I create one message that includes all the applicable information; and then send that message out to everyone not on team on the search list in the correct level range.

The problem comes when that doesn't work. When after sending out tells to 10 or even 20 people and you still only have four people on your team It is then that building a team requires real effort. It is at that point that building a team switches from being a relatively easy exercise that was not detracting from your relaxation, to one of real work. You hit up the global channels, then you ask in the broadcast and in request chat, then you get desperate and ask in Help chat. All of which require a new message that still contains all the pertinent information, as well as other Information clarifying which side Of the game you are on and the teams level range. That is what I have always considered to be the real meat and potatoes of building a team.
I would also like to add that the most common justification for "server merges plz" posts are "I can't find a team". While the forum posters are usually good about rattling off that series of methods or something similar, the fact remains that these are all workarounds for the lack of a good team finding tool. EDIT: Perhaps if we had better auto-teaming tools, people would be less likely to come to the forums to ask for server mergers because "they can't find a team". Wouldn't that be something worthwhile?

I mean, certainly in a game that lacks an Auction House or equivalent, it's quite *viable* for the playerbase to decide on one central location where all players would go to spam up Trade chat with "WTS this, WTB that" until someone is interested, I don't think anyone would respond to the idea of an Auction House with "that's not really needed, we already have [Trade Hub], just go there and spam WTB until you get what you want".

I'd say that an Auction House style things would fit different needs than an auto-teaming system. Namely, out of game (logged out) transactions and not needing to remain in one zone. No one is teaming while logged out and global channels/LFG window/Tells make it unnecessary to stay on the Steel Canyon map while looking for a team.

That said, you have people in other MMORPGs who pine for the days of sitting in a tunnel and spamming "WTS Battleaxe of the Wacky Marmoset 3k!" over and over because they felt it was more social and realistic. Takes all kinds, I guess.

I'll second this. Global channels (the method usualy tossed out) can help a great deal but they aren't obvious. Anyone new to the game won't know about them and as I alt a great deal they can be tough to keep up with (they die, people move to another one, etc.). Personally I think they just add to the problem in some ways - we're told "it's not easy to see people because this is a game with instances in it" and yet I feel they just add more instances. We need something more universal and direct.
