Hey Techies,

Im having some crashing issues that im unable to resolve. The crashing only occurs in AE ambush farms. I have 2 accounts and enjoy PLing the other via AE. PC runs fine in regular content with no issues. No other issues with any other programs that im aware of.

Ive upgraded my memory, swapped to an older vid card, bought a new vid card and the issue still occurs. I havnt reformatted my hard drive yet but have defragged. Ive checked every driver i can think of. So im at a loss for words.

I tried tech support with play nc, they replied with asking me to play in safe mode and to play around with the graphic settings. What a joke.

Listed below is my CoH helper and in my following reply will be my hijack this file. I will do anything within reason to fix my problem. 2 billion influence will go to the person who truly solves my issue, telling me to buy a new PC is not a solution to my problem.

Did you actually try running in safe mode, as they suggested? And did that alleviate the crashing?

Are both clients (assuming you're alt+tabbing between the two) crashing, or just one?

Does this happen on every ambush farm map, or just specifically the one you favor?

Anyway, I'm not going to suggest getting a whole new computer, but reformatting or replacing the the primary drive probably wouldn't hurt. I tend to keep 3 hard drives in my machine: 1 small OS drive, 1 medium program/data drive, 1 large storage drive. I then tend to clean off the OS drive at least every 6-12 months.

This method also lessens clutter and slow-down, since only the bare minimum is on my C: drive.

Yes i tried running in safe mode, no crashes but that is not a long term fix for me. Sometimes one will crash and not the other. Other times they both crash. Any ambush map will cause the crash.

That was my only thought. I 2-boxed on different computers with the same video cards and drivers, and would get occasional crashes on ambush farms (screen-freeze, game locked up, had to call up task manager to close CoH out). My problems went away when I went down to the 11.2 Catalyst drivers (looks like you're on 11.7) but if you've already done the full uninstall-safe mode driver cleaner-install older version thing without any good results, I'm at a loss.

Good luck to you!

Are you making sure you're running with "/maxinactivefps (small_number)" on your second account? You could very well be overloading your processor or graphics card with too much information during gigantic ambushes if both accounts are fully rendering everything. This command will limit the number of frames per second that your system will render IF it isn't the active window... meaning your game will still render at full throttle when you're actually playing.

I added "-maxinactivefps 1" to the game shortcut for the same effect, as I like to alt+tab out and read the forums or webcomics during downtime, or on the rare occassions I'm dual boxing.

Along with the /maxinactivefps setting that Chad mentioned, make sure that you set the NCLauncher to close when the game is launched. There is, so I'm told, a memory leak that occurs when you leave the Launcher open. I see it running in the HJT log.

I don't know since I set mine to close after launching the game when I first installed the new Launcher, but people I've added to my "game technical info trust list" have reported it, so I'll take their word for it.

I also see that you have an ATI video card listed in CoH Helper and HJT logs show some nVidia graphics services running. Have you previously had an nVidia card installed? You may want to make sure the nVidia drivers and software are fully uninstalled and then run Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode to remove the parts that the uninstallers don't remove.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Additionally, I see you have 8GB of memory. Are all of your sticks the same brand and model?

I ran into a problem a couple years back where I picked up some cheap RAM, and while it worked fine on its own and there were no issues reported by MemTest, it wasn't compatible with the memory that was already in the system and caused sporadic but frequent crashes for no discernible reason. The new sticks were even from the same manufacturer as what I was already using, just different models.

I took it back to the store, spent the extra $20 to get RAM that matched what was already in the machine and never had that problem again.

Since the crashing im no longer dual logging, i still crash on ambush farms with only one account running.

I just removed the old Nvidia drivers.

I leave the NC Launcher up due to the crashes to load the next instance of CoH. The problem existed before i swapped over to the launcher though. Ill give it a shot though.

Memory is all the same, brand new freshly upgraded.

Off beat suggestion.

Make sure you don't have combat logging turned on. [ edit wrong word ]

Dual boxing and AE ambush farms I can see hitting that problem area pretty quickly. Although that shouldn't cause a crash.

[ edit / add ]
Make sure that combat logging isn't on.

ive also had some issues with AE maps causing crashes, there might be some issues with certain AE maps and such (one night a friend was gonna help PL a few of my toons and both of us were crashing withing 2 min of entering AE map)

Well i take it you are using a newer version of the catalyst ati driver. Now for whatever reason ati/amd or just amd as they now call it feels that they are entitled to our money when they give us products that are supported by half ***** drivers. I had the same issues with an ati 5850 and what i did was roll it back to the 10.8 drivers and everything was all good. Since you have a 6 series it may not support it on the 10.8 drivers so you might have to try the 11.2s. Just make sure you uninstall the old video drivers first or it wont allow you to install the old ones. /thread and Wheres my money?
