Brute vs Tanker Dark Armor

Posted

In the category of Dark Armor can both brutes cap smash/lethal/psychic resistance with incarnate that does 20% resistance?

I can't decide which of the two to make. Just want something that can be a beast but not ugly.

THanks.

Neither can, not even with Tough. 6-slot Obsidian Shield on a Tanker with Cardiac Core and you will be at 85%, but S/L can't even reach 80% with Dark Embrace and Tough 6-slotted.

First of all, are you talking the Alpha Slot Cardiac Core Paragon?

Brutes, without using IOs, will always have 25% less dmg resistance/defense then the equivalent Tank because of modifiers. Without outside buffs, Brutes won't get to the s/l resist cap, Tanks will get closer.

My Dark Tank will sit around 76% S/L and 85% Psi resistance with the Cardiac Core Paragon. (This toon is IO'd, but not specifically for +resistance) This tank is using Tough to get the s/l numbers that high.
An equivalent Dark brute would be hard pressed to achieve those resistance numbers, again, without outside buffs.

I've got 90% psi resist on my Tanker thanks to Cardiac and two or three Impervium Armor globals, but I haven't any Smethal resistance above that granted by Dark Embrace.

Even with Tough, I don't think you're going to get those anywhere close to the hard cap.

Tank build with 89.8% Smashing/Lethal, 90% Psi, 31%+ defense to all. Barrier Core will add a minimum of 6% resistance and 5% defense to all with Cardiac for 2 minutes, with a 2 minute recharge. Throw in a 2200 point heal from Dark Regeneration every 10 seconds with just 2 targets available and no endurance issues (Dark Regeneration reliably FILLS endurance with the procs).

Let me be the first to say this before Dechs gets to this thread, Dark Armor sucks. That is all.

Question: Does the panacea proc in Dark Regen check per enemy hit or per activation? Also, what about the endurance consumption vs gain of Dark Regen with only one target slotted like that? I have a hard time believing it will fill your endurance with only a couple of mobs, much less one.

Panacea proc only checks per activation. Theft of Essence checks per target.

You get a 20% of 10% endurance returned to you per target hit. For simplicity sake, let's assume you've only got 100 max endurance. Dark Regeneration costs 33 endurance, average slotting I would assume is around 20 endurance per use (very conservative, most people would slot more or Cardiac).

Against one target, you get an average return of 2 endurance (20% * 10 end). So sometimes it costs you 20 endurance, sometimes it only costs you 10. On average, you're spending 18 endurance if you only use Dark Regen against one target. That doesn't sound phenomenal by a long stretch.

With ten targets in range, the average return is ten times that, or 20 endurance, since each event is independent. If you slot better than what I assumed as average endurance reduction and have the theft of Essence proc, on average, Dark Regen will return more endurance to you than it costs if used in a full mob. There are times it will fill your endurance bar. There are also times where it won't fire at all.
