Hero VS Villain City

Hello, i'm here to suggest a Hero VS Villain idea which is similar to what we have now, but with a different environonment.

Everytime i go to siren's call or warburg, i feel that even though the zone is a PVP zone, it looks too much like it. What about City shared between heroes and villains, with general contacts and missions, like the ones we could find at PVE zones, but where PVP between heroes and villains is ON? What i'm suggesting is a PVE "natural" city where villains can attack heroes, without the zone feeling too much like a PVP zone. With bounties and PVP objectives on and making it not feel natural

The main problem with this is that there are just not very many PvPers in the game anymore. Open PvP is an idea that comes up all the time and it gets shot down over and over again. Adding more PvP zones will just spread out the PvPers and do nothing to get more people to try it. 90% of the player base (no one knows for sure but most figure the PvP population is under 10%) doesn't want to PvP. The entire PvP system was redone to try and get more people in the PvP zones. It didn't work. All that happened was we lost more of the PvP population because the new system was broken in different ways.

At this point in the games life, it's just not worth the cost to try and rebuild PvP again.

How about a city like Recluse's Victory (IE one that changes) based on the missions the heroes and villains do? No pvp involved, just dueling pve for some reward.

The only open PvP I'd support would be if it was on a seperate server so I can be free to enjoy PvE without some jacktard harassing me. I have better things to do than wasting my time petitioning and /gignoring morons that can't take no for an answer.

This right here is why I don't even bother with the PvP. You have the builds that are PvP only which crush my mission oriented PvE characters, and I just don't care to play that game anyway.

I would *love* to explore those zones more, play them as the rest of the maps, but they just weren't worth the expenditure of grief. I actually *like* Siren's Call as a map, for example, and hunting in it is fun, but I don't want to deal with the uber PvP build screwin' with my hunting. So I'm out.

Which is why this idea won't fly: Unless it's totally a cooperative zone, or at least "don't bother me, I won't bother you" like in Praetoria with the Yellow targets, with the interesting twist of there's no damage unless *both* parties attack each other.

That I could at least deal with: "Oh, verily, thou hast struck me, but I choose rightly to turn the other cheek towards you, and as such, my saintlyness grants me Damage Protection of the Highest Order. Flail away, dear sir, if thou must, and enjoyest thineself to thine fullest. I am off to hunt Spiders."

Unless I felt cheeky, then it'd be "Wouldst thou be wailing upon me? Have at thee!", at which point, both combatants can damage each other until one falls, then it resets.

/That would be Greunfeld speaking.
//Who would likely be the falling one, not PvP, after all.

The results in the PvE zone should be able to be felt throughout the city so more are encouraged to do something. It would help show that heroes/Villains are the enemy.

Having other people's actions affect my gaming experience when I never even see or interact them is a really fast way to get me to find another game, as is putting in a system that I have to participate in for fear of consequences. PvP was done the way it was done because the development team knew full well that a large portion of the community not only had no interest in participating, but were violently opposed to being dragged into PvP, which is why it was made into a separate game. As well it should be. I really cannot complain about a system that's cordoned off where I don't have to see it unless I specifically go look.

Pretty much this.

If I want to PvP, I will go PvP. And I actually do occasionally.

I do NOT want my PvE game affected by people PvPing when I choose not to participate in it.

PvP is set up the way it is for a reason. It is just not that popular among this game's players. It was changed in an attempt to try and entice people in, it didn't work even a little bit.

What do you think is going to happen if you try to FORCE those people to PvP because of the consequences in their PvE game if they don't?

I can tell you what will happen: A mass exodus to another game.

If people don't want to PvP, it's a very safe bet they don't want their PvE ruined by PvP they have no interest in either.

Yeah. In my opinion, open global PvP is an idea that sounds like it'd be cool on paper, but in practice it'd suck badly.

It's really the human element that's the problem; on paper it's easy to expect human players to behave a certain way and show a modicum of courtesy when given a wide berth ... but if there's a way to abuse or pervert the intent of a system, someone will do it.

While there may be many people who are curteous, it just takes a few bad apples to spoil the whole bunch, and PvP culture across all games has a vocal minority of jerks who want nothing more than to ruin someone's gaming experience. Open PvP is like their meal ticket.

Heck, the dedicated PvP crowd in all games tends to have a disdain for non-PvPers, and especially roleplayers. A good example of that is in the PvPing community's word for non-PvPers; "carebears." It's become a more generalized term, but it still has that malicious, disparaging "you're all pansies because you won't let me grief you" subtext behind it.

What I like about City of Heroes is that the PVP is entirely opt-in. CoH's PvP community seemed content with that for the most part, though the times I looked through their forums I still saw a few "&$#^@ carebears ruin EVERYTHING" with regards to the PvP-specific changes that drove many of them away. (PvP has different rulesets than PvE, why do they even bother blaming non-PvPers?)
