Pure PvE moving into PvP
Yeah, I know, I haven't really gotten the PvE thing down yet, but as part of my new project I was going to make two characters and play/rest cycle them to stave off a burn out and boost leveling. I've got a good concept for my first character down and have no idea what to roll for a second.
I know that PvE doesn't really translate well to PvP (I'm assuming a little here) and figured I could gear my second toon a little more towards PvP. I've messed around in quite a few arena matches on Freedom and the rating system, as well as the dynamic opponents got me hooked a little bit. It's like Counter-Strike with superpowers. I can't wait to take myself into the zones later. I was just curious how you get a start in PvP. Are there any guidelines to go by? Anything I should avoid because it's broken/useless. I was thinking of a blaster because it sound easier than having to get in Melee and chase down a moving target (I currently run a Kinetic Melee Scrapper with Super Reflexes, I've been told it's a bit sub-optimal). I was thinking of making a Stalker with a similar load-out and seeing where that went. I just didn't want to dive in without a basic understanding of what's going on. On a side note: I'm assuming the Villains, need more men. I think I may have to go red-side for this one. |
Well imho play what you feel you will have fun with first get the concept.. then you can make a cookie cutter pvp toon.. but thats my opinion.. Your KM is prob one of the strongest melee out there now in pvp outside of stalkers.. utilize the range powers + epic rang power+ the last attack..
However if you want to just go out there and rip, i would suggest you go with a dom or blaster..
You wont have the shield strength as u do on ya scrap.. but you will like the dmg/mez.. plus in pvp After DR shield strength is really up in the air..
Lol when my kheldian has more = shield strength and hp as my scrapper/tanks then you know pvp is backwards.

I recently started messing with PvP as a diversion after burning out on PvE content.
I came across a bunch of threads mostly by The_Masque with some starter PvP builds they were using in a PvP Boot Camp2 educational program on Victory:

I built a Psy/NRG blaster and have been messing around with him mostly in zone PvP in Sirens and RV on Freedom. Lots of dying, but I'm having fun figuring out PvP mechanics and learning to talk trash.
If you want to die together with another PvP noob, look me up. Global is @SuspiciousPkg and my PvP toon is Wrecked'em (since phonetically, that's where I seem to be taking it a lot on my first PvP toon.)
We don' need no stinkin' signatures!
Well, the second character I'm leveling in my Play/Rest cycle is an Assault Rifle/Energy Manipulation Blaster. I thought about taking him into the zones and such as well. I've got one going resistance and one loyalist, so I have no idea where they're going to end up. I've also got a lesser used Arachnos Soldier than I could field as well.
From what I can gather Travel Powers take on a new meaning in PvP. Leaping and Super Speed seem to be standard, as does Concealment. Leadership also seems to work well. I was planning on taking some of these in my Scrapper, so I'll have time to get used to those. If Leadership is what I think it is I need to find a team and double up on my Soldiers toggles and sit back while I turn everyone else into a beast.
Right now, theoretically, I'm leaning towards the blaster or the soldier, ranged just sounds easier, until I get my bearing at least.
Should be able to find people that are both red-side and blue-side. I guess gold-side can only go to the terminals in Pocket D.

"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict
You'll want to get familar with Mid's Hero Designer.
there's a lil button that allows you to switch between pve and pvp mode, so you can see how powers change, damage changes, resistance's change, etc
for example
Full Auto (a tier 9 power) does less damage than Burst (a tier 1 power) while in pvp mode.
Psi/sonic/fire are probably the best blasters for pvp, but since you're learning just play what ever you want/have. Your primary powers will be less of a factor than your noobness
blasters are easy to cap your HP at 1606, you'll want a phase power (temp or Conceal pool), try to get 25-41 kb protection (acrobatics give's 9 + 4~8 kb IO's)
perma jump is ---> /up 1
