that time of year again
Well its the upgrade time of year. Currently I am using an EVGA MB x58 chipset with a 920 quad core 1366. Thinking about the p67 chipset and am wondering about its stability (I have seen many many mixed reviews). Anyone out there having issues with it and if so what MB are you using. Although I usually use asus stuff I am impressed with my current EVGA board and may go that route. Gigabyte MB's seem a popular choice but I have never used them. So just curious if some fellow COH players have run into many issues. I have been through newegg reviews but trust tomshardware more so. So just looking for some input for those that have gone the p67 1155chipset sandy route

However, depending on your motherboard's BIOS revision, you could always upgrade to a nice 6-core CPU and keep most of the components you already have.
I used to be a hardcore Asus guy. Until I had to deal with their customer support. Fecal is about the best word to describe it (that won't get forum-censored).
When the stuff from Asus works. It's fine. But if something isn't working, you're in for a world of pain and stupidity.
Honestly speaking if your running a 920 with x58 your way ahead of the curve compared to most CoX players. While switching over to 1155 SB is an upgrade, its a fairly minor one. Some might argue its a horizonatal one.
If you are feeling the itch to upgrade, I would be looking at other parts of your rig/setup. How good is your Monitor? At this point, I would go with "not enough info" for suggestiions. I suspect money might be better spent elsewhere.
Stick with the big Motherboard makers, Asus, Gigabyte, ASRock. There are a few others which are ok like MSI and Biostar. You will get into trouble when you start buying the really cheap MBs from ECS where places like Frys literally give them away. RMA support is going to be a pain from just about everywhere so buy from newegg or someplace that has good customer support so you don't have to deal with the Motherboard company. Most often on motherboards, you get what you pay for.
I have not bought an EVGA motherboard, but I never had any issues with their RMA the one time I had to deal with them.

Well the 2nd gen 1155 chips are at least 10% faster than the old 1366 CPUs at the same clock speed. Add in the difference between CPU clock speeds, the ease of overclocking with the 2nd gen 1155 Vs the ole 1366 i7s then it's more than just a horizontal upgrade.
Some people hate MSI with a passion, some dis Gigabyte because they haven't adopted the new UEFI BIOS standard and some poo-poo ASRock as the Chevy to Asus's Cadillac. I don't think any of these brands are that much better or worse than another. Some only have a few models while others have nearly a dozen.
I've chosen ASRock in my two current builds for the price while having the feature set I'm looking for at each price point. If price wasn't an issue then Asus does have some interesting models from the point of view of added features.

Monitor is great....no problems the reason for the upgrade is simple. Some in my family are in need of a newer computer so with me rebuilding I can help them out by giving my current system to them. I figure I know what I want but was reaching out to see if any were having direct issues with p67's, z68's and so on.
Appreciate the feedback. Since this will just be for gaming and some daily web stuff. The rest of the system is pretty much nvidia based gpu, corsairor kkingston mem, basic optical drive. And am debating on ssd....but unsure yet. It was deciding on the MB chipset that was causing me some cognitive debate. But it looks like z68 may be the answer and I appreciate the feedback
