Statesman dying would be soooooo Epic ... and bring some much needed catharsis to Long Time Players like myself. Besides, he deserves to die ... even if only as a warning/wake up call to Emperor Cole and Reichsman.

BaBs is old. It makes sense for him to die, especially if Galaxy City gets demolished as it's where he is as a trainer.
