Artist #4: Airhead

Ahhh!!!! I got all but Lady Judgement. #4, I cannot be blamed. I am so sorry LJ. I... cannot excuse. I will improve.

Hey wait, I was #4? Even worse, you let someone submit a screen shot? Someone who hacked into the Alfalfa Server and showed pre-released stuff? That's... okay. I'm drunk.

Bubblawheat, as always, you're doing a fantastic job here But I am missing your art. I know you can't score, but really I do miss your art.

Congratulations to Liz! And also LJ! And even to Lousy Day, who kicked my butt at the last minute. For all the right reasons. At least you didn't feature a wasp-waisted man in a pink outfit and a San Francisco moustache.

Bubba told me since the theme was anonymous, I could slip right in unnoticed... (read in best Scooby Doo Old Man taking off the mask - voice) and I would have gotten away with it too, if that rotten Lousy Day hadn't uncovered me!

Congrats to Liz!

Now on to some Tarot Cards... thanks again Bubba for letting me join the fun!

Lol that was my first thought as well, it's clearly Bobby's style but it can't be him
he's not in the contest and ya never know that Henri is pretty crafty.

But then I remembered the rules in this contest... really aren't.
They're kinda more like suggestions, at best.

Heck at this rate I wouldn't be surprised if I was sloughing it out with
Projectionist (WB FunnyFace!), Juggertha and Foo in the finals.

Actually, humor aside, that might be pretty cool.

Nah. You wouldn't have gotten away with it... I'z kin spotz yo artz frum ah mile awayz yo!
Once again, I couldn't guess them all without giving my own piece away but most were pretty easy to tell apart.
Lousy Day I think did the best job of hiding his tracks artistically... I almost thought it might be BW at first until I looked closer.

I thought mine was pretty well disguised by using the south park body as a model but LD figured it out pretty quick,
not sure if it was, by process of elimination, the only one left or if because it was the very last piece
submitted (Bubba could've scrambled the posting order if he was being really clever).

...or maybe it was the orange carnie outfit.

I had considered doing that, since people following the thread would realize that Darth Delicious almost always posts early, and Christopher Robin always posts as close to 11:59 on the last day as possible , but that would mean holding all the pieces until the very end, and I'd rather keep the posting thread visible throughout the month.

Just got home from work, will post full results shortly.

Congrats Liz!

Darn you Airhead for uncovering me, and also being the only one I was way off with my guess! I was surprised by how few people tried to guess the artists. Airhead and CR, what made you guys think #3 was me?

Liz was a tough one to guess because I hadn't seen much of her previous works. What made me rule out my initial guesses were small details like the shape of the cape and specular highlights on the hair.

After LJ posted I was pretty certain #5 was him.

I had Tartyrsauce and CR backwards at first because CR had asked me for 3d links earlier in the month. When he was very quiet on the forums last few days before the deadline I thought he must be learning 3d. CR almost got away with it, but upon a closer look I found a couple of clues he left behind: He used the same chat bubble and font for his March entry! And I think Tartyrsauce talked about poser or dazstudio on the forums a long time ago so he was the only logical choice I had left for #7.

As for mine I tried to do something totally different from what I normally do stylistically. I had never done comics/chibis so it was a learning experience. I also made a lot of use of lasso, masking tools, and gradients, which I haven't used much before but am trying to incorporate more into my painting process. I also learned to use some filters to create special effects instead of painting by hand, which you can see on the healing effect and on the spell around Amy's feet.

One thing I didn't want to compromise was realistic lighting. It probably has been my number one obsession when it comes to creating an image as long as I've been painting. I think realistic lighting makes even cartoonish sketches feel more immersive and believable, like in this Lost Ducky series and a lot of stuff you see in the "Art of" books for animations. I think it will always be a main focus in my personal works whether it be 2d or 3d.

Good luck on your June entries everyone. Now that I got eliminated I will be able to vote freely!

Sorry I didn't guess the artists; the ones I figured out I was right on. I realize saying this now .

The skill involved for #3 made it an obvious Lousy Day piece. The layout on the large, third panel to the end is especially well done.

The style on #5 I immediately pegged as LJ, but was confused since he isn't in the competition.

#6's figure construction was just like Defiance Jone's entry last month.

I'd no clue who did #4 but it remains my favourite this month. Clever use of game material.

Oh, lemme grab some quotes:

1) I thought it was going to be the hands. Especially Imperious.

2) That's really clever detective work.

Results:
Liz with 41 points
Lady Judgement with 22 points
Lousy Day with 17 points
Airhead with 15 points
Defiance Jones with 12 points
Tartyrsause with 3 points
Darth Delicous with 2 points
Christopher Robin with 2 points

congrats to all, and good luck this month with your tarot themed pieces!

Airhead gets 2 bonus points this month for having no one guess him as an artist, since Lady Judgement was a surprise entry, he doesn't get bonus points for the guessing portion.

