Sonic Resonance ideas
What, no -damage in the set too? I mean, mechanically resistance and -damage go hand in hand, so there should be a way to add that. Dark with its -tohit gets some defence in the set.
Also, to make it even more user friendly, there should probably be a rez power as well. Call it Get off the Fracking Floor or GOFF! The animation can look like my mother in law screaming at me.
Hm. I like the addition of regeneration, though saying that sound makes you heal does seem a bit odd. The rest? Clarity is nice for a non-hugging team mez protection. The KD seems a cool take.
Just to note: I made a few suggestions on improving Sonic Resonance a bit back here, and emailed it to a Dev. The dev said that everything was reasonable, but that the sets in the link above were not underperforming, so weren't receiving attention any time soon.
Sonic Resonance just needs to be better at debuffing than thermal by a margin similar to Thermals advantage with regard to Buffing, otherwise there's no reason to pick sonic over thermal except concept.
To that end, I'll make my suggestion of adding -22.5 dam and -200% regen to the three debuff powers; Sonic Siphon, Disruption Field, and Liquefy. Those would be controller numbers by the way, and defenders would get better ones obviously.
That's really all that would be needed, I think.

I don't think you need to search for justification regarding sonic healing people while we accept without question that SETTING PEOPLE ON FIRE or irradiating them somehow heals their wounds, protects them from injury, or even brings them back from the brink of death.
I thought about that, but this is much more of a stretch of the imagination versus cauterizing wounds, or using radiation therapy, etc.
Changes I would like to see
Sonic Siphon Like siphon power -resistance, +resistance to all team members
Sonic Dispersion +range, +regen
Sonic Haven +10% HP
Sonic Barrier +range
Disruption Field -range, -regen
Liquefy +Tohit, +Damage, +Range and still do knockdown hold.
+Range is unique, no other set gets that. Sonic waves helps you extend your reach to new levels never thought of before. *yes x/energy get boost range, an incarnate power offers boost range also*
Sonic Repulsion would be erased and a new tier 9 power. Sonic Bomb, kind of like what you see in the higher level freakshow missions. The bomb does aoe -resistance, moderate damage and if destroyed extreme damage.
Sonic Bomb sounds like it would be better as an APP power
Whatever changes to Sonic there are the impact on controllers, defenders and corrupters has to be taken into account. +Range to a controller is something I'd regard as potentially strong.
They could turn the repulsion into a power that effects the ear drums and causes inbalance for a knockdown disorient combo but then the disorient to the controller might be a bit good.
Irrc think they lowered the recharge on Liquefy because to a controller it was good. I bet it would of been better for everybody else to have not of given controllers Sonic.
Todays sonic weaponry disorients through affecting the ear drums. Sound can be used to repel even if its through painful to the ear music that makes people turn around and it can cause demoralization through communication which can inturn weaken an enemies strategy but why -dam when you can +res?
That Repulsion could do -Dam, because sound affects the ears, ears affect balance and balance affects force, it won't make it much of a more attractive power except when facing AVs but that's the part I think it might be alright for without going far outside of anything conceptually.

IMO give Clarity Psi Resistance and make that portion an AoE a la ID, and drop the Recharge on Liquefy from 500 to 240 (which equals about 50% up time). Sonic Repulsion is trash regardless but Sonic is a set that IMO is salvageable with very few changes. The powers themselves are fairly interesting but the values on some of them (particularly the recharge on Liquefy) are unjustified.
I'm still in favor of making Sonic Siphon a true siphon and having it apply a +Resistance buff to the caster. (I think it being a team or aoe buff would be too strong.)
I don't think you need to search for justification regarding sonic healing people while we accept without question that SETTING PEOPLE ON FIRE or irradiating them somehow heals their wounds, protects them from injury, or even brings them back from the brink of death.

Everyone knows setting people on fire makes them better. Where did you go to school?
(Note: For the dense, yes I am joking.)
I think sonic ought to do more -res since that it supposed to be what it is best at.

A long time ago I suggested that Sonic Siphon summon a "ball of sound" wherever it is cast. The ball can't be harmed and doesn't move, but can receive buffs. Specifically, your Sonic Disruption ring or the knockback toggle, if you choose to hang either of them there. The ball could also have its own PBAoE effect of some kind... maybe -Regen/-Heal?
so with Sonic Resonance being ported to MM I was thinking of rolling one, but I know it leaves much to be desired, so i figured I would put in my .02 inf on some possible fixes and see what people thought.
First off I know the complaints about a resistance set not having a heal like Thermal, but I did a quick google search and I found that ultrasonic vibrations can stimulate cells allowing for faster healing. Granted I know that's stretching things, but this is a game after all where anything is possible. (Don't even know if it's true, but I bought into it)
So with that said I see no reason why we can't add a +Regen effect to Sonic Dispersion and just increase the end cost to compensate.
And since we're adding +Regen, no reason not to put in some -Regen in Sonic Siphon, I figure it's not gonna be as good as Benumb, or Heat Exhaustion, but a low mag is better than none.
As for Sonic Repulsion... if the medic (Merc primary) worked as intended for example, or phnaty then i would say leave it the way it is at least for those two archetypes. I have 2 suggestions for this power otherwise... 1) Simply turn it into a Repel clone (i.e. self targeting). OR B) Make it a self AoE KD, so we don't get that crappy extra end drain for each enemy KBd, I know Repel only costs an extra 1 end for each, but I still hate it.
Clarity - Remove the Hold and Immobilize protection from it (we already get it in Sonic Dispersion and I figured Clarity is more a mental thing whereas those 2 are more imho physical impairments.), and add Psi Res, and a +ToHit to go along with the +Perception (and should help with the fact that this set has no -DEF).
The rest are pretty straight forward. I think I may have seen some of these suggested else where: Sonic Cage can be turned into a hold a la Petrifying Gaze, Disruption Field can be switched to an enemy AoE like radiation's debuffs, and Liquefy can have it's recharge reduced if they take the damage component out and and reduce the hold mag or reduce the chance it goes off.
So there ya have it. I love sonic powers, just wish this set was a little more user friendly. So comments, complaints, confusion???? Let me know what you think, and please pardon any grammatical errors.
