Scourge and DoT? (AR?)

Just wondering if Scourge will kick in part of the way through an attack power that is a DoT damage. If I am using something like full auto or flamethrower from the Assault Rifle set will I trigger Scourge and get its' benefits before the end of the same application?

Nope. In my experience with AR (several attacks), Dark Blast (Gloom) and Fire Blast (several attacks), Scourge will never kick in part way through a DoT. If it triggers on the first tick (essentially, on the initial to hit roll) then it affects the entire damage flow. Otherwise, there is no added damage.

Heh, well, look at it this way: once it triggers on a given attack roll, it won't STOP, either.

AR is already a hellishly devastating set, thanks to two fantastic cone powers and Ignite. It doesn't NEED any more damage.

I just tried this: web grenade + ignite, minion starts to drop HP. Hit with Burst, his HP is now lower, and Scourge appears to kick in from Ignite. Can anyone confirm this?


Ideally, the tank will die precisely as everyone else starts fighting, allowing aggro to be spread evenly among the blaster. -seebs, "How to Suck at CoH/CoV" Guide

Not all DoTs are implemented the same way. Powers that create a pet which then performs multiple attacks per second still "looks" the same as a regular DoT like Flamethrower, but it isn't. Each tick of Ignite is a separate attack so each one can hit/miss independently AND scourge (or not) independently. Same goes for rain powers like Rain of Fire.

Also, add Rain of Arrows to the list.

Ignite is the only power in AR that will scourge on individual ticks of the DoT because each tick counts as a separate attack being dealt by the ignite patch.

Good to know! Tested it with Full Auto and Ignite last night, and you are exactly right: Ignite would Scourge on various ticks but Full Auto would not unless it started off with the Scourge effect.

You check for scourge when you do a to hit check on a damaging power, so powers that do multiple to hit checks like rain of arrows/fire, ice storm and blizzard will check multiple times because they are not true DoTs - they are psuedo-pets that attack multiple times. A true dot, like most of dark blasts attacks only check to hit once and so only gets one scourge check. Hail of bullets is another true DoT - it looks a lot like ice storm but it only does a true to hit check once on each target, once a target is hit then it is affected by a DoT that my not fire all ticks but as each tick has fixed chance to go off you are not doing to hit checks, its more like a proc check at that point.

The trade off on powers like rain of arrows/fire is that each time it scourges you only double the damage on that single tick - so RoF will do 1.76 x 2 x (damage enhancements) each time is scourges and RoA will do 46.5 x 2 x (damage enhancements) where a true DoT will get its full damage doubled if it scourges. That steers the multiple scourging powers towards doing more average damage in exchange for a better chance of actually scourging.

Oh god, you are bringing back memories. My secondary for one of my retired AR 50s is kinetics, so add fulcrum shift after web grenade and then let the numbers run through your head.

Maybe ignite is better on a corruptor, but ever since the "fix" they implemented on it. I have been contemplating dropping it on my blaster. The amount of time it takes to Web Grenade an enemy and then line up the Ignite patch under them is just too much of Pain in the Rear for my liking, especially if I can't spam it like I used to be able to. But I can see where the scourge factor might make it better, especially during AV fights where you don't have to Web Grenade them to get them to stand in it like a dumb git.

Well, I don't skip powers based on solo ability. I team up with people as often as I can, and you run into immobilize/hold powers from teammates quite often even on PUGs. I also have web envelope from Black Scorpion.
