Opinion on Virtual Celebrities
Lara Croft is currently out of the spotlight ("You used to be big." "I AM BIG. It's the processors that got small.")
Have a feeling SIRI will be the next big celeb if ever she gets an animated, Cortana-style avatar.

Siri also has a sense of humour (Q:"What is the meaning of life?" Siri:"42", Q:"Will you marry me?" "Sorry, marriage is not covered in my EULA. Would you like me to recommend a dating service?")
Mind you, still wondering if she's going to get jealous if you ask her to handle too many messages from other AIs or girlfriends... "Have you been playing with that GlaDOS again? Psycho hussy. She'll wind up killing you one of these days.."
Is it time for the dance of joy yet?
Doesn't count until there's an AI behind the CGI. Another decade or two away until we get Sharon Apple and another decade before she's able to move on her own (not just an avatar robot body).

I imagine that in 5 years, most of the celebrities will be virtual.

As Father Xmas implied once the Technological Singularity approaches (some experts think that'll happen in as soon as 20 or 30 years) there will be legitimate AI at the heart of "actual" virtual personalities. What exists today are just semi-AI baby steps towards that goal.

Virtual celebrities don't have any of the problems that are caused by the celebrity lifestyle. Don't have to worry about inappropriate videos of them making it to the public unless that is the direction their career is taking. Don't get into car accidents. Don't need to be paid outrageous wages. Also, they can do things that are impossible for regular celebrities.
The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.
I think 'Lady Gaga' is pretty close... (tongue-in-cheek)
Make a man a fire and keep him warm for the day, SET a man on fire and keep him warm for the rest of his life.

Was actually fairly convinced that most Simon Cowell products are replicants. Hence the guaranteed 5-year career lifespan.
Of course, it was Disney that perfected the technique first... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZgXg_7kVI8

Oh yeah. Disney has the teen idol thing down pat. Too bad most of them turn into train wrecks when they hit adulthood.

They probably exist already at deviantArt.

What is your opinion on virtual celebrities? Such as avatars like Ananova and characters of Vocaloid. Most popular music has no soul so does it really matter if the singers have no soul either?
My opinion is that it does not matter if a celebrity is virtual or real. As long as it brings enjoyment to the fan, then it does not matter. Also virtual celebrities don't have the problem of self-destruction that plague so many celebrities. I imagine that in 5 years, most of the celebrities will be virtual.
