Why did you have to change...

This new CoH Freedom business is confusing the hell out of me. As if it's not enough that we've got a myriad of differant "Merits" and "Points" already, now this premium/VIP thing is just ARRGGHWGWGWRGUIWNFNSKLNFLN

What a cluster-f***.

Alright. I just want to know one thing: Can I just slap 15 clams on this game every month and ignore the changes? Because I have a ton of characters and stuff, and I don't want to lose access to them because Paragon decided to adopt a psychotic payment system. I don't even care about the shuiney new costume parts anymore. I JUST WANT TO PLAY THE D*MN GAME THE WAY I ALWAYS HAVE!!

Why did you have to change? What we had was perfect. Now you're making me want to start seeing other MMOs...

Just thinking about having to navigate this microtransaction crap and it's effects on my characters is enough to frustrate and depress me.

Yes

Although that won't totally ignore the changes

Yes and no. In theory you can just keep paying your $15 and ignore the changes. However, part of the change is that your $15 will now give you 400 Paragon Points per month and Paragon Reward stuff.

You can, if you choose to, completely ignore that and let them accumulate but if you do then you are, essentially, missing out on a part of what your subscription offers. My hunch is that the devs are making decisions on how to divvy up content/costumes/etc. between Free/Premium/VIP based partly on the assumption that VIP players will use their free Paragon Points to buy a portion of the Premium content released in that month.

Okay, so...$15 a month gets me the same thing it does now, plus some other stuff like (another) ingame currency.

I can deal with that.

Quite!

For your current subscription Fee, you become a VIP Member of the game. This entitles you to:

A stipend of 400 Paragon Points a month (Worth $5)
A Character Server Transfer Token a month (Worth $10, stacks with others)
Access to each month's Signature Story Arc (Worth $5)
Access to the VIP server
1 Paragon Reward Token for each month of Subscription, that can be used to unlock things from the system replacing Veteran Rewards.
Live Chat Support from the NCSoft Customer Support Team
And everything you currently have access to in the game.

From this month, you will get 400 Paragon Points per month of subscription, that will become available to you when City of Heroes: Freedom launches (So if it launches in September, you'll have 1200 points to play with (Depending on when your billing date falls) and then 400 each month afterwards). You can use this on the in game store to buy whatever takes your fancy, and if you see some things you'd like, you could either wait till you have the points for it, or throw $5 or more at the store to get some points to buy things with.

In essence: You'll be getting a whole lot more bang for your $15/month.

Paragon Points aren't in-game currency, at least not in the way you're describing. They're not the same as Merits, Tickets, Shards, Threads, or anything else that you use in-game. They're tied to your account and are used for global unlocks.
