Discussion: The NCsoft Launcher is now available for our Mac users!

We announced it a little while ago and we're now delivering it! The NCsoft Launcher, and its many related benefits, is now available for our Mac users!

What advantages will you get from switching over to the NCsoft Launcher? Well, not only will it be compulsory in the near future, but you will also be able to get much faster updating speed so all your City of Heroes installations are available more quickly than before. Not to mention, that you will also be getting the Wisp aura costume piece in game after you've used the NCsoft Launcher for the first time!

Read on for instructions on how to install the Mac NCsoft Launcher!

Mac NCLauncher installation instructions:

• Download the Mac NCLauncher installation file. It is a disk image, or "DMG file", called NCLauncher_Install.dmg.
  
• Most likely, you will see a progress bar once the disk image finishes downloading, as the disk image "mounts", or appears as a new drive on your desktop. In case this does not automatically open for you, double-click the NCLaucher_Install.dmg file within your Downloads folder.
  
• A Finder window appears, containing the NCLauncher application and a shortcut to your Applications folder.
  
• Drag the NCLauncher application into the Applications folder.
  
• You can now close the NCLauncher Install window.
  
• Open the Applications folder and double-click the new NCLauncher application to start it.
  
• You will be presented with the End User License Agreement the first time the NCLauncher is run.
  
• Accept it to finish opening the NCLauncher application.

• Install the NCLauncher application as described above.
  
• Open the Applications folder and double-click the NCLauncher icon to start the application.
  
• Click the NCLauncher menu at the top of your screen and select "Settings" to open the NCLauncher Settings window.
  
• Check the Region setting. If you are playing on the US City of Heroes servers, the Region must be set to "North America". If you are playing on the European City of Heroes Servers, the Region must be set to "Europe".
  
• Click the red "x" button to close the window and save your settings.
  
• On the main NCLauncher window, find the "City of Heroes" game in the "Not Installed" section.
  
• Click on the "City of Heroes" game entry.
  
• On the main NCLauncher window, click the "Install Game" button in the bottom-right corner of the window to start the installation.
  
• The NCLauncher will ask you if you are sure you wish to install the game, click "OK" to continue.
  
• The NCLauncher will then ask you to create an NCsoft Master Account. The NCsoft Master Account is required to play City of Heroes.
  
• If you already have an NCsoft Master Account, click "Skip". If you do not have an NCsoft Master Account, click "Create Account", which will launch your default browser.
  
• After clicking "Skip" or "Create Account", the NCLauncher will begin to download and install City of Heroes.
  
• After the installation is complete, the NCLauncher will automatically launch the game.

• Install the NCLauncher application as described above.
  
• Open the Applications folder and double-click the NCLauncher icon to start the application.
  
• Click the NCLauncher menu at the top of your screen and select "Settings" to open the NCLauncher Settings window.
  
• Check the Region setting. If you are playing on the US City of Heroes servers, the Region must be set to "North America". If you are playing on the European City of Heroes Servers, the Region must be set to "Europe".
  
• Click the red "x" button to close the window and save your settings.
  
• The NCLauncher will detect City of Heroes installations in the Applications folder automatically. It will be listed in the main NCLauncher window under the "Installed" section.
  
• Double-click on the game to launch it.

• Install the NCLauncher application as described above.
  
• Open the Applications folder and double-click the NCLauncher icon to start the application.
  
• A window will appear titled "Search For City of Heroes". Click "Search" to let NCLauncher look for City of Heroes on your computer.
  
• When NCLauncher has found City of Heroes, it will notify you. Click "OK" to close the window.
  
• Your City of Heroes games will be shown in the main window of the NCLauncher under the "Installed" section.
  
• Click the NCLauncher menu at the top of your screen and select "Settings" to open the NCLauncher Settings window.
  
• Check the Region setting. If you are playing on the US City of Heroes servers, the Region must be set to "North America". If you are playing on the European City of Heroes Servers, the Region must be set to "Europe".
  
• Click the red "x" button to close the window and save your settings.
  
• In the main NCLauncher window, double-click on City of Heroes to launch the game.

• Open the Application folder and double-click the NCLauncher icon to start the application.
  
• Click the NCLauncher menu at the top of your screen and select "Settings" to open the NCLauncher Settings window.
  
• Check the Region setting. If you are playing on the US City of Heroes Training Room server, the Region must be set to "North America". If you are playing on the European City of Heroes Training Room server, the Region must be set to "Europe".
  
• Click the red "x" button to close the window and save your settings. If you've changed the region, you must restart the NCLauncher.
  
• On the main NCLauncher window, find the "City of Heroes Test" game in the "Not Installed" section.
  
• Click on "City of Heroes Test" game entry.
  
• On the main NCLauncher window, click the "Install Game" button in the bottom-right corner of the window to start the installation.
  
• The NCLauncher will ask you if you are sure you wish to install the game, click "OK" to continue.
  
• The NCLauncher will then ask you to create an NCsoft Master Account. You must have an NCsoft Master Account that already has City of Heroes to play on the City of Heroes Test server.
  
• If you already have an NCsoft Master Account, click "Skip". If you do not have an NCsoft Master Account, click "Create Account", which will launch your default browser.
  
• After clicking "Skip" or "Create Account", the NCLauncher will begin to download and install City of Heroes Test.
  
• After the installation is complete, the NCLauncher will automatically launch the game.

• Maximizing the EULA acceptance dialog does not display correctly.
  
• Using the "Browse" function to find CoH games when the launcher detects CoH Preferences does not persist across sessions. OSX 10.5 only.
  
• When the Internet is disconnected while repairing City of Heroes then the user cannot repair CoH if the connection returns.
  
• Mac Launcher cannot recover if Games.xml or GamesAddendum.xml are missing/invalid.
  
• If Mac Launcher can hit launcher.ncsoft.com but fails to find Games.xml then it will overwrite Games.xml as an empty file.‏
  
• There is no functionality to repair and detect bad Cider installs.

Excellent! Now the Mac users can see what they've been missing!

Those are some FABULOUS known issues, there.

I think I'll hold off on getting it till those are fixed. :|

so far so good. but im keeping my old method for a while on my main system. i can always copy back if the NCLauncher fails to impress me. good luck to the other Mac Users!

I want to install this on my mac (I've found I actually like the NCSoft Launcher despite the warnings from other people), but this issue sounds really nasty:

Now that there's launchers for both platforms, is the old CohUpdater going to be replaced on Steam? Or is Steam keeping the old launcher?

Is there any way to open two applications of the game using the MAC launcher? Currently I have to restart my computer and switch it to windows using bootcamp which id rather not have to do.
