Vet Badges in Freedom

Hey Devs or anyone else who knows, for the past few months since returning to the game I got all excited because I knew that on October 9th I'd FINALLY get up to the much desired City Traveller, 60 month Vet badge. The ability to pick a travel power without needing to take a power before it was something that I always wanted. I'm only a few months away...

However, here comes Freedom. I hear you're doing away with vet rewards but allowing those who have earned them to keep them... yet, where does that put me? I mean, this would be like giving me the shaft. I'm so close to this reward, yet impossible for me to get it after nearly 5 years of playtime?

So I was told to never criticize without offering a suggestion, so here's my suggestion. Automatically advance everyone one vet badge forward. This way, the thing that you were looking forward to next you can keep and then do away with them. I know this still may leave some wanting, but it's a suggestion nonetheless.

Let me know please! I want my city traveller reward!

Well I have good news and bad news for you. First good news, the devs are (effectively) taking your suggestion. Due to the way the current Veteran Rewards are translated into Paragon Rewards (the new system) everyone effectively advances one Veteran Rewards Step for every year they have been subscribed. You will have enough paragon reward points to purchase all of your current rewards plus 4 more. So even if you stop subscribing when Freedom launches you'll have more Paragon Rewards than you currently have Veteran Rewards and since Paragon Rewards are very similar to Veteran Rewards this equates to more free stuff.

Now the bad news. The City Traveler reward is not featured on the currently released Paragon Rewards System. There is some speculation about what this means but I haven't seen any confirmation from Rednames on this.

Also, it's entirely possible that Freedom won't be out by the time you get the City Traveler vet reward. Just saying...

October is a long way away and I don't think it's difficult to flip a switch and go F2P. I completely assume that Freedom will hit in between mid August and mid September. Maybe I'm wrong... but... this badge to me is the most important badge in the game to have. Sure air superiority is nice. Sure combat jumping is nice. Sure all the powers are 'nice'.... yet, having a travel power at 6 and being able to skip right to it... can't really be topped.

Just out of curiosity then, does that mean no one will get City Traveller? Could've swore they said you keep your current vet rewards, so if you have it I think for the rest of CoX's lifespan only those who have it by Freedom's release date will be the only ones to ever have it?

I'm not up to date on all the new on Freedom, or in the i21 beta(grrrr ), but I just found this easily on the website;

Quote:
You'll be able to select from all the rewards that you to could find in the Veteran Rewards in the Paragon Rewards program and new rewards exclusive to the Paragon Rewards program, as well! In addition, you can choose which rewards you receive every time you earn a new one. We've worked to make sure that the Paragon Rewards program treats our current players right. You will keep all of your accumulated Veteran Rewards and badges.

Technically I guess if it does launch august-september you should be able to get City Traveler early

Keep in mind Freedom releases with Issue 21, an Issue with an entire zone complete with zone event, powerset across multiple ATs, and an Incarnate Trial(hopefully it'll be tested properly in beta*cough i20.5-iXP-of-doom* ).

And since it's not an "oh well our MMO died *flip* F2P for all!" but a "hmm we're doing so well let's see how this new innovative system works out for us" it's more than flipping a switch. They'll have to check and re-check every paragon reward/veteran reward conversion or whatever else is involved, as well as the in-game market. Yknow everyone's gotta be careful with the $ lol .

Veteran Rewards too I bet, since last time they changed the Vetsystem and it didn't go as planned people got free badges and they were kind enough to not rip them & their claimed rewards away.

Actually, it looks like the City Traveler benefit will not be available via the Paragon Rewards program.

Reports coming in from folks demoing Freedom at Comic-Con are that travel powers unlock for everyone at level 4, and that the travel pools now have an extra power that unlocks later.

New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)

Oh my.

.... okay, I have to know NOW... what are these new powers? (Also, the obligatory "Damn you Comic-Con for being on the other coast!")

yup. I'm going to NYCC this year but the coolest release of the year will probably be freshly released, with no word at all on "the next big thing" coming. I know it will still be fun though, last year was awesome

I was going to say that something like this might happen. A lot of other level restrictions are being changed (Ouroboros, for example). I figured they were going to get rid of the travel prerequisite at some point. Maybe that's what's going to happen.

um... shoot. I saw a list yesterday and can't recall where it was.
Never mind. Recalling that one was called "Burnout" let me search. It's here.

Quote:
Flight gets Afterburners. You cannot use any other powers while it is active.
Super Jump gets a leap attack that will probably work like shield charge.
Teleportation gets long distance teleport, but I only got to level 4 so I don't know how it works.
Super Speed gets Burnout, which instantly recharges all primary and secondary pool powers, but costs 48.5 end, reduces max end by 25% and has a 30 minute base recharge.
