We will ever get another paid expansion like GR?

SoA and Kelds are story(content) based UNLOCKABLES. One has to ACHIEVE something in order to gain playable access to them. Saying that their NOT appearing in the GR means that his statement regarding a "superworld" where all ATs are available at creation is not something "they were ever aiming at" may not be so correct. After all, if someone buys CoH now they wouldn't be able to play as a Keld or SoA untill they UNLOCK them. Hell, until they merged CoV with CoH, players weren't allowed to play as half the ATS at create... the player had to have a copy of both CoV and CoH.

I do however agree that the exclusion of the SoA and Kelds is strictly enforced due to their unique UNLOCKABLE status... which was reset to obtaining a lvl 20 hero/villian which makes it now an auto unlock for anyone who plays through the GR arc. So with that, I might say that having the SoA and Kelds as Starter ATs is now valid... due to the fact the games main content and features become available to all at lvl 20... the new defacto BEGINING of the game somewhat.

As far as a paid expansion, well... maybe... depends on the future of CoX. I am leaning towards CoX2 personally. With the amount of features the devs have been adding to the core system... all of which is in an attempt to get the game to the original concept as pitched way back in '02 IMHO, it would be ALMOST be better to go ground up instead of having to keep jury rigging the now very jury rigged system again and again.

again, just my 2 cents... which in these economic times means... I still owe... DAMN!

CoH's expansion rate of one every 3.5 years (I'm counting CoV despite it launching as a separate game) is definitely slow compared to competition from the same time. These days it seems like MMORPGs don't get enough of a head of steam to start cranking out expansions like they used to.

CoH obviously has had a lot of free content updates and I won't even try to compare the two in "value".

Don't forget that "Going Lunar" will be on shelves in Summer, 2012.

We'll be getting several lunar zones, including Moonbase Armstrong and Space Station Gagarin, as well as both personal and SG/VG satellites and/or starbases.

As the "Emperor Cole" storyline draws to a tumultuous conclusion, the combined forces of both Primal and Praetorian Earths will collide on the lunar surface and in Cole's citadel for a final showdown, facing features which are currently being kept under wraps by a double-secret NDA (although it has been hinted that an even greater evil is hiding just offstage).

What is known is that we'll be able to unlock various types of vehicles (including a moon buggy) and startling new Epic ATs, all against startling photorealistic landscape and backgrounds (created using actual NASA and CERN images as guides).

Beta testing is scheduled to begin either 4th Quarter 2011 or early 1st Quarter 2012.

CoH is doing it great for a 7 years old game, and Praetoria, new maps, new costumes are just awesome, but old stuff makes my eyes bleed aswell.
Old low res citizen and contact, old low res mobs...etc...
I guess they cant replace/revamp/upgrade every old-low-res-textureless-thing in the game.

Right now, heroes have 7 ATs to their name: Blaster, Scrapper, Tanker, Defender, Controller, Peacebringer, Warshade

Villains have another 7: Brute, Stalker, Mastermind, Corruptor, Dominator, Arachnos Soldier, Arachnos Widow

Praetorians have 10: Blaster, Scrapper, Tanker, Defender, Controller, Brute, Stalker, Mastermind, Corruptor, Dominator

It's not exactly even, but it's far from one-sided.
Did Kheldians land on Praetorian Earth?

Did Arachnos rise? I have neither seen nor heard from Uncle Stefan or even the crabbiest of his Spiders.

If neither Kheldians nor Arachnos exist in, on, or under Praetoria, then how can we have access to them, Sam?

Everyone, please keep this discussion limited to City of Heroes. Do not discuss, compare, or contrast with other games. Thanks.

This. Makes me feel good when I see it, too.

I've always thought the best thing any of us can do is support the game internally by getting active, writing a mission, helping a player, buying a SuperPack, referencing to friends, etc. I've personally been responsible for bringing four new players to the game since I started, two of which are still playing.

How 'bout you?

And the new maps like the warehouse ones cause instant lag the moment I look at them. Not enter them. Look at them.

My only issue right now is teams fall into four categories. Sewer, farms, WTF, and trials. Regular teams have all, but gone to hell even on Virtue and Freedom and that's even with the masses playing. It's almost like get on a sewer team and finish at level 10. Start doing TFs and toss in a WTF as you level. Farm if you feel the need. Once you hit 50, do trials until you feel the need to stop. IIRC, heroside alone now has 5 TFs between 20-30. There is a token tips team running around maybe, but that's about it. As of late I see about one normal team running around at best and a number of times I have to be the one leading it.

I know the policy. I just find it asinine when I post something that reflects on CoH in a positive way(I like CoH's graphics as is) and yet that gets deleted just because I mentioned another game in a unnamed rather vague way. I honestly had to look the game's name up.

Yes, there are times it's actually *appropriate* to mention other games.

"COH - Paid Expansion in 2005 and 2011."
"Game 1 - Paid exp. in years 1, 3, 6"
"Game 2 - 3 in year one after which everyone quit in disgust."

Kind of hard to do that without actually *naming* other games (for reasons such as "So other people can look for themselves and confirm the data.")

Some policies need *common sense* when applied, as opposed to "ZOMGOTHERGAMENAMEDELETEDELETEBURNWITHFIRE!" Then again, well, I seem to be getting modded a fair bit for the same things that got passed over, now that I've been criticizing the direction of the game and dev team more and more. *shrug* I have a feeling that my relationship here is going to be at the same <sarcasm>wonderful</sarcasm> level it was with Ex and Lighthouse.

First - we don't know.
Second - Cole killed Markus when they found the well, so no.

I wish there were alot more stuff we could pay for.

I would be willing to give CoH my money for any little thing they can dish out.

Why?

Because i love the game. And because the more money they make would help them stay in business for a good long while.

I will gladly give my money up for the smallest micro transactions and or upgrades to keep CoH around forever.

I wouldn't. And I wouldn't encourage anyone to do so.

Not saying I haven't done quite a bit, but I'm not a money pit, and if something (such as the Party Pack) comes along that doesn't seem worth it to me, I'm not just throwing money at it "because it's COH."

While they have a good bias on my part (I'm more likely to consider it positively,) it's not a 100% free pass into my wallet. (Full disclosure: I have everything buyable *except* the party pack and however many day it is jet pack, on both accounts.) If they started charging $1/emote, for instance, I highly doubt I'd pick them up. That's a level that would just get irritating.

In general, they do better than other games. Yes, read fast before it gets modded. Aion? $9.99 last I looked for *a* weapon skin, or pack of dye, or pretty much anything in the store - which can only be applied to a single character, and given you can upgrade (read: throw out the old) weapons/armor/etc, it's something to ignore until you're at max level and fully "tweaked." Now that makes sense for some things like server transfers or name changes, but it's too steep for a pack of dye. Or the various item-stores you see in other games - I don't like them, and won't send money their way. Their existence (and I mean when it's widespread in game - pages on pages of "Buy this! Look, a character! A single costume! An emote!") will generally turn me away from playing the game.

Right *now* I think COH has the right balance, for the most part. Anything you buy is generally rather extensive (several costumes, an emote or other power, etc.) and gets applied account wide. Most seem worthwhile to me.
