Alternate Travel Powers (That We'll Probably Never See)

So I love that new rocket board that's coming with I21. It got me thinking what other kinds of travel powers we might start seeing.

...I'll be honest, I couldn't think of any. But I came up with a few that I'm pretty sure we won't see:

Alternate Forms of Walk:

- Riding Mower: Their butts are grass and you're the lawnmower! Well, you *have* a lawnmower, at least. Note: there is a 1% chance with each activation that you will get the red version instead of the default green. This version increases the movement speed by 10%. 'Cause everyone knows stuff goes faster when you paint it red.

- Sneak: You hunch over and slowly inch along on your tippytoes. Occasionally your head darts to the side as if you heard something. This power does still lock out all of your other powers, but at the same time it grants you incredible stealth... enough to slip past Rikti Drones unnoticed. It comes with a catch though. There's a 0.01% chance with each tick that you step on a squeaky floorboard, at which point every mob within 100 yards immediately aggros on you. While all your powers are locked out. Hey, no-one said being a ninja was easy.

- Creepy Kid: You skip merrily down the street, holding a single red balloon. When you target a character or foe, no matter where they are in relation to you, your body stays still and only your head turns to look at them. *shudder*

Alternate Forms of Sprint:

- Segway: You climb aboard a heavily modified version of that infamous two-wheeled scooter, adapted to move at city traffic speeds and provide decent lift from small jump jets mounted on its undercarriage. Unfortunately there are no spiked hubcaps or rocket launchers on this model... yet.

- Freak Out: You weave back and forth as you run, flailing your arms in the air like a muppet and going "AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!". The idling animation alternates between running around in circles, and stopping to catch your breath.

- Weewee Dance: You hobble along with your knees pressed together, slightly bent over and holding your hands near your belt buckle. Somehow you can manage a brisk pace even like this, as the run speed is 30% faster than Sprint. (When you gotta go, you gotta go.) However there is one drawback... every time you come within range of a door you automatically move toward it, knock frantically and say "Are you gonna be done in there soon?" The idling animation for this one is hopping from foot to foot and saying "Sssss... ooooh... unnnhhh..."

Alternate Forms of Ninja Run:

- Parkour: You tumble and somersault about the place, hopping on top of everything in your path... fire escapes, stair railings, trash cans, passing cars, old ladies. There's a random chance of yelling out "Hardcore parkour!" with each jump.

- Cart Surfing: You climb inside a shopping cart that's been retrofitted with rocket boosters. 'Nuff said.

- Shriner Car: You squeeze into a toy car that's half your size, with your knees sticking out to either side and the tassle on your fez blowing in the breeze. Baby, you were born to ride.

YES! YES!

Also:

Alternate for Fly:

-Longbow Chaser: You hop into a Longbow chaser, and even gain machine gun and rocket launcher powers to go with it. Unfortunately, because it is a longbow chaser, these attacks deal no damage and you have a -90% resistance, defense, and max HP while riding in it.

this made me laugh out loud, at the office no less - thanks!

Alternate form of Teleport:

- Rabbit Hole:
When the destination is chosen, a tunnel forms linking the character's current location to his new location, even if the destination is on a building or in mid-air. 'Holing' teammates causes the user's arm to disappear into the tunnel mouth, emerge at the target, grab a leg, and yank the (looney) toon through. Known bug: Long Range Rabbit Hole tends to land characters in Albuquerque; a left turn must then be made to reach the proper zone.

Hah! These ideas are great! Definitely something I'd pay money for. Especially these two...

What else? Hmm.

How about something mythical, inspired by the Server-corn from the whiteboard during today's Ustream chat?

- Summon Pooka (super speed): The next Magic-themed pack includes this legendary beast. Do not be mislead by the cutesy name and mild forms this dark shapeshifter can take: horse, rabbit, goat, goblin, or dog. It is a fae who delights in giving a wild ride. While on the Pooka you cannot use any other travel power for you must hang on for dear life. On the up side, you move too fast for most people to see (stealth). Every 15 seconds there is a 5% chance that your direction arrows will reverse, and you must spur the creature (jump) to get it once again going the direction you desire. It never stops moving, so unless you dismount (turn the power off) the Pooka will move (sprint) in an outward spiral.

For an alternate walk, I wanna see the "Haters Gonna Hate" walk.

