I hate hatehatehate...

.... .... hate snow and winter and snow and cold and ice and dark and snow. Did I say I really hate winter? And skiis. Argh those torturetools. I got enough of those wooden devils tools of horror at school and army. I never touch them anymore. Never! Burn them all. Prepare for half of year of pitch black darkness without any colours, smells, sun and feelings that gloomy when volwes are hanging our butts and icy needles beats our faces. You know there is a reason why we dont like to talk anybody. I think I'm going to buy some beer and hibernate until the spring... Oh Santa... You know Santa actually lives in Finland. Not in north pole.

But he's not very nice old man.

So I say two weeks after this day we get first snow here

Oh happyness.

We need only some turpentine, two bananas and 50 000 V of tension and Santa will be good as new

I love winter.

Nature has bogged off south and taken all my hayfever symptoms with it.

I can smell and taste again, my eyes arnt itchy.

The temperature is just right, and work even gets more fun!

Mind, this is in the UK, not Finland, so maybe its a bit harsher out there!

When I was kid we dug tunnels in huge pile of snow. It was like big labyrinth crossing tunnels and caves in many layers. That was very exciting. Like a strange white and gloomy world of tunnels. We spend hours just digging more tunnels. I noticed that snow kills all voices. There was no echo at all.

Winter is very late at this year. Only few centimeters of snow and windy and slippery like... I don't know. Be careful there. When I was kid a half of meter of snow was normal at christmas time.

I saw that santa movie "Rare exports" at christmas. It was great fun English translation is not very good. Translators tried to make it like a normal christmas story but the movie itself is more like slightly horror black humor. There is (non sexual) ugly nudity and lot of cursing and blood.

Before you see that you should to know about some facts of Finland:

-Reindeers are just a normal meat cattle. Not any mysterious flying unicorns. Those people are reindeer herders and they use snowmobiles and helicopters in that work.
-There is thousands of reindeers running as free in Lapland but they all have real owners.
-word "erotus" means happening when reindeer herders takes them in to corrals and sell them. Reindeer herding is thousands of years old way to live. I think probably just after the ice age.
-Mountain Korvatunturi (Earmountain) is in Russian side of border. It lost them after the war but it's traditional "the real home of Santa". North pole is just some confusion.
-In finnish tradition Santas helpers looks more like redcaps than elfs.
-Cursing (swearing) is very common here and there is lot of using "power words" in the movie but we hate beeping. They are mostly not translated in english and there is not equivalent for most powerful word. It's the oldest ancient P- word
-Nudity is not taboo so it not affect of any age limits here.
-We hate dubbing. Dubbing is only for children movies.
-Movie is actually filmed in Norway because landscapes are more interesting there.
-It's not nice movie It tells the "truth" like Lovecraft does.
-Santa's name in finnish directly translates as "christmas buck (goat)" and cames from pagan ages and there was more scary Santa's ancestors long time ago. We keeped many pagan age word in every day life after the forced to christianity in middle ages. Mostly names of pagan gods.

Have a nice movie. See you later.

edit. This preproduct clip is actually filmed close at my home. I recognise that small harbour Santa does not tolerate of smoking, alcohol or bad words.

Snow snow snow

Now we have good snowball quality snow here Hopefully no need empty shampagne bottles for fireworks on the new year.

(if I said I hate snow... I lied )

edit. I can send you some Damz

edit2. Close at here is one "city" where they build real snowcastle every year. There is real restaurant and hotel in there. Restaurant tables are made of ice blocks and you can actually sleep in hotel rooms made of snow... never visited there. It's too close and too expencive

Not only has it been warm, it's also been raining a lot. Over here in the Netherlands that means problems with water. Especially with the gale force winds we've had, it's been hard to pump excess water out to sea because water in the North Sea gets pushed up against the shore. (remember, we live at or below sea (threat) level).

The dikes are holding, but several places still have flooded from the heavy rain, mostly unoccupied low lying agricultural lands, where the government directs excess water in scenarios such as this.

But everything is very wet and there are large puddles of water everywhere, including about 5-6 cm of water in my new garden of the house I bought last summer. I call it my "swimming pool".

2011 was the warmest year ever in Belgium. Warmest new years eve too, with 11°C at 5 am around here. The top 5 warmest years ever were in the past 8 years.

I hope the snow stays away. Driving 70 km each way, every day through that mess to get too work is not fun.

Strange light phenomena detected close to the horizon today. It was bright orange and round. I heard that some people call it the Sun. Nice to get it back
