IO Suggestions for my fire/kin Corurptor?

Hello,

I don't play the game often anymore, and have never really gotten into the invention system. Despite not playing often, I just recently got a character to level 50 who I completely enjoy playing after all of that time. I've decided to make my fire/kin Corrupter my character for incarnate task forces for now, but am very unfamiliar with crafted enhancements. Since I'm going to be taking her on very hard task forces and I still really enjoy playing her, I've decided that I want to make this character as strong as she can be by using Invention enhancements. I've got about 200 million to 300 million between all of my characters, and I'm probably willing to spend most of that to make this character stronger, I just have no idea of what to use. I'm also interested in critique on my character's build.

Here's my character's build right now:

-Fire Blast-

Fire Blast: 1 acc, 3 dmg
Fire Ball: 1 acc, 3 dmg
Rain of Fire: 1 acc, 3 dmg
Fire Breath: 1 acc, 3 dmg
Blaze: 1 acc, 3 dmg
Blazing Bolt:1 acc, 3 dmg, 2 decrease interrupt time
Aim: 3 to hit, 3 recharge
Inferno: 3 accuracy, 3 recharge

-Kinetics-

Transfusion: 2 acc, 2 heal, 2 reacharge
Siphon Power: 1 acc
Siphon Speed: 2 acc, 2 recharge
Increase Density: 1 resistance
Speed Boost: 1 endurance modification
Repel: 1 recharge
Transference: 1 acc, 2 endurance modification, 3 recharge
Fulcrum Shift: 3 acc, 3 recharge

-Inherent Fitness-

Swift: 1 run speed
Hurdle: 1 jump
Health: 1 heal
Stamina: 3 endurance modification

-Flight-

Fly: 1 flight
Hover: 2 defense

-Leadership-

Maneuvers: 2 defense
Tactics: 3 to hit
Vengeance: 2 defense, 2 to hit

-Psychic Mastery-

Dominate: 2 acc, 2 hold, 2 recharge
Mass Hypnosis: 3 recharge, 1 acc
Mind Over Body: 3 resistance

I'm willing to respec, and I'm interested in build suggestions. I'm also very interested in any advice people can give me on which IO sets to buy and how to use them the best way I can.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I'm no expert at all, but you need more slots in attacks for IO bonuses.

I would dump the 3 extra slots in Vengeance and the 3 to hits in Aim.

Does Fulcrum Shift need 3 Accuracy?

tl;dr - Frankenslot to start off and slowly work towards a set bonus build.

Since you have a more limited budget, I would recommend frankenslotting your build. This entails mixing common IOs with set IOs that enhance multiple attributes to get the most out of your powers. For the set IOs in this method you don't need to worry about bonuses unless you can get them within your budget. You just want what you can afford and can use. For your attacks you want to try to focus on dmg/endredux/rech and enough acc for you to hit things. Transfusion is the same, except enhancing heal instead of dmg. for Transference you want endmod/rech with enough acc to hit as its has a cheap base end cost.

For your posted build, change your slotting for fulcrum shift to the same as siphon speed. That will give you 2 more slots to play with. You could also change the defense in Hover to fly speed. Fly is already capped nowadays, so just put an endredux in it. Stamina you can get by with just 2 common endmod IOs (put the 3rd slot in health). For your leadership toggles, try 4 slotting each with 1-2 endredux and 2-3 def/tohit. Vengeance you can leave with the base slot for a defense IO or an Adjusted Targetting: Rech IO, which will reduce its recharge even though it doesn't accept recharge enhancements.

Get Hasten.

Are you sticking with Psi mastery for your Epic? I play my grav/kin troller rather insanely (staying close to melee to cap my own damage) so I like the idea of getting thunderstrike from elec. mastery. Flying in the middle of a mob > FS > Thunderstike is sounds suicidal but fun.