Deadpool does this in MvC3.

I would kill for the freak out sprint, instant mood upper if that existed and I was in a foul mood.

Can I Play?

Walk Speed

* Mime Walk 1 - Walking against the wind. Today your walk will be mostly slow with occassional gusts resulting in backwards movement.

* Mime Walk 2 - Who put all these invisible walls all over the place?!

* Thriller Walk - A metamorphosis walk that switches between a zombie shamble, a moonwalk, a strobe-light style zombie strut and a zombie moonwalk. Note: body parts have been known to fall off during the Zombie Moonwalk... please take the time to pick up your parts... keep Paragon clean!

* Prat Fall Walk - Actually this LOOKS like a full on run but with all the banana peels, strategically placed rakes and face plant cream pies, it averages out to walking speed.

* Really Strong Suspenders Walk - Another one that has the character trucking and running as hard as they can... however a Huge size generic character is holding on to their bungee-cord suspenders and the resulting drag slows them down to walking speed. The dragee will be eating a sandwich and looking bored during thier participation.

* Incredible Contraption Walk - Character is seated on the bicycle seat of a machine that looks rather like it just sprang directly out of who-ville just after Christmas. The contraption is rather large and has no less than fifty various hamsters, gerbils, mice and other rodents running in a variety of wheels and treadmills. Depsite having a 50 RP engine... it still moves at walking speed. Given that it is a Seuss contraption however... it plays delightful.. if discordant... music as it goes.

* Conga Line - Walk speed while doing the Conga. Every civillian you pass while using this walk will place their hands on the hips of the last person in line and join in. Other characters may also join the line by using the same emote while near it. The conga music will accompany the procession. Even when the originating character stops using the emote the civies will all remain in loose formation doing normal dance emotes until, one by one, they lose the groove and wander off aimlessly.

Sprint Speed

* Charioteer - The character rides proudly standing in a roman-style chariot. The creature pulling the chariot is a very thin, very paranoid-looking rabbit. Think the March Hare from Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland, only the size of an average rabbit. When standing still the rabbit power-chomps carrots, pants as though about to keel over or attempts to pick the lock on his harness.

* Slow Motion Sprint - The theme from Chariots of Fire plays triumphantly as the character runs in slow motion. Despite his slowed steps he actually moves along at normal sprint speed which makes for passers-by to blink and do double takes.

* Get on Down The Road - The character does the dance-walk from the Wizard of Oz (there is also a version from The Wiz). The emote also includes an area of golden bricks to appear under the character's feet as they move. As an added bonus, any other characters who do the same travel emote within range will link arms together and "run" in unison.

* Marathon Runner - Character will have shorts and a tank top with a number pasted to it appear OVER their existing costume. They will run at a brisk pace, occasionally reaching up to press index and middle fingers against their neck to check their pulse rate. Every few minutes they run a generic individual will appear directly in their path and hand them a small dixie cup from which they will sip then pour the remainder over their heads.

* Olympic Power Walker - Similar to the Marathon Runner except now they are "walking" in such a way that their lower spines and hips would seem to be composed mostly of ballbearings.

* Is It Still After Me?! - Character sprints mostly normally but frequently casts looks back over their shoulders and occasionally even turns around and jogs backwards for a while with a panicked look on their face. The side benefit to this emote is any civillian seeing your hero run like this will assume the worst and begin "panic running" right along behind them in a long, sprinting line. Stopping the run will immediately disperse the line, with people walking away. For the next five minutes all former members of the line have dialog complaining about your character being a coward and "running from nothing."

* Oh Benny We Miss You - Yakkety Sacks plays in the background as your character does the normal walk emote... at sprint speeds. If several characters begin chasing each other around any zone using this emote as a group one of them will randomly transform into a short old, bald man. Although this new-appearanced character is now targetable, the only result you get from attacking him is to rapidly tap him on the head to a loud slapping sound-effect.

My mind wanders so often you've probably seen its picture on milk cartons. - Me... the first person version of the third person Steelclaw

Actually this sounds like a Brainstorm I had for the "travel" of a new pool powerset called Combat Running, which was half-sprint speed and gave a combat jumping defense. Animations included random tuck and rolls and front flips, sorta like Red Caps.

Ooh, almost forgot. You know that button you use for "down" when you're flying?

That honks the horn.
