Earth/Kin feedback, please

I haven't built a controller since IOs, much less inherent fitness, but have been looking at earth/ and /kin guides and came up with this. I was going for recharge bonuses, and the faster I can debuff and buff allies, the more likely I live. I'd like to hear your feedback on this build.

I really haven't thought about alpha or any other incarnate yet, though am certainly open to suggestions!

Well my first question would be ... why earth/kin?

Earth is a lower damage ranged set with great AoE holds and sleeps. Kin is a up close and in your face self/team buffing as you debuff the bad guys set that works best with high damage high end use primaries.

Both are great sets, together they are just OK.

Ok, concept trumps everything.

I can’t speak for the earth side of your build since I’ve never played earth but I’ll throw a few things out there on the kin side.

First depending on how you plan to slot your alpha and how much you use Siphon speed you may be able to drop one of the recharge reductions and add the slot elsewhere.

On my fire kin I took only the maneuvers power from leadership for the LotG mule and took fighting pool for defense and resistance, for earth your needs might be different.
Speed Boost should be slotted with and End Mod not an end redux.

I don’t bother with IR but it looks like your using that as your travel power so that’s cool.
I would place another LotG recharge in CJ rather than the +Acc, I think the recharge will serve you better.

If you can get your global recharge up a bit higher you can drop a recharge redux from fulcrum Shift and place it somewhere else.

The Force Feedback +Recharge is one of those procs that look a lot better on paper than in the field, it doesn’t proc much and when it does it’s not long enough to make much of a diferance.

Look into placing a set (4) of Kinetic Combats in Seismic Smash, just a much better set over all but it is expensive.

A set of LotG’s with a +recharge will serve you better in rock armor.

Unless you need the set bonuses I would just keep Earth’s Embrace at its base slot, or change it out for a healing set, the resistance just isn’t worth it really.

Not sure how much money you have to spend on this character but I’d look into getting a few purple sets and a few more LotG global recharge’s as you can, it seems to me your biggest weakness is your recharge speeds.

Thanks! That's exactly the sort of feedback I was looking for. (Ooops, posted this while Hindenburg was posting.)

I'm using Red Fortune in Rock Armor because it's cheaper, and it gives me +recharge. I took the slots out of Earth's Embrace and used them to two-slot LotG for extra regen. I'm not too worried about accuracy, as almost all earth/ powers have -def.

167.5% recharge without Hasten or SS, 218% regen, 112% HP. With Manuvers and CJ running, I have almost 34% S/L defense, but only 15% ranged:

Here is the build I'm playing with currently. My Earth/Kin is one of several projects so she has been slowly floating through the 40s, running on mostly generic IOs, and a little frankenslotting. But her build is designed to play from 1-50 on teams or solo (as slow as that might be). I am following the build below, and the build is effective whether I decide to keep it simple or spend the cash to go all out. The power picks and slot timing are the same because its a "play from the ground up" build. All I have to do is decide if and when to change out the enhancements. No respec needed.

Anyway, the build is right at perma-hasten with one application of Siphon Speed. It emphasizes both team play and self-sufficiency. Eventually the build is right at the soft-cap for smashing/lethal too. If you go into incarnates, being Earth/Kin, you have all the control, recharge, damage, recovery, and healing that you probably need, so the Alpha you take is very flexible and strictly down to taste.

hi i m earth/kin to. I have more or less the same build, but i'm more focus on recharge, i feel that recharge is the stat for this build, and with my current build i almost reach the cap def (i m playing like 100% of the time with a shield scrapper that makes me reach the def cap)
.
I use 4 bazilic's Gaze and 2 Lockdown on Fossilise And Volcanic Gasses, to get the recharge bonus from bazilic's gaze and maximize hold/recharge/accu with the 2 lockdown and i use +2 mag. hold on Volcanic.

I use also 4 bazilic's and 2 dmg IO on Seismic smash, because Bazili's recharge is higher than crushing impact but it costs 2 slots more. I may be wrong.

Purple set on your root is very cheap and 5 pieces give 10% recharge.

4 dark watcher on Earthquake (recharge) and 2 procs (Achilles' heel - res debuf and force feed back/touch of lady grey procs, proc on pseudo-pet is really good).


On Mr.Hankey i use 4 Expedient reinforcement including the resist aura and the resistance from sovereigne right + the pet def from Edict of the master. Mr.Hankey's dmg will be near caped and i dont really care about Accu.

Rock armore can carry LotG.

I have a few quick points on how changes I would make to your build.

Fissure: Sometimes a little damage is a good thing. Change those two Lockdown for An Acc/Dam Hami-O and a common Damage.

Transfusion: That Regen/Recovery proc will only work when you actually use the power and for 120 seconds later. I would find a slot to move it to Health, where it will always be on.

Stone Cages: This power uses a lot of endurance. Swap out the Immob for Immob/End. If you can find another slot, a damage proc (Posi blast or Trap of the Hunter) is nice here if you use it a lot.

Maneuvers: With all the -Defense in Earth, you really don't need that Kismet. I would try to get some EndRdx in Maneuvers. Transference isn't available all the time.

Animate Stone: I would rather have more Damage in Rocky than that Defense bonus, because you can heal him if needed.

Seismic Smash: How about 4 Kinetic Combat for the Defense bonus, plus an Acc/Dam Hami-O to finish it out? The Hold is far less important than the Damage. You can use this + Fossilize to hold a boss, but then you can re-cast to stack Fossilize before the Hold runs out. That extra slot could go in Rock Armor for a Defense/End.