Final points standings! These points are what you have to use to buy bonuses like immunity, extra time, head starts and more. If you have any other ideas for point items, let me know and I'll consider it. The rest of this competition will be decided by eliminations. Currently, only Liz, Techbot Alpha, and Lady Judgement do not have enough points to buy immunity before voting, and only the top 4 have enough points to save themselves after voting. Defiance Jones proves that being consistent is just as important as getting a lot of votes, as he is third in total points. And Darth Delicious shows how helpful the early bird points are, helping her catch up to 5th place in points after missing the first month. And Christopher Robin has a pretty nice lead, by being both consistent as well as placing high in the voting most months. Feel free to use your points as you see fit, whenever you see fit. They will no longer be allowed for use when we get down to the final 3. Anyway, enough discussion, the points standings are:

Christopher Robin 83 points
Lousy Day 69 points
Defiance Jones 68 points
Battlewraith 67 points
Darth Delicious 60 points
Tartyrsause 59 points
Henri 57 points
Airhead 57 points
Liz 35 points
Techbot Alpha 34 points
Lady Judgement 9 points

Congrats to Liz! edit: and also to Lady Judgement & Lousy Day, too!

And I'd never in a million years have guessed #3 was Lousy Day!

And yeah, looking at it, mine was pretty easy to guess (and pretty sloppy, too!) - I was going for having everyone wearing those comedic fake glasses with the big, plastic nose, bushy eyebrows and mustache (apparently "Groucho Glasses"? after Groucho Marx) that I always see in comedies as the most obvious, cheap "disguise" worn by utterly clueless wannabe-spies.

Thanks again for each and everyone who voted for me! It really gives me a little warm glow inside! Thanks WingedMurasaki, Caemgen, panthera, airhead, LadyJudgement, ddgryphon, syrusb, PatrickAT!

Instinct. I looked at it, and thought it was you. But when you mentioned Liz, I realised I need to think about it to be sure.
* Someone was drawing outside of their comfort zone. Waaaay outside. Yet it was VERY good! To attempt this so whole-heartedly, one would have to understand other styles and also want to do it technically very well. I imagine you have formal art training, which would require you to seriously attempt other styles. When you mentioned Liz, I wasn't completely sure of this. Another person I know with such a background could be Wassy.
* You made an early guess. It meant you hadn't disappeared, so otherwise you're very consistent. So probably a competitor.
* More than anything else, your last panel. Your Jack of Irons and War(dog)walker, and no doubt many pieces earlier, are infused with feelings of "awww shucks". Incarnate Junior made me feel that way in spades. Brilliant.

Darth and CR were perhaps channeling Bubbawheat. But Darth's fonts were complicated, unlike Bubbawheat's signature. Bubbawheat hasn't tried colouring that way yet that I've seen. The mask on CR's Carnie looked like a CR drawing, and the frames in general look painterly-over-pencil. Tartyrsause was a very tough one, aside from the goblin theme. The red eyes turning blue was probably the anonymity kicking in, although the horns remained. I regret not giving that piece some points. Liz was the hardest. It was the schedule. Liz had arrived with a serious and very succesful piece of Hero 1 art. I trusted she was here to stay, a wonderful thing. #5 I didn't get. My own - I posted a screenshot hack in a Caemgen thread just before voting closed, which made me worry a little that people would guess I do that sort of thing. Otherwise I sought to channel Bubbawheat which made me happy to see that might have worked. I don't really know what "channeling Bubbawheat" means, but "Look Ma" seemed culturally akin to "Bubba", and I imagined Bubba having the same problem as me of playing too many trials. The idea of a screenshot was because I didn't think I had much time. Despite that it took many hours.

Hahahah you really think so? That's funny cuz I tried specifically to use a totally
different look from any I had used before so as not to give it away.

They use a different color, size, bubble shape, bubble tail, a completely different font,
different speech, punctuation... heck they don't even face the same direction!

Gratz Liz! And Gratz Airhead for the guessing!

I decided not to vote or guess this month due to the annonimity theme .
But I guessed more right than I thought! I won't bother to mention my guessings as...well.. I can't prove any, can I *giggles*.

It was a fun theme!

Oh... and CR's piece I guessed right as well (since that discussion is onging atm ).
I was doubting... it could have been (for me that is) 4, 6 or 8 and maybe even 7 (as you were talking about 3D-ing earlier, but that also would have made it too easy...)
So.. 4, 6 or 8 it was... and 8 got turned in on the very very last moment... the CR style . So I went with 8. And thát's why I guessed that one right! *giggles*

If you do wanna hear the rest of my guessings I'll put them up .

Well done everyone!
And great theme Bubba!

Hmmm clerical error on my part. The Queens Day Off is listed on my DA page as March. The Xllusya piece from March does indeed use the same font but a somewhat different bubble.
That being the case, good catch, I can see what gave it away. I tried to make it different from every piece I'd done before... except that one lol.

Thanks for pointing that out Bubba, I didn't think LD could be that far off so there had to be something I was missing.

For some reason, I feel compelled to ask: "Why is this piece different from all other pieces?"

Well, ya know, this month's theme was "anonymous" - we were all trying to not draw like ourselves (some more successfully than others)

Yep Gryphon, what Defiance said. The goal was to put up something people would
like and want to vote for but not have them know who created it.

*Note to self... not a lot of South Park fans on the forums*

Well you could have just voted for someone other than yourself for once... no one would've ever seen that coming.

D'oh! Did I manage to fool anyone at all?

Yeah I figured posting last would be a giveaway to those who know my on/off hectic schedule usually has
me waiting till the last day then drawing right up until 1 minute before the deadline.
