My fire armor/stone melee (tank, not brute, but whatever) is basically 'volcano chick'. Latent mutant powers, caught in an eruption, etc, etc, typical cheesy superhero background. IMO something having to do with lava in some way is one of the most obvious choices, since lava is basically the combination of the two sets.

None of these particularly help me.
I used a huge model, made him look like a thug/punker, gave him a derby hat and called him "Brimstone Seamus"
And there he sits, at lvl 8 or so, untouched for a very long time.
Lessee. Molten glass would work, especially since /FA has a glass jaw. You can also do things with molten metal: gold, lead, etc. Keeping with the metal/fire idea, steam power also goes with it. Nemesis, locomotives, or any steampunk concept you want to work with.
Lava is an obvious direction to go: volcanoes, demons, earth/fire elementals.
/FA lends itself to being recolored as smoke or fumes; there's potential for a poisonous concept here. Sulfur, uranium, arsenic, mercury, etc.
Hopefully that gets something started for you.
I made mine an Efreeti. The molten lava clubs lend themselves perfectly to the concept.
Following on from Cryptics mangling of Gaelic mythology (but I'm allowed because (a) I'm Irish and (b) I researched it in college for a project) I made mine a Tuatha De Danann spirit/god (with a little g, a small god) called Crom Cruaich.
[insert story about sacred magical stone being brought to the Isles from Croatoa and vengeful ancient Spirit being released etc here]
Legacy is a good choice too, given that they're active in the Isles and have elemental powers, you could either be a Legacy member or something they summoned which escaped.
What is a good concept for Stone/Fire Brute? I was playing with a Legacy Chain hero sorta thing.
I know SM/FA is relatively popular...So what are the concepts out there?
