Need help with a Plant/Thorn Dom

I'm thinking of starting up a Plant/Thorn Dom but looking at Mids I have a problem: There are SO many nice powers and not enough slots!

I'm not looking for some mega-billions Inf build laced with Purple Recipes or anything like that but I do want the character to be fun and effective and I'm not shy about spend some cash to get there.

Are there any Powers that aren't as good as they look on paper or things that I can trim slots on?

Thanks in advance.

118.5% global recharge without hasten but I also didn't bother to try for any def, which some folks like - I figure on a plant dom everything should be confused, held or dead so def is a waste. If you want perma-dom without hasten you could slot another purple set - replacing entangle with roots and putting a gravitational anchor in it would put you at 122.5% global which means you would have perma-dom without hasten.

The only purple set I used was the coercive persuasion set in seeds and thats because its usually fairly cheap (relatively speaking). You could replace it with a Malaise's Illusion set and drop the decimation set in entangle and replace it with a enfeebled operation, it would cost you about 5% recharge but would be a bit cheaper.

Other notes - I skipped impale because it is a very slow activating attack, although I do love the wind up. You will probably want to take it as you level up but once you have ripper + thorn barrage you should have a solid attack chain without it. I skipped thorntrops because its basically useless.

I took Entangle because I had an open power selection and single target immobilizes are very usefull against EB's/AV's - plus it takes a decimation set, which let me hit the cap on 6.25% recharge bonuses. You could replace entangle with roots if you want the AE immob and slot a positrons blast set in it for the same bonus.

Slotting on Carrion Creepers - they are hard to slot because a lot of the IO sets they take do NOT benefit all their powers. At L50 your best bet is what I put in them - nucleolus exposure to cap acc/dam, common recharge IO's to cap recharge and a posi blast proc because all attacks have a chance to proc it. If you can't get the hami'os then slot more common IO's - 1 L50 accuracy and 2 L50 damage.

If you use reward merits and alignment merits for the LoTG +recharge IO's and the Numina's unique, most of the cost in this build will be for the 2 obliteration sets and the nucleolus exposure hami-o's, with the decimation sets a secondary cost. Crushing impact and Doctored Wounds sets are fairly cheap

I've been working on my plant/thorns build recently, and in fact was hoping for some feedback on it, so I'll add it here. The main goals here are S/L defense softcap and perma-hasten (+permadom, with hasten active).

Only skipped Entangle, Impale, and Thorntrops, none of which seem to be very controversial ones to drop.

Kept Spore Burst (mainly as a cheap-purple mule), and Spirit Tree because, well, I couldn't think of anything I wanted more. Tree could be dropped in favor of Grant Invis (if Concealment pool is kept) as another LotG +recharge mule.

Stealth and Hover are choices that a lot of others might not make, and could be changed out (but I think I want to keep both). I'm not intending to run both at the same time - I figure sometimes I may want to hover at range...

In the Ice Mastery epic pool, I think Ice Storm is probably unnecessary, but I like it so much on my Cold defender that I find it hard to skip... Mace Mastery pool with Poisonous Ray and Scorpion Shield was my other option here, but the AoE -res of Sleet is hard to pass up.

As for slotting - if I wasn't out of slots, I would gladly add some damage to Roots (though this doesn't seem terribly important for a Dom compared to a Controller) and maybe Strangler, and beef up Skewer a bit (damage/recharge).

Comments and criticism welcomed.

I should note that this is a moderately expensive, but not 'omgwtfbbq!'-expensive build.

no travel power could get kind of annoying, I assume you go for temp powers?

I'm interested in how you slotted the Creepers, aren't the procs subject to an accuracy check? do you rely on the +Acc from bonus sets?

Posted

if you want to properly slot creepers you really want to abuse those procs. creepers is its own unique power and procs are really OP in it. I fit 4 dmg procs in mine the 2 targeted aoe and the slow/knockback proc. Yes creepers needs an acc check in order to spawn more vines in order to do more dmg BUT you have thorns which does MASSIVE -def on most of its attacks. a couple sprinkles of thorn burst and fling thorns should net you a nice garden of those mob destroying vines.

Heres my current build. yes its very expensive but i grinded emp merits + villain merits daily in order to purchase everything i have here(it took months of daily tedium but im very happy now that I have this build).

As for mace mastery instead of ice mastery well I had it before but I just hate the redraw of thorns. I still needed an s/l shield and i also hated the way frozen armor makes me look so mace allows me to just focus on my /thorn attacks after ive confused/rooted the mob i want to kill.

was the Celerity -End in superspeed meant to be a +Stealth? if not, why not go with a regular IO?
