Earth/ what?!

I have two concepts:

1: A volcanic island protector who can also wield water to a degree earth/fire/levi
2: Diamonds, a character who is able to create diamonds in any shape and form earth/thorn/ice.

Earth/thorns looks as though there are almost too many powers if that makes sense.

Which do you think will work better? What could be improved upon etc

From a functional perspective, Earth/Fire is better I think. The pairing of maximum AoE control with maximum AoE damage. And the -def of /Thorns is rather wasted given how much -def Earth/ already puts out.

I found both capable of producing very good AoE. In fact I think /Thorny has more AoE. Even so /Fire's damage output is tough to beat.

The main difference is that /Thorny's AoEs are primarily delivered at a closer ranges and the animations are a bit longer. /Fire can be successfully played at purely long ranges if desired.

In my mind it comes down to a question of playstyle and a tolerance for redraw. The playstyle contrast would be Mid range to Melee (Earth/Thorny) vs. Long range with the option of playing melee (Earth/Fire). The safety Earth/ provides can feasibly support both playstyles.

Best of luck with your decision!

<EDIT>

I forgot to mention that I ended up rerolling my Earth/Thorny (as a Ice/Thorny and an Earth/Fire) not because it sucked but because I also thought the -DEF was overkill as OB points out. I also found my playstyle conflicted. For me Earth/ seems to favor a longer ranged playstyle while /Thorny favors a closer range playstyle. YMMV

Fire... roll it.... take Fire Epic pool.. run amok.. destroy.. kill skuls... have fun..

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

I had a Plant/Thorn and deleted it at 35. The redraw bugged me (I know it doesn't really matter in practical terms, but we all have our quirks).

I have an Earth/Fire/Fire dom and really like it. No real downside to it: it wasn't too hard to make perma dom. I didn't bother with high defenses; when everything is locked down, slowed, or bouncing around on the ground, while being burnt to a crisp, they don't have much opportunity to shoot back at you.