Lastly, while frankenslotting your build will get you into the endgame stuff and make it easier than an SO build, what are your aspirations with this character? You don't have the budget for a true top-end build, but if you're patient and work towards it you can build it up over time. I helped a friend rebuild his fire/kin corr and he went with a bit of recharge and range defense. You can't softcap it because of kinetics' lack of set IOs, but you can reliably hit 32.5% which lets you softcap with a small luck. Combining that with hover will make you very survivable. Extra global recharge means your powers come back quicker (and more stacking of Siphon Speed for more recharge!).

This would be what I'd go for, soft cap Smash/Lethal and about 70% base recharge. This is a fairly expensive build but not outlandishly so. The primary expense is from the LotGs, but they are worth it.

Basically you want to have as much recharge as possible to power fulcrum shift. With this level of recharge it is possible to triple stack it and you only need 1.5 siphon speeds to get perma-hasten.

Kinetics is like pure recharge plus enough defense to survive. Your favorite place is in melee range.

Good choices for upgrading is a Decimation -> Apocalypse and Positron -> Ragnarok as they provide the same set bonuses, though this would add about a billion plus more inf each to the cost.

Aegis is (was?) bugged and doesn't work in increase density. I keep it in the vain hope that it gets fixed at some point. Status effects will wreck you, so anything you can do to avoid them is what you want.

No attempt was made for exemplar friendliness. The whole point of Kinetics is to turn you and the players into steamrolling juggernauts. Jump into the pack, wait for a melee (or not, especially if they are timid) and fulcrum -> AoE. If any one else is with you hopefully they follow suit and can partake in the glory of the damage cap.

Still sad about the Ion bug being fixed. It was fun seeing 10K+ hits with that thing.

Haha. When I was playing my grav/kin fulltime (my first toon, after all) I was always the first into a spawn. Mainly because I was always the fastest on the team from triple stacked siphon speed. I would try to wait on at least the tank, but they were always too slow. I'd get there, wormhole>CF>FS>Fireball and half the spawn would be dead (this was before the changes to containment were made).

This set concept focuses on fast and accurate attacking. So far, people seem to think that I should include a lot more defense in it. If you have suggestions on how to do that and whether I should, or any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them! I'm also interested in any suggestions on how I could use the Incarnate alpha slot to help balance a final build.

As you can see, I'm considering getting rid of Vengance for stealth. By combining Stealth with a stealth IO in Fly, I could sneak up on a group of enemies and fulcrum shift them as soon as the group got there rather than trying to do it once things are already going on, while not drawing as much agro. If this seems like a bad idea, I'd love to hear about it.

That's... different.

The purple set is going to be ridiculously expensive so I wouldn't grab Psychic Mastery just to have a place to put a (cheaper) purple set just because it's purple. Also you appear to be going way overboard with the accuracy. Even against +4 you don't need that much.

Defense only really exists in a few (useful) ways, the primary for any ranged class is Ranged defense which is impractical to reach the soft cap on. For Kinetics you can use S/L because you are going to be in close a lot and this is significantly easier to do via Mace mastery's Scorpion Shield.

Any defense is good in general, however a smattering of random defense is going to be a lot less useful then a very focused build on one or the other type of defense. You don't want to mix types if possible as well (damage types and positions). Defense only works with the best value of all the incoming damage so if you have 10% S/L and 6% ranged against a lethal ranged attack, the only thing benefiting you is the 10% S/L.

I don't really know what you want to go for in this build. I would suggest you try out cheaper options that do similar things to see how well it fares and adjust to fit your playstyle. You get 3 respecs from the trials, one from the villain power pool unlock arc plus any new issue respecs. Look around at the various things and try cheap options to see what you like and what you need more of and then start filling in the holes where possible. You'll get a decent number of chances.

Kismet +6% Accuracy (actually tohit) is incredibly powerful. That one IO by itself will replace a huge amount of accuracy and it applies to everything.

Steadfast Protection +3% defense and -Knockback are similar defensive IOs that are well worth the investment. These ones are good starting points to build on.

Aegis status protection is broken in Increase Density. It won't work.

I would also monitor how often you actually use the sniper attack. It is a very easy candidate in my playstyle to avoid since there is no benefit to staying back. Personal preference however.

