Fiery Aura for normal content?

Hello folks,
I'm thinking of building an StJ/Fiery Aura character (concept) and everything I have ever read about Fiery Aura suggests it's best on a Brute, so here I am.
That said, I have never played a purely Resist based armor set beyond about level 30 before, so I'm not really sure what to build for. I would like to end up with a heavy damage dealer that retains enough survivability to actually deal that damage. Defense softcapping with high recharge is usually what I aim for, but it seems absurdly difficult, if not impossible, to softcap this combo.

My current build is floating at about 41% S/L def (34% melee), with negligible values everywhere else (12-16%), and about 52% S/L resist, 35% E/N, 90% F (of course), and 21% cold. I'm a bit concerned with those numbers and really wish I could figure out how to at least cap S/L defense, as I know how big of a difference that last 5% makes.
I'm also only hitting 113.8% global recharge with Hasten active, putting it at 10 seconds of downtime with Spiritual Core, and seeing Healing Flames hit a 13 second recharge, 814 HP heal.

Any improvements anyone could suggest would come much appreciated. The build is aimed at normal and incarnate content, and I mostly team but prefer to still be capable of soloing most enemy groups on x8. I don't care much about farming ability for this particular character, and would use an alternate build if I were going to bother.

To do this on FA, without making large sacrifices [actually it may be the only way, but I haven't tried all possible methods], you will need a Glad's 3%. I highly recommend it.

I know it can break the bank, but I have my SS/FA at 45% S/L and ~31% E/N and it performs very nicely. If you aren't willing to pay for the Glad's, I would personally stick with 32.5%, gain some e/n and recharge with the lost S/L and get used to carrying lucks.

some thoughts on your build-

You're going to be sucking wind in a hurry...
Oblits are a poor choice for blazing aura, due to the fact that it's a high-cost toggle, and the set has only 18% endredux. It's a good set for burn, thanks to burn's low end cost.
FA is another high cost toggle- do you plan on running this or is it just a set mule? Might consider switching to tactics
Gaussian's are great for positional builds, a less effective use of slots for a build focusing on typed defense. Maybe 2 rectified reticles (and some end redux if you're planning on running the power).
If you're not planning on running FA, accuracy is pretty low in several of your attacks, I'd use the slots gained from dropping the gaussian's set to shore these up.
I'd move at least 1 slot from superior conditioning to stamina.
There are very few situations in which mag8 kb protection is more useful than mag4. The most common kb attacks are mag3 or mag10. Either build to 12, or 4. (There are also a few situations in game for which mag12 isn't even enuff -eff you, mary mac- but they're so rare and so extreme that they're not really worth building for)

Hmmm.

I am sorry to say it, but everything you have read is wrong.

Fiery aura is best on a tank. This has been true since launch, and is more true now than ever.

Brute fiery aura has gotten a lot (ridiculous, overblown, silly amount) of attention lately, due to the way AE could be exploited for brutes.

Now that AE has been (rightly) fixed to bring that more into parity, all the SS/fire brutes are slowly realizing that fiery armor is DAMN SQUISHY with scrapper-level numbers.

Roll a fire tank.

Old-School, yo!

I soloed ITF on x8 with lucks to fill the gap with 32.5% defense. It was respectable.

My new build with the 45% s/l is 50% faster, though. I solo MOed that on x8 with FA so I'd say the survivability is good enough, but I am likely dropping the large groups far faster on a SS/FA. I can't say exactly how it would translate into a StJ/FA.

Healing flames is probably the best self heal in the game. 10-11 second cooldown for 850 hp is very nice.

I should note as the posted above me said, FA is already somewhat of an end hog, and StJ I hear also is rough on the blue bar. Consume is nice, but you're either going to have to slot for end reduction in your attacks or rely on ageless (I chose this method).

Fire armor is perfectly survivable in normal content with a Brute, provided you get the suggested slot bonuses. I would recommend slotting Consume for recharge and accuracy (mostly recharge), instead of putting in a set.

I've attempted to make some changes in the vein of the suggestions here, but I don't feel like I've made a lot of progress yet.

Looking over my build I'm struggling to see where I can pick up E/N defense without dropping below 32.5% S/L or losing buckets of recharge, for example.

I'm not really satisfied with what I've currently got yet, but I'll post it anyway, hopefully I can get some more tips to improving this thing.

This is a barrier/cardiac reliant build I am thinking about if we ever get those extra 3 slots they talked about (I'm a little too much in love with damage to do this one right now). This one will soft cap E/N with 1 purple while maintaining S/L, but only with barrier. The plus side is, with cardiac and barrier running it sits at 66.1% S/L resist and 46.5% E/N resist, which is quite a large survivability gain. (I built this after failing on nictused rommy on +4x8, but I think I could do it with my first build with proper tactics... just haven't had time to try again).

Yes, both builds are extremely expensive. The purple sets are an easy place to save some cash, though.

I tweaked it a little, but... still not good lol. End recovery is pretty bad, defense is not great, gave up some recharge... hehehe. Help!

edit to add: are you set on FA? I swapped it for tactics (not in the build above), dropped an endredux from it and put a kismet +6% in CJ. Accuracy and recovery both improve.

Also, SS is cheating. rage lets you get away with a lot less accuracy...
