I'm sure there were other farms before those, but these two were the first ones that I was introduced to.
The only thing that AE did was simplify farming and change the zone in which it was done. Don't let the idea that because you didn't see people advertising for farms, there weren't any fool you. (hope I worded that correctly) Farming is a common practice throughout just about every MMO. Especially more so if players can greatly benefit from it (Powerleveling comes to mind).
Now, with that out of the way, I'd mention Katana/Willpower or Regeneration works wonders. It's also the first thing that popped in my head when I read your post; seems to fit everything just fine.
Mace/ has some nice mitigation tools, so that might be an option to consider. Though I'd guess the redraw on Mace/Regen may not be to your liking (I know it isn't for me).
I've seen a bunch of BS/Inv characters running around and I'm about to roll one... if I can find the time to do so. Guessing there's some sort of conspiracy or something

Almost everything can have good damage, to be honest. Especially if you pick an AT that is meant to dish it out, it'll be really hard to pick something that won't deal enough.
As for the 'light on the inf' part, you can decide to stick with SOs or just the common IOs. Both are fairly 'cheap' and affordable. If you feel the need to invest more into your character, you can then decide to move on to set IOs.
Also, you can get fairly lucky in terms of drops. Especially more so if you decide to do TFs and the likes as you level. Reward Merits can come in quickly easily and will grant you access to a large variety of IOs.
Once you hit level 20, you can start doing tip missions; if you do hero or villain tips as a hero or villain (respectively), you'll end up getting an Alignment Merits every two days or so (depending on your frequency of doing said tip missions). These Merits can also be spend on some expensive IOs (Luck of the Gambler 7.5% global recharge for 2 H/V Merits comes to mind).
You could also play the market for inf, but that's subject to taste. I know that I'm not that good at it and find it rather 'plain', but it is a nice source of income.
Beside that, I'd say; look at all the weapon sets (if you haven't already) and try to picture your future character. If only for a moment, it can very well get you started.
Bonus points if you try the sets up to level 5-10 to get a certain feeling of how it goes with each one.
Hope this helps.
Hello,
I need help picking a Weapon set from the melee types that will be three things. 1.) Good damage 2.) Good attack chain 3.) Light on the Inf. Secondary/Primary to go with each set will either be Willpower or Invulnerability or may try Regeneration. Its fairly simple, I only have 40mil inf and no level 50. For those of you that say to get a Farmer, no thank you, I rather make this character the actual way it is suppose to be made with this game, back before the AE plague hit. Now with that said, I hope you can help me, Im not asking for Build per say, just your choices of weapon set and why you think that will suffice. Thank you for your time and good day! ![]() |
I think Katana is the lowest cost melee set as it has Divine Avalanche for a significant cheap survivability boost and quicker recharge than Broadsword (which has Parry), making an attack chain easier with lesser recharge.
Personally, I deleted my Kat/WP Scrapper because it was easy mode. If you want a highly effective Scrapper that can be built cheaply, that's probably your best bet.
If you want a Brute I find the melee weapon sets there are power and slot intensive without very high recharge and I've had trouble putting together a cheap build for any of the combos. Mainly because I can't bring myself to do without Fighting to boost survivability on my Brutes. I like DB on Brutes because the Attack Vitals and Sweep combos benefit from Fury.
I don't care much for any of the weapon (aka Lethal Damage) sets on a Stalker. If I had to make a Stalker to fit your specifications I'd probably go BS/Reg.
On a Tanker I like Inv better than WP. My WP/DB Tanker is the only one of my 6 L50 Tankers that I don't play regularly. He's the only Tank I have of any level that has aggro management issues. I'm picky about that though. Really, any of the 6 combinations that meet your desires is probably fine. DB/Inv is probably the cheapest; what I like about that is that the Blinding Feint and Invincibility ToHit buffs make it a little easier to frankenslot early and live with that until you can afford a respec later on.
As for money: Run tip missions whenever you aren't working on something else and use the Alignment Merits to buy, craft and sell high value IOs such as the Luck of the Gambler: Global Recharge, Miracle: Recovery or Kinetic Combat: D/E/R. That will get you plenty of INF to work with.

For a good weapon set scrapper/brute that fits all your criteria, Claws/SR/Pyre is the ticket.

If you want a weapon set then I'd suggest going Willpower, Shield or SR for your secondary since they don't have many click powers to cause redraw. If you also want a cheap-ish build I'd skip Shield too because it's expensive to softcap and kind of squishy if not at least close to softcapped.
As for the weapons themselves, Katana is great on Scrappers... it provides significant melee defense which goes well with WP (or Regen if you don't mind the redraw) and makes SR trivial to cap for melee. For a Brute I'd consider Axe or Mace... Axe requires almost no global recharge to get a good attack chain and has a fair amount of KD for mitigation while Mace has stuns and is also fairly easy to get a good chain on. Again, WP or SR make good defensive choices, or possibly Electric if you want a resist based set. Invul and Dark are nice if heavily IOed but not quite as good on a cheap build unless you cherry-pick what enemies to fight. Dual Blades can also be interesting... it's a middle of the road set but it gets a good attack chain with relatively low recharge (BF -> Attack Vitals) and it looks cool.
As far as Tanks go, I'd say go Brute instead. Few Tanks have "good" damage, and the ones that do generally aren't weapon sets (Fire and maybe SS, generally). A Ninja Blade / Ninjutsu Stalker might also work but I'd rather have a Katana/WP or Katana/SR Scrapper personally.
Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool)
