it would have cleared as people stopped accessing the site, but it could have taken a long while. When this happens, we kill services to stop whatever it's trying to do at the time and let everything clear out.

I've gotta admit, when I started the Paragon Wiki a long time ago, I never dreamed that I'd be hosting the whole Titan Network on a server. And I really never dreamed that we'd be blowing the doors off 2 GB of dedicated RAM. I'm not complaining, mind you, I think this is very cool. We've tried a corrective action to make things run better, and given that the next step up is hella expensive, we're also discussing alternate hosting possibilities in case we're simply at the end of our resources on the current one. Hopefully we'll be able to squeeze a little more out of our existing server, though.

Edit: Here's the problem in a nice graph:

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

Thanks for the replies folks. The Titan site was indeed up when I checked back later, and I downloaded the character builder.

Wish me luck!

I used it for a while in at different forum before coming to here. Luckily, I had already transitioned to my current handle.

Thanks for letting me know, seems like it's a routing issue with my ISP then as I can connect fine via a proxy.
