Burn Questions

1) Does it need Accuracy?

2) When slotted with a proc assuming each "tick" has its own accuracy check, is only the first tick checked for the chance of a proc? Meaning if the first tick misses, can one of the other ticks trigger a proc?

3) Is the proc only one per burn? Does each enemy receive their own proc chance or does it do one roll?

4) Is it good as part of a single target DPS chain rotation?

My understanding is that slotted accuracy will help with the initial hit of the power, but will not help the pseudo pet it spawns.

I'd expect the initial hit to roll on the proc, then the pseudo pet to roll on its first tic once it spawns. Since it lasts 10 seconds I don't know if you'd get a second proc roll just as it expires or not.

It should be like any AoE and roll the proc chance independently against each enemy.

Hmm can you explain this? The first tick requires an accuracy check?

Edit: Hmm I haven't used it since issue 7, it now has a big damage front loaded attack? What is the new damage? The in game description just says it does 13 ticks...

If you haven't used it since i7, but did use it back then it's important if you haven't heard, to hear that it was changed . The Mag50 Afraid has been removed, the enemies will now stand in the patch and Burn to death properly . Since they no longer run immediately, that means it's damage is much more effective because they won't be leaving it's range. (Unlike Bonfire, where it's damage(without mez control) is irrelevant because they dont stand there for the duration).

Does that imply that the patch/rain/toggle chance-to-fire timer for procs is 10seconds? I've been using a lot of procs on a recent toon and I can't remember(Chance for +Rech going into Hurricane for example).

I'm going to contest this by saying if you had some way to mitigate the afraid effect of old Burn (AoE immob or knockdown) the old Burn was miles ahead of the new Burn in terms of damage.

Yes, guardian. Any proc or 120 in an ongoing power such as a rain or toggle checks once every ten seconds.

Note Force Feedback's proc also has a self-suppression thing going, so it cannot stack.

I can't speak for the other ATs, but for a fire tank, when you use burn, there is an initial accuracy check. Say you have 5 goons around your toon, and you cast burn. There seems to be (to me anyway) an accuracy check for each one of the bad guys around you. It may miss on one, and hit the other four. But the subsequent ticks don't seem to miss.

The only time I've ever noticed the subsequent ticks missing has been when I was substantially debuffed (i.e. 6 or 7 Nerva Spectral Demon Lords ) or when I was tackling +4 level bad guys or higher.

In practical terms, I do not slot burn for accuracy. The recharge is fast enough so that when I'm done with the attack chain, it's recharged and I mash it again.

Whether or not to put a proc in burn -- well, the thought never occurred to me. I'd have to have some slots to "use up" to put something that is only gonna work 1 in 10 times, unless it's in a passive power like health or stamina.

When I use burn, I want to burn, not try to slow recharge or hope for a chance of build up. This is just me - I'm not right or wrong, it's just my opinion.

As for being valid for a part of single target attack chain, I still say yes. The endurance it uses is so comparatively small, and it's recharge is fast enough that aside from scorch, it's simply the best choice for me. Combustion is close, but the animation time takes longer than I would like, particularly for one target.

In summary, get burn, slot it with three damages and three recharge IOs or use two and two and use the nifty enhancement boosters on the remaining 4 and save yourself two slots. Or use an IO set for bonuses. But definitely get it and slot it.
