Character Anniversary

Just a couple suggestions regarding character anniversaries:

1. On the character list screen, I'd like to be able to see character creation date AND the issue number/name that character was created on. I have a rough idea of when i created most of my characters, but it would be nice to have a concrete date to look at.

2. I've seen they've added anniversary badges at the account level... however:
- I'd like character specific anniversary badges.
- Another NCSoft property actually sends Birthday presents to each character on their anniversary date. Something like a random orange recipe, costume piece, hero token, respec, etc. would be great.

IIRC we've been told by a Redname that character creation timestamps aren't saved in our character records. If that's true then even if they added them for new characters we'd never have that information for currently existing characters.

As far as character anniversaries go that would obviously hinge on what I just said about the creation timestamps. But as far as your idea for "character birthday badges" goes those would have made a lot more sense to me than the account based anniversaries. I've never liked the whole idea of in-game characters getting badges to celebrate the anniversary of a real world MMO. That just seems way too meta-gamey for me. Why would Captain Amazing, who fights crime in Paragon City, have any connection to game that exists in OUR world much less get badges for it?

So while we'll probably never get birthday badges I would have actually preferred them INSTEAD of account-based anniversary badges. *shrugs*

That's a crying shame about not storing the creation date. I know some dbs will store audit info for rows, but you have to explicitly turn it on.

I wonder if they keep timestamps on ANY data? If so, they could potentially extrapolate a create date ( or something very close ). For example, if they stored a timestamp on badges, you could get the earliest date.

Then, once you have a rough date for legacy data, you could add an actual creation timestamp for new characters.

They don't store it for badges, or they didn't used to anyway. When they added "Most Recent Badges", it only worked on badges you earned after the feature was activated. I believe the badges you had earned recently prior to the feature being activated, showed an Earned date of the day the feature was activated. So this feature would not work on characters created prior to Issue 13. (We also don't know if the timestamp data is maintained for badges earned now once they fall off the MRB list, although one assumes it is.)

I could have worded that less confusingly.

"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill

Um, he might could be visiting Paragon, but Captain Amazing fights crime in Champion City. Or did. Pretty ugly demise, ya ask me.

/The birthday idea, I'm down with, btw... but it's a shame they don't have the data for it. I'd *love* to see when my characters were made. Be nostalgic and such. Ah well.

August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.
This is houtex, aka Mike, signing off the forums. G'night all. - 10/26/2012
Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

Yeah I guess when I was quickly coming up with a hypothetical hero name for my post I unconsciously remembered Mystery Men. A funny movie, but not one I intended to reference here.

Not a bad idea about the gift thing. Guild Wars has something similar. On the characters "birth day" you get a free random pet.

I'm pretty sure they keep track of how long your character has played though. I say this because if you click on some of the pedestrian NPCs they tell you how much time you've spent on patrol. Maybe base it on time spent on a toon rather then its birthday?
