That is correct.
Don't forget to run the Weekly Strike Targets when they come up - the 4-6 Shards you get for breaking down a Notice definitely helps speed things up.
ITFs are your friend when it comes to getting shards.

That's how I crafted my Rare Alpha on my main, I used thread components and crafted it after a single BAF run (got lucky and had a Rare table pop up)

The LGTF is your Mother when it comes to shards if you farm it right. I get 10-15 per run.
Don't you get Favor of the Well from running the STF or LRSF?

No, that's an Essence of the Incarnate, which can be upgraded to a Drop of the Well.
Notice of the Well and Favor of the Well are similarly named, but earned through totally different means.

Just to clarify, one can't get a Favor of the Well any way other then by crafting it from 32 shards and 2 Notices of the Well? As in, I can't run something that drops one, and will just have to wait for the shards to accumulate?
