Tips on SS/FA/Soul

trying to make a build (cost no object) for my new SS/FA Praetorian counterpart to my namesake.

So far enjoying the ride a lot! The alternate animations for Punch and Knockout Blow just make me love the set more, when I go about punching everything in sight.

However, when making the build, I'm trying to obtain the Gloom - Haymaker - KOB - Gloom - Haymaker - Burn - repeat chain for all the DPS I can to take on AVs, while having the defense to survive them.

What amount of defense should I be shooting for?

Here's a really rough build so far, with all the powers I want to fit in (Temp Protection isn't needed, but I like the idea of added Slow Resist). Soul Tentacles is for concept over anything else, and if I could have, I would of fitted Hand Clap in for concept (never likely to use though).

The sweet spots for defense are 20%, 32.5%, and 45%. Those are in order of number of small inspirations needed to hit the soft cap, from most to least. Obviously 45% would cost you more recharge than you want to give up. Hitting 32.5% in one category is possible, but you would probably have to give up the mentioned attack chain to hit 32.5% in two categories (S/L and E/N preferably). If you manage to pull off that kind of build and still run the top attack chain seamlessly, I would love to see it.

I went with 20% to all positions on my SS/FA so I could fit in as much DPS as possible. It isn't enough for some people, but I'm used to an inspiration-popping playstyle.

I have no problem using inspirations, in fact, I use them on everything except when I try to solo Pylons/AVs.

Okay, for surviving AVs with nothing more than the Alpha Slot in mind, whether it be solo or on a team with no team buffs, how much defense is needed to keep standing against one with the resists and self heal factored in?

I'm using this atm, not sure how good it is. Its very endo costy but I run pretty much with a Kin all the time.

Okay, here's my new build so far. Still want to beable to survive AVs with nothing more than possibly the Alpha Slot in play and without Inspiration use. Not sure if this is enough +Def with enough +HP to do such things.

Now with the Interface in use, possibly. Went for the -tohit/-regen (yes I know I can switch them out...but meh to that...so went with one not seen in much use...or so it seems Reactive is the popular choice). If it's enough -tohit maybe it can make a difference, I'm sure it can't hurt survival any.

Destiny I went with Ageless. I THINK with the use of consume and as long as it doesn't miss, I'm okay on END (I THINK) but Ageless's +RCH seems like it would benefit HF while obtaining a gapless Gloom-Haymaker-KoB-Gloom-Haymaker-Burn attack chain (that said with the gaps with the Alpha in use, I should still be doing over 210 DPS (and this isn't factoring in Fiery Embrace).

I'm also considering taking some +RCH from set bonuses out of the build, increasing some gaps in the DPS chain, for additional survival, as I may beable to pull off enough DPS for AVs without a gapless chain (unsure on this)

Experience with my fire/fire scrap suggests this will be adequate defense for a pylon, think you'll need insps for AVs but I'm not sure.

Why not Darkest Night? Unsloted its steady 10% -tohit and 20% -dmg, its huge on AVs/GMs (and actually quite amazing on tough packs since its even AoE, not to mention is a super herd tool).

I have to have Hurl, as well, it's fun to use! You tear your fingers into the ground and pull out a chunk of it and throw it at someone! How can you pick SS and not pick this power up?!

I've seen 5 SS/ Brutes recently who didn't have it!

Soul Tentacles...again...who doesn't want to ensnare people in oily black gooey latez like substance?! So had to go in there for concept!

I can try. This build, running T4 Cardiac, can run G>HM>KO>G>HM>B seamlessly. Recharge isn't absolutely perfect; you'll have to run one cycle of G>HM>KO>filler>G>HM>KO>filler after Hasten ends and the Rage crash wears off before Hasten comes back up. Endurance is pretty good; my napkin math for platonic ideal play puts you out of end at the 3:30 mark, so I'd expect to last at least three if you don't downshift your attack chain ever.

With a single stack of Rage, 75% average Fury, and an enemy polite enough to stand still for a full Burn, more napkin math puts it at ~188 single-target DPS, before Reactive or the Widow.

Here's my SS/FA/Soul build, a pretty cheap one by my standards: I made the toon to goof off with on my wife's server and didn't want to spend a lot of resources on it.

Nevertheless it did 250ish dps in a pylon test running G > H > B > G > H > KO. If I wanted more dps I'd slot Apocs in Gloom (all but Damage, and keeping Decimation proc) and think about a Fury of the Gladiator proc in Burn. (Though that would cost a little S/L defense). Those two changes would boost damage output quite substantially.

With just 34% S/L defense, it soloed Chimera and Marauder no temps no insps, no problem, but those are pretty easy S/L AVs. I just wanted to knock out a couple for the lulz. If you wanted to make a specialized AV soloist, you probably need E/N defense as well. And probably you'd want higher numbers, too. Having Gloom as part of your attack chain lets you aim for a bit short of the softcaps though.

This toon farms pretty well also, and contributes well on TFs and such.

Possible chain: KO Blow > Gloom > Haymaker > Burn > Gloom > Haymaker.

5 Piece Apocalype including Proc in Gloom
5 Piece Hecatomb including Proc in Haymaker
5 Piece Armageddon including Proc in Burn + Fury of the Glad Proc -20% Resistance

Gloom probably requires around 230%~250% Recharge to run that seamlessly - although I haven't worked out the numbers.

Sounds about right. If you took my build as a jumping off point and did the above, you'd be closing in on 300dps I think.

Problem is, you'd lose a bit of S/L defense. And would need to get it back so you could maintain output without Healing Flames. At a minimum you'd have to give up the Force Feedback proc in Stomp for the last Oblit piece; and ideally you'd try to work in a Gladiator's Armor 3% piece.
