just wondering from those more experienced at this set... which is better for solo play SuperInvis or Arctic Fog +Stealth IO (in Hover)

Arctic Fog + Stealth IO in Hover will use less endurance. For most of PvE, both hit the stealth cap so are equal in terms of invisibility. With Arctic Fog, you get some additional Resistance to Fire, Cold and Energy Damage, plus the Defense in it does not suppress. (AF has 3.75% base Defense, SI has 2.25% after suppression, or 4.5% before suppression.) For High Perception foes, SI is a little better. Arctic Fog uses .26 endurance (before any EndRdx) and Hover uses .0975. Compare that to Superior Invis, which uses .52 endurance before any EndRdx.

Most of the time on my Ill/Cold, I use Arctic Fog + Super Speed (slotted with EndRdx only). I have Superior Invis, but rarely use it -- and I may respec out.

I didn't take SI. There isnt much in the game that can see through AF and a stealth IO that can't see through SI.

The one problem with putting the Stealth IO in Hover is that you will be limited to Hover whenever you want to be invis. If you put a Stealth IO in Sprint (or a vet sprint power), then you don't have to give up speed for Invis. You can use either the Celerity or the cheaper Unbounded Leap.

I have found that sometimes, especially when up against Rikti, that you don't want to rely upon Invis alone. The Drones ignore Invis. You can Deceive one or two, but when there is a bunch of them, it is best just to pop a Defense Insp and run. If you are stuck in Hover, that may be a problem. (This problem has come to the forefront with the Lady Grey being the WST this week.)

Well you can skip Super Invis and pickup Group Invis which is a click power, it has 120 sec duration and under a few global recharges and bonus recharges, its easy to get it under perma. I don't know if it stacks on top of Artic Fog but by the power, GI being a click instead of a toggle like SI which will detoggle off AR if you click it, may drop the need for a stealth IO in sprint.

Actually, I just hopped on the forums seeking advice on an ill/cold troller if its better to soft-cap it or not. I have an ill/rad and if played right, no shields are needed. But I am new to ill/cold atm so, I would like a little feedback on the matter to soft-cap the defense on it or not.

This build isn't a complete build. You still have lvl 41 powers and slots to chose and place. DOH! You have said that above. Okay solo'ing GM's on this AT is not a challenge once it is at lvl 50. You will want to grab the right T4 Incarnates for this build as well.

I didnt. My sm/l is sitting at 32.5ish so a small purple can cap me, but perma PA means I rarely get aggro.

so as it stands now I won't be able to solo GMs yet?

Perma PA level recharge is all Ill/cold needs to solo AVs/GMs. Rebirth is helpful if you get a random hit when your re-summoning PA.

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

on my ill/cold i like using superior invis, i save a slot on a +stealth IO, and because of the high rech in my build i have perma HL (buff portion) so end is non issue

i also use my ill/cold in a lot of tough/different situations and i like having the invis to basically everything except the baddies which ignore stealth

i think this choice is a matter of personal preference
