I need heeeeelp!!

I have this great idea for a character, but I need some help. She's an old RPG character of mine, and the powers I want to give her are archery and dark. I'm having trouble deciding exactly what I want from her, except to be a bad*ss, and so here is what my problem is. Do I go Ar/Dark Corr, Dark/Ar Def, or wait until i21 drops and go Ar/Dark blaster? I know I wanna fight from a distance, and the new powers for Dark Mastery don't seem to lend themselves well to that. I also know that I want to deal good damage, but also survive pretty well. What do I do?!?!

I made 2 different builds for a Corr and a Def, which was totally unhelpful because they're both really nice in slightly different ways. I know the Corr will end up with more damage, particularly with scourge, but the Def is definitely more survivable. I'll probably go with Cardiac or Spiritual alpha either way, and I'm not sure about the others.

Has anyone rolled either of these toons? What have you discovered about them? I would love some help because I really want this new toon and it's driving me crazy that I can't decide...

Gotta go with Aett on this one. However you could go Dark/TA Corruptor or TA/Dark Defender as well. I just recently started a Dark/Cold Corruptor and Dark Blast is the ******* on a Corr.

Well, an Arch/Dark corruptor should be a great choice for your preferred style and unquestionably it'll output a lot more damage than a Dark/Archery defender.

I'd approach it like so:
Open with Fearsome Stare to cower the spawn
Drop Tar Patch
Let loose with Rain of Arrows/Fistful of Arrows/Exploding Arrow
Kill any survivors with another Fistfull & Blazing Arrow where needed.
Move on to the next spawn.

If you have a nasty baddie then drop Darkest Night on him to keep him out of trouble in addition to the above. Pet Gaze will take care of any irritating minion/LT.

I've played an Arch/EM blaster to 50 and am currently working on a Fire/Dark corruptor, 38 as of last night; that's how I'd play the Arch/Dark combination. It should kick much butt and be quite survivable once it matures. I know on my Fire/Dark the combination of Fearsome Stare, Tar Patch and Rain of Fire will by itself wipe out minions... adding Fire Ball and Fire Breath pretty much wipes the spawn.

One of the best things about Archery is how light on endurance it is... I took my Arch/EM blaster to 50 without ever taking or needing the Fitness pool.

Man, these are all good suggestions, but then I was thinking... what if I want some more utility? What if I went Trick arrow/AR defender, the goal being to light up the night with oil slick and Blazing Arrow? Here's a build I came up with for that as well.

It encourages you to play more than one character...

I've been rich, and I've been poor. Rich is definitely better.

I think you'll find that TA is a bit of a disappointment; it's considerably slower setup than Dark. I've a friend with a 50 TA/A defender and he's not been very sold on it. TA is a set that looks good on paper and works well on a slow paced team, it's not going to move as fast as a Dark will though.

But heck, if it looks interesting go for it; maybe it'll be just what you're looking for and you'll enjoy the set. For me, and for my buddy, it was too slow and cumbersome.

Yeah, the TA debuff powers do seem to recharge real slow. I think it would be a fun set to run at some point, but I think i'm going to go with dark on this one. I do <3 Tar patch
I'll have to find a way to work fearsome stare into my build. It seems like a great power.

Question:
Is taking both Stunning shot and Petrifying gaze worth it? I could just as well take Fearsome stare if not. I was thinking it would be a nice double stacked st hold/immob with SS and PG. I would also lose a little bit of rech if i took FS, but i could pick it up elsewhere.

I wouldn't take both Stunning Shot and Petrifying Gaze (especially if doing so meant dropping Fearsome Stare which is an AWESOME power). Since one is a stun and the other a hold you can't stack which limits the value of having both (they aren't useless just less useful). Now of the two I'd actually recommend taking Stunning Shot over Petrifying Gaze They are both reasonably similar in terms of effectiveness (SS has longer duration but also longer recharge so it balances out) but SS will stack with Howling Twilight or Oppressive Gloom to easily mez a boss if you need to.

Fearsome stare is one of the best powers in the set IMO; it's capable of taking an entire room out of the fight and it packs a fairly hefty -tohit along with it. I wouldn't even consider rolling a Dark without this power.

Well, one is a stun and one a hold; both will only stop minions and LT's. Of the two I'd probably give a slight nod to Pet Gaze simply because a stunned mob can still wander around while a hold locks them in place. Let me stress though that you want Fearsome Stare no matter what! It will cower an entire room and those mobs that get to shoot back will have a -15% tohit debuff on them.

do you think slotting the recharge speed alpha would help the playability of TA? the end redux alpha helped immensely on other toons that i have.

Personally I've only taken TA/A to around 20, but the problem I had was more to do with the animation time; the amount of time it took to get all the debuffs in place rather than recharge time.

It simply went click the power, click on the location where the power should drop... click the power, click on the location where it should drop... click the power, click on the location where it should drop then start blasting. Lots of setup time and by the time the debuffs were down a good team was already moving on to the next spawn. I find Traps to be much the same but I know some players, including another good friend of mine Local Man, really like the set. I don't dispute it's power, I just don't like the extended setup time.

I have a A/TA corr and Awesome hits the nail on the head here. It's a really fun character, but the extended set up time for the debuffs usually doesn't fit with the speed that teams kill groups of enemies.

Scourging Rain of Arrows is super sweet, though.
