Shouldn't the European servers have better ping for me?

I live in Eastern Europe, and I refused to make the move to the EU version of the game when that came out despite much conversion. Because I'm an ocean away from the US servers, I usually see quite a bit of ping time on my end, usually upwards of 250ms. As such, I've limited my character-making to only the East Coast servers, as trying to play on the West Coast servers slaps an extra 100ms of ping on me, so I'm looking at something on the order of 350 ping and above at most times. Right around there is where ping delay starts to get noticeable and grating for me.

So now we have the European servers added to the list, and though I seem to recall hearing that those were actually not in Europe, I still kind of hoped that they'd give me better ping, or at least NOT WORSE ping. Well, I just made a test character on Defiant and I'm seeing anywhere between 320 and 350 ping, and this is not something I want to play with. Is there something I'm not aware of, or am I simply not going to be able to play on the former European servers?

The European Servers used to be in a data center in Germany, they were moved over to where the over servers live a while back. If the West Coast servers give you issues, then it's likely that the West Coast is where the four EU servers were put. Would seem consistent with the ping times you have noticed.

Most users experienced an increase in quality once the servers were moved to the US from Germany. This is believed to have be tied to the main trunk from Germany being weak to the rest of the EU. This would have been 6 months or so ago. Maybe even 12.

When they moved the servers my ping went from like 200 to 250, not a big leap, but I experience MUCH less lag overall now. Germany have such poor internet infrastructure.

I saw about the same increase in ping, but a marked decrease to the number of packets lost and dropped.

I've actually gotten some weird latency and bad pings times on Union myself, and I'm in the eastern EU and have no issues with Virtue so maybe a issue on the server itself.

My in-game ping went from 130 to 240

Strangely Pingtest.net gives me a ping of 147 to Austin TX but my in-game ping is still ~240

See, this is kind of why I'm hesitant to praise the up-and-coming "action MMOs," as they call them. You know the ones - they play like console games with direct reticle aiming, dodging, blocking, combos, that sort of thing. Well, that's all fine and good if you play it over a local network with up to around 100 ping. But go beyond that and things start to become... Unpleasant. At right around 300 ping, which is what I'm seeing here, reaction time starts getting so slow that anything which requires timing is just out of the question.

By contrast, City of Heroes chugs along just fine, and even feels kind of snippy at that response time. That's because there's very little in the game that demands precise, split-second timing, and there's no aiming to be had other than looking around. In fact, this was one major reason which convinced me to try the game in the first place - I KNEW I'd be seeing huge ping times, so I wanted to make sure I was buying a game which could play well with a slow connection. It still mostly does, those the veritable Quick Time Events that newer content introduces kind of throw a spanner in the works.