Hansha, I ran a build like this before on my beloved Fire/Kin corr. Please believe me when I say that Psychic Mastery, while sort of fun, REALLY slows down how monstrous and amazing a killer that a a Fire/Kin can be. You won't need the stealth if you have your Smashing/Lethal defense softcapped, and a lot of the time it's beneficial to let the tanker group mobs up before letting loose with Fulcrum Shift. I have a SS/Stone Brute friend I duo with regularly on my Fire/Kin. With our damage, my buffs/healing, and his grouping/invincibility/mitigation from foot Stomp, we've duo'd a whole lot of Strike Forces.

Here's the build that a friend and I are using. It isn't super expensive, but you hit the S/L softcap (45% defense) and the damage/recharge are significantly upgraded. It works by putting either universal (boost all defense) or S/L defense IO bonuses into your powers. It also has 180% Recovery, 285% Regen, and 72.5% Recharge.

Some of the power choices for the softcap might look odd, but it's a strong and effective build. I find that having a slightly pricey build give me something to work towards, especially because it isn't terribly hard to make money in this game if you work the Markets, run TFs for merits (to exchange for LotG: Recharge recipes, which sell for 150 mil on the market), and go full hero/villain alignment for the Hero/Villain merits you can get every two days. In four days, after getting two merits, one can use them to purchase a LotG: Recharge recipe (ka-ching!).

Right now I run two characters, a hero and a villain both at 50, through their tips every day just before bed. That's 300 mil every four days. In two weeks you'll have a billion influence from doing this alone, not counting any rare drops you get while running through the missions. I usually end up accumulating 150 Merits at some point and then using them to buy a LotG: Recharge when I remember to.

Getting your LotG: Recharges this way will also save you from having to buy them. You'll have so many of the things on hand that you can use them as toilet paper when you run out.

As for Choosing your incarnate powers, I wholeheartedly suggest the following, for the following reasons:

-Spiritual Alpha for boosting recharge and healing in your powers. Recharge in king for a Fire/Kin. It helps you keep piling on Fulcrum Shift to increase your damage and weaken enemies, as well as unleashing lots of amped up fiery doom.

-Reactive Integration (This is a proc that provides Fire DoT and -Resistance debuffs) in order to further add to your damage. This power makes Rain of Fire and Fireball MUCH stronger. I'd work more towards the DoT side rather than the -Res side when crafting up the tree because enemies don't have much Fire resistance in general, but it's still useful when fighting CoT demons and AVs and things.

An alternative would be Diamagnetic, which can lower enemy ToHit, making them less likely to breach your defense. I strongly recommend Reactive, however.

-For Destiny, I strongly recommend that you flip a coin between Clarion or Barrier.

Clarion gives you much-needed mez protection. While having S/L softcapped means that a tray full of break frees is usually enough, I don't like seeing my character mezzed, or having to stop to us the darn things. At Tier 4 ("Very Rare") Clarion's effect can be made permanent, though this power's effects weaken over time until the next cycle renews the buff.

Barrier is a significant buff to your Resistance and Defense. This is one of the best emergency buttons in the game, but it can also be made Perma at Tier 4 and provide a moderate defense boost at all times.

-Judgment is your call, but I would pick either Pyronic or Ionic. Both are ranged and seem to hit a lot of enemies. If you want a replacement for Inferno (my IO build cuts it out), Void is the same thing, only with a more rare damage type and a Damage debuff. I personally went Pyronic so that my Judgment power matches my primary.

-Lore doesn't much matter in terms of making large contributions to how well a character performs. I chose Storm Elementals for my Fire/Kin because I think they look cool and I wanted pets that could fly. Warworks Bots are sturdy and give good damage while they're up (Lore has a fifteen minute cooldown). Seers are good ranged pets, and they can do some nice healing/buffing if you go the support route.

Hope this helps!

Too many alts to list.

