To commemorate the release of the first Avenger to the silver screen later in the month, join C.A.P.E. for commemorative Golden/Silver Age costume contest!

The Golden Age
The Golden Age of Comic Books was a period in the history of American comic books, generally thought of as lasting from the late 1930s until the late 1940s or early 1950s. During this time, modern comic books were first published and enjoyed a surge of popularity; the archetype of the superhero was created and defined; and many of the most famous superheroes debuted, among them Superman, Batman, Captain America, Wonder Woman, and Captain Marvel.

More detailed information on the Golden Age can be found here: Golden Age of Comics

The Silver Age
The Silver Age of Comic Books was a period of artistic advancement and commercial success in mainstream American comic books, predominantly those in the superhero genre. Following the Golden Age of Comic Books and an interregnum in the early to mid-1950s, the Silver Age is considered to cover the period from 1956 to circa 1970, and was succeeded by the Bronze and Modern Ages.

More detailed information on the Silver Age can be found here: Silver Age of Comics

Rules:
-One Entry Per Server.
-Age of Heroes takes place at Williams Square.
-No late entries accepted.

Judging Details:
-A panel of judges will be chosen by Myrmydon to judge this event. Participants are urged to utilize costume choices, emotes, and auras in representing the Age of Heroes.

-Powers Usage is limited: We understand that Issue 16 has brought with it a variety of power customization opportunities however we have found that powers can affect other players unintentionally and can also diffuse attention away from other character components. We would prefer players limit their use of powers and utilize them for Aura purposes.
-Be very careful in your power choices and avoid overusing multiple powers.
-Powers that affect other players will result in automatic disqualification from the event.
-Please contact a C.A.P.E. Representative if you have any questions about judging details.

Prizes:

Golden Age

1st Place: 500 Million INF
2nd Place: 300 Million INF
3rd Place: 100 Million INF

So is it strictly costume or are you looking at power selections as well? For instance, Captain America's attributes/skills fits a martial arts/super reflexes scrapper, however, one could go martial arts/shield defense to bring attention to his shields capabilities such as its inability to be penetrated (so wanted to insert someone's name here but for fear of being considered uncooth I won't). Thoughts Myrm?

Strictly costumes. Also, the costumes don't have to mimic any particular character, they just have to fit the period. SD would help to showcase a shield for a costume.

This event sounds like a lot of fun, I'd love to attend. Though I'll probably be entering as 'golden age,' I was wondering what you were holding as the difference between golden and silver age costumes?

The two links in my original post above can provide plenty of info.

Heh. I know the history of the periods. Perhaps it's just me, but the aesthetics of the more iconic heroes is quite similar in approach between the two periods. (tights, with simple/bright color schemes, sometimes capes, boots, gloves, sometimes briefs, large chest emblems, etc.) I was just wondering what distinction was being set.

The best representation of the Golden Age would be the Justice Society members the Flash and Green lantern and the Silver Age would be the second versions of those characters.

Fair enough. I guess I'm just looking too much at the "bigger picture" comparing the overall aesthetic approach. Which is admittedly hard to define, especially when not doing an 'inspired by' or 'homage' character. Thanks, I hope to see what folks whip up for the event!

I asked GM Zwillinger in a PM to join the event not sure if he'll make it due to scheduling.

Gold titles for everyone participating would be a good addition, actually.

For those of you asking, yes, this will be one big combined contest. You can either win in Golden Age or Silver Age categories, but not both.

No worries. I am considering making this a bi-monthy or quarterly event, so there will be more chances.

C.A.P.E has more events planned in the coming months and we would like to invite anyone that has ina interest in this to stop by and give us a yell. We would also like to encourage anyone with any player event ideas of their own to come by and see if we can provide any support needed to make them happen.
