Psionic combat & psionic armor themed powers

I have this concept in mind for a psionic melee/psionic armor based toon. Basically his melee attacks are infused with psionic energy and he can encase himself in psionic armor. My problem is deciding on a set of primary and secondary power sets.

Currently i'm trying him out as a KM/Fire scrapper. I like it so far, but I'm not sure how well Fire fits the psionic armor idea, especially considering its lack of psi def/res. Dark would be a great choice for the psi defense, but again I'm not sure how well it fits visually as a substitute for psi-armor.

So my question is, which pair of power sets do you think would most closely represent a melee focused, psychic combatant with psi-armor?

A Melee Fort is one answer. Mine uses a Body Combat Atomic Aura coloured pink to simulate a psionic field. She mixes Claw attacks and things like Dominate to give the impression of a psionic meleer. Downside is being stuck with the Arachnos look and feel for 10 levels and waiting 24 to respec into the proper Fort moves.

If it has to be a Scrapper then Willpower with an added suitable Cossie Aura might work too. As for the primary I'm not as sure. KM is a good match alright. Dual Blades with coloured Vanguard blades might work too?

I was actually looking at a melee focused Fort with Scream, Wail, tornado, etc. I hadn't thought about the auras. I'll have to check them out and see if I like the look. I also originally saw it as a male toon, But it would work as a female as well.

Thanks for the feedback.

You can be a male Fort / Widow too. Looks slightly odd in the Arachnos Fort/Widow armour to start but once you hit level 10 you get a second cossie slot which you can make as you see fit.

There's no reason why Psionic Armour should provide resistance to psychic attacks. It makes just as much sense that its effective against physical abilities, but another psychic can disrupt it.

Fire Armour is an interesting choice. Burn would be the hardest to explain as psychic energy. Also, be aware on Scrappers that it still causes enemies to flee, but doesn't on Brutes and Tanks now. I'm currently living with that frustration...

Energy Aura could look like a psychic force field quite easily, and the stealth makes sense. And its getting some rather nice tweaks. One downside is that you'll be far from unique.

Dark Armor is also a good choice with Stealth, and a stun aura. It can be recoloured without the pulse or fade effects. Visually it would work very well I think, with the halo ring from Obsidian Shield.

For a melee set, Energy Melee seems quite fitting. Fire Melee could also work, and for once materialising swords out of thin air may actually make sense.

Bonus note for Dark Armor: it has the highest resistance to psionic damage of all armors and protection against all mez types including fear and confusion. Willpower does have some psionic resistance though, and defense too, as well as exotic mez protection. Anyway, either of those you could easily color appropriately.

Since Energy Melee got a mention, I'll bring up Kinetic Melee too.

my marvel circa 1990's themed psi/psi toon is a Kinetic Melee/ Energy Aura Brute, colored right, it fits perfectly

of course, I've shelved him for now until the new shiny goodness for EA comes out in issue 21, figured the post 20 leveling experience would be better with all the new tweaks to EA.

Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.

screw your joke, i want "FREEM"

All the way through the thread, I was going to suggest the new /EA for psionic armor. Sounds like a decent fit to me. And a Brute could rationalize Fury as "feeding off his enemies' psychic energy" or somesuch.

Dark Armor would work, seeing as it's got a ton of psionic resistance, has some control powers, and can be colored.