By combining Stealth with a stealth IO in Fly, I could sneak up on a group of enemies and fulcrum shift them as soon as the group got there rather than trying to do it once things are already going on, while not drawing as much agro. If this seems like a bad idea, I'd love to hear about it.
I'm unable to view mids atm, so I can't comment on the build overall, but I do want to answer your specific question above about stealth. No, it's not a bad idea. Not just for the Fulcrum Shifting, but because of the value of being able to run around mobs without taking any fire at all. All of my characters are pve invisible, except some meleers that just use a stealth IO. Squishies though, are all invis.

Thanks for all of the new advice! I'll incorporate it into a new build tonight, but I thought that I would post a few responses.

I'm glad to see that I shouldn't be raising my accuracy that much. I would really like to have more smashing and lethal defense as I do tend to die really fast as soon as anything notices me, and since I do a lot of damage, that happens a lot.

I'll think about getting rid of Psychic Mastery, but I'd really like to keep it. I'm not just adding it for the set bonus in Mass Hypnosis, I've actually had that set on her at level 50 for a long time. I like that when the team is moving fast I can sleep every other group and position myself for Fulcrum Shift while the team is moving in. Also, the Psychic Mastery set works pretty well thematically since my character is a Succubus. I would like to have Scorpion Shield, though.

Mr_Grumpums, I like a lot of your incarnate suggestions. Maybe while dropping a lot of my slotting for accuracy and recharge bonuses in favor of defense, I could recover some of that recharge slotting with Spiritual Alpha and some of the accuracy with To Hit bonuses and a little accuracy bonus slotting.

Thank you so far for the suggestions, everyone! I'll post a new build tonight sometime for more suggestions based on my changes.

Here's an S/L softcapped Fire/Kin with Perma Hasten assuming you're running 1 Siphon Speed. For incarnate I'd go for Spiritual Alpha/Reactive Radial/Barrier Core/Pyronic Radial/Whatever Lore

I've read the suggestions people posted, and tried to integrate them into some new build ideas. I've come up with two possible ideas based on the suggestions:

Build 1:

This one keeps some of my character's personality (which is very important to my fun with her) while trying to add to her defense and keep high recharge and accuracy. I'm considering taking out a little more power later to make her feel more like the personality and creativity of the character I like playing.

This build has about half of the smashing and lethal defense of the other one, but has almost 50% smashing and lethal resistance on top of the 20ish% smashing and lethal defense it has.

Build 2:

This is more of a "power gaming" build. I would be more likely to add this as a second build later for when I felt more like playing for power than just for fun.

Instead of S/L defense, can someone post a build that has high ranged defense? Seems like in the Incarnate trials there's a whole lot less S/L damage. Or is my impression wrong?

The iTrials have higher amounts of energy damage and the ranged attacks are usually pure energy - so no smash/lethal component to them. There's still plenty of s/l, but it is mostly in melee form.

Here's a high range+hover build. It is and it isn't softcapped. By that I mean that while you're running around not attacking or getting hit, you'll be at 45% range defense, but once Stealth gets suppressed you'll drop down to about 42%.

That said, I have an Arch/Dev blaster that is built just like this with the range defense+hover @ 42-43% defense and he does fine, even on the iTrials with just 1 level shift from the Alpha slot. I should note that this build does not have Hasten. My blaster doesn't, either, but I was able to get more recharge into his build than this one (mainly because /kin isn't very beneficial for set bonuses). You could also sacrifice a couple slots and 6 slot siphon speed with a slow set to officially softcap the build, but the slow set lacks decent recharge, which siphon speed desperately craves.

For the debate between s/l and range defense on a /kin I will have to say go for range if you're going be teaming and s/l if you solo more. Reason being that you only have to get into melee just long enough to get saturated with FS. Then you can back off to the edge of Transfusion's radius, which is outside melee, and attack from there and still buff yourself and your team.

Getting s/l defense is indeed much easier to accomplish and you can do so with a lot more recharge than you can get with a range defense build. However, a range defense/hover build is going to be overall safer because you're also protecting yourself from attacks that can mez you, which are mostly ranged attacks. Any melee/aoe attacks that have a mez should rarely hit you if you keep your distance, too.
