Barnes & Nobles... seriously?!

Well, I mean you'd be crazy to live there. It's so hot and muggy. And there's only a couple of inches worth of snow in the winter, if it even snows at all.
That store doesn't exist in PA. I think it's only NJ, NY, and New England. And the South, but no one lives there.

Crazy I tell ya.

What state? If you want a Calvin and Hobbes collection, go to a commic book store. They are likely to have stuff that B&N themselves will not carry.
What would be an alternative in a State with, at most, small, poorly-lit and run used book stores now that Borders & Walden are gone? Sure, I can go to Wal-mart or K-mart and buy the latest Twilight book or browse through their self-help books, but if I want to go to a real store where I can find a Calvin & Hobbes collection or a WH40k book, I'm SOL.
They may not be a "true" monopoly, but they may act as an effective monopoly. |
If you want a WH40k book, go to a game store, again, you will be blown away by the amount of stuff they carry a B&N wont.
As for books, you can endure a few minutes in a store that does not have the most expensive lighting possible in the world.
Just because you rather go to a bigger brand store, with better light but less inventory in any given category, does not mean its a monopoly.

There are two comic book stores about an hour away (one way drive). I think there's a grand total of about 3 in the State.

Yes... those of us who have the (mis)fortune to live in more rural areas don't always have the choice... the nearest Barnes and Noble is a two-hour drive from where I'm at.
We don't have a local comics shop - again, that's a two-hour drive. We do have two gaming stores up here, but one's a brand-new one that caters mostly to a high-school age crowd and card gamers, and the other is a scary little shack that feels like it'll fall over in a serious wind.
It's a fair drive to even make it to a ferry that goes over to civilization - hour and a half one way.
Sometimes, I hate living up here.

I mean I'm sorry, but if you're selling new books, regardless of if you're an online or a brick and mortar store you're competing with Amazon.
