WP: Is Tough necessary?

I've recently been struggling with a build for my KM/WP scrapper - Tough is undeniably very good, but boxing/kick is worthless and not taking weave just feels wrong.

Thing is that it's 3 powers that aren't very fun to take, so i'm wondering how much i'd cripple myself by opting out of the Fighting pool. Numbercrunching aside, i won't be solo'ing AV's, i'll be in a team most of the time and when i solo i don't make it too difficult on myself ;p

Solo'ing EB's would be handy though.

I always take it.

If you don't need it for what you do and how you like to play, then perhaps you should skip it.

I played WP a lot without fighting pool early on because I wasn't a max'er and it is very survivable in teams and in ordinary missions. I only added it to my build when I had trouble on ITF. Bloody magic javelins.

I like it more now that fitness is inherited. I could see taking another pool, ie Leadership depending on the primary, or Concealment for more ways to slot LotG: def/+rec. Weave does help in building def to S/L. and if you haven't slotted the res/+3% def IO somewhere else you can slot it into Tough.

Could always IO for S/L/E/N Defense and rely on that.

I find it very useful to have myself.

More resistance is always a good thing! Especially when 75% of the game uses some form of S/L damage.

I don't have a Scrapper build where I've not taken Tough. It's very useful!

I'd be surprised if every other power in your build is better than tough, if overall performance is your goal.

It's not necessary; WP is pretty sturdy as is. In my opinion, however, WP is the set that gels with the Fighting Pool the best. You can afford the extra toggle without accolades/cardiac/other endurance management and it really ramps up your, well, toughness.

BUT, I totally understand that it's not fun to take. Maybe respec into it? That's what I did on my BS/WP (though mostly because I didn't really know what I was doing back then). All said, it's not a requirement.

Performance isn't really the goal. I just want to take some more fun powers rather than the "must have this/that", which i already hated when fitness was still a seperate pool. I'd rather play a character than a spreadsheet, if you know what i mean.

I swapped it out so i could take super jump at least. In normal missions i don't really see any difference, if anything it goes a little better, maybe because i dont have tough and weave sucking up so much endurance (not level 50 yet).

That said, still looking at what powers i might or might not need from km and wp themselves. Repulsing Torrent seems to be the dead weight of km, on the other hand it can be useful as a way of escape or damage control. Resurgence and Strength of Will might be less useful, though i can't take them yet - I wonder how much i will use them and whether i get to use them more than once in a blue moon.

Do you really need a spreadsheet to know, "More survival powers = better survival"?

Just because people take/suggest taking Tough/Weave doesn't mean spreadsheet play

You say Repulsing torrent can be useful for a way of escape, couldn't one just as easily say with Tough/Weave one wouldn't have needed to eascape?

Resurgence is terrible, because you can't use it with enemies around and still stay alive long enough to come back. It's basically like using a wakie in the middle of a group of enemies. You're going to die again.

SoW, I think it's worth it, other's don't. It's on a fixed timer and you tend to want to use it either before jumping in on a group or really quickly before things go south.

SoW will see less use if you build WP for better defense.

Didn't mean it like that, should have rephrased ;p

I just wanted to know whether not having fighting pool powers would cripple my character to such a point where solo'ing stuff at 50 would become impossible. I don't care much about min/maxing (at least untill a certain point), but i don't want to run into a situation where i can't finish a mission because i can't get past a single boss mob.

I guess it comes down to whether i really need to have a lot of min/maxing done if i want to get anything done when i get to 50 on km/wp.

I hope that makes sense ;p

Tough is nice and I wouldn't skip it personally, but no, you won't be crippled. You'll be just fine. You do not need to do any real min/maxing to get along fine at level 50 if you have at least a decent idea how to build and how to play. The fact that you're here asking the question tells me that you know enough about builds and playing to make an intentional compromise like this and get away with it. If you run into a troublesome elite boss, use some inspirations. When solo, don't turn on AVs. No problems.

I'm guessing you'd mostly notice the difference when soloing at high difficulty levels. Most of the time in the normal game, you could probably play the toon with and without Tough back to back and not even notice any difference.

Buys some medium orange inspirations from Wentworths, and pop them one by one during a mission against enemies with smashing or lethal damage. Maybe run Sprint if you don't normally to simulate the extra endurance usage.

You'll see the effects of Tough that way and decide for yourself if it's worthwhile.

It comes down to what difficulty you want to play at.

If you're playing at 0/1, then no. 4/8 It comes in really handy.
