Crashing daily
I even crashed in Safe Mode. And in windowed mode. And after doing a RegCure.
Windows 7 Home Premium
SYSTEM:
Alienware M11XR2
Intel Core i7 CPU U640 @120GHz 1.20GHz
8 GB Ram
64 Bit OS
Funny thing.. I can still play on my old Macbook Pro without crashing at all. I used to be able to play on my Alienware before i20 without problems.
Im crashing all the time too, and its mainly corrupt pigg crashes, but the thing that it says crashes me usually works fine before that, and even after if i dont repair. For instance, my character has cyborg2 face item, and ive been running around all day seeing it, and then i got a crash saying that that very part of the pigg file is corrupt. I then restart the game without repairing, and things are fine, and then later i get some other pigg crash for something i see and access all the time, like the enhancement screen.
Wheeee my signature is terrible!
We've been trying multiple computer configurations. (Hubby and I are independent game devs) And the common denominator for consistent crashes since i20 is Windows 64 bit.
We've played on Intel Macs, both on the windows and mac sides (not 64 bit windows). No crashing.
What we're about to try is creating a Windows 32 bit partition on our Alienwares. Will keep you posted.
Update:
We (hubby and I have identical alienware laptops as described above. He might crash rarely, I crash consistently and repeatedly. We are both power users. We even went as far as to completely restore my machine. Clean Windows, no other software, just CoH. Still crashed.
He made a 32 bit partition and installed CoH on there. It still crashed. Right away.
The only remaining difference between our systems now are that he has multiple developer tools installed on his machine. We're going to put them on mine and see if it helps. Will keep you posted.
Update!
We may have found the solution!
Installing dev tools seems to have fixed the crashing problem. Now this could mean that some dll or something in the client is linked to something in dev tools .. that's up to CoH devs to determine..
We installed Visual Studio 2008 professional with Service Pack 1 and all it's updates, and Direct X SDK, June or July, (has Open GL Drivers in it)..
No more crashing! Bottom line.. he had all these tools on his machine.. didn't crash.. I didn't have them and did. Now I do and am not...
Please pass this on to devs.. it could help narrow down the problem.
Cheers.
*Update.. did finally crash on my machine but it was well over two hours instead of the usual few minutes.. But a random crash without exiting and re-entering after a TF is common anyways..
*Update (morning test) - upped the resolution from 1366x768 to 1680x1050 and crashed within 3 minutes. Makes me wonder if it is an accumulated memory problem combined with graphic/drivers/issue..
*Update: -reduced rez back to 1366x768, played for a half hour, left it running, went out, came back 2 hours later to find CoH nicely logged out without crashing. Re-entered the game and crashed after playing about 8 minutes.
The next step is to update the dev tools and test again.
Update: Installed PhysX SDK, Visual Studio 2010 and XNA. Was able to play for an hour and 10 minutes before crashing. After shutting down and restarting could play only a few minutes before crashing again. Seems once you crash, it happens faster. Time to move back the intel machine until this is solved, if I wanna get some uninterrupted play time in.
I seem to have solved it by wiping my entire hard drive and replacing Vista with Windows 7, still 32 bit.
Yep, we've done that and it was shortlived. Still crashed. Fast. 32 bit was no more crash free than 64. Let us know if the solution lasts..
If you've reinstalled, re-run your CoH Helper please.
Did you install the same version of drivers?
I've upgraded to the newest 270 drivers and have had only one or two random crash-outs since.
Yes, same drivers.

And I can even understand if it was just me on the trials, but it is not. Other people have been crashing also while either zoning into a mish or during the mish
There are still crashes in the game, the problem isnt fixed, and this issue needs to be resolved. And (XX_'s) stop telling me otherwise....
If you are getting client crashes (as opposed to LCTM), please send in the crash reports. This is the box that pops up, asking what you were doing at the time of the crash. I know many people assume those reports get sent to a black hole, but we do receive them and pull useful information from them.

No crash boxes.. just game freeze. Little blue circle of neverendingness, Alt F4 is the only way out.
The smart thing.. though painful, given the seriousness of the issue, would be to roll back to i19 and release in smaller increments, slowly building back up to i20. Proper more painstaking testing, taking into account the multitude of data reported by the players.

The first time, City just disappeared. It removed itself from memory (my memory usage tracker instantly jumped up as soon as City disappeared), it removed itself from processes list, it just disappeared. Restarting didn't have any issues.
The second time, City froze, unfroze, froze, unfroze, froze, then shut down with the WINDOWS error message (not the customized City error message). Restarting City required a repair process, but otherwise fine.
The third time, City completely froze, froze my entire computer, and I had to hard-reboot the computer. Restarting City required using the repair function multiple times before City would allow me re-entry.
None of these crashes allowed me to send in crash reports. I'm sure there are plenty of people in the same or similar boat. You aren't going to get those reports from us even if you ask, because we don't get that window for whatever reason. (The hard-restart, I understand. But I don't know why City "just disappeared", and I don't know why I got the Windows error report and not the City error report with the second crash.)

Thing about those crash reports - I seem to recall we were once asked to email them in (they form a zip file in the CoH file) to SuperMartin IF we got the pop up (something like pop up results from the auto-report also failing? Was a long time ago).
Is this still necessary? (I figure SuperMartin isn't in paragon studios since it has been forever sense I last saw him post.)

When I do crash I get the "{Application name} has stopped responding" with the green pulsing bar and a cancel button. However I can see it, or any other window, because the frozen image of the game is allways over top of it, and nothing I do will bring it to front of the 3d render of the game. I just end up clicking around about the middle of the screen till I find the cancel button.

Hey Krucifear, I had a similar issue with CoH a while back. I suddenly started having crashes with similar symtoms as yours. Did a complet reinstall of windows and everything with the same results. In the end I found that 1 of my 4 sticks of Ram ( 4 x 2 totaling 8 GB) was sorta bad. by sorta I mean it didn't allways have issues. running a memtest for almsot 24 hours and no bad blocks.
Things I ended up checking before then was, under voltage from my PSU to both the CPU and GPU, and Replacing the GPU. The final fix didn't come till I removed all but one stick of ram and tried playing the game for a while and repeating the process for each stick.
hate to say it but you may be looking at a hardware issue that just coincedently cropped up when i20 was released.

I have been getting a lot of crashes lately also from this game and its getting really frustrating. at first i thought it was cause i was doing incarnate trials but it also happens during regular missions. ive never gotten so many crashes before these latest updates. its really making me reconsider renewing my account
I get no pop up box. Either the game freezes entirely or back into Windows Desktop as if the game just ceased to be.

a crash, no matter what type it appears to be.
I used to get it after every single one. It seems like whenever the crash
handling changed to do occassional things like giving the the(pointless) option
to "keep playing", was when it all but stopped ever giving me the option to
report.
Though the last patch has seen me crashing much much less often, so something
must've got fixed OK at least.
During the BAF trial I crash every single time I am on the path north of the tennis courts during the prisoner escape - if I am south I have no problems.
Yesterday I was on a Lambda trial with a player who crashed every single time they went into the door where the Security guard is.
Last night I spent 30 minutes waiting for a BAF to be formed only to not get the prompt to join it once it was set I wasn't even aware the leader at the time had even started it until the other 23 players disappeared leaving me stood in pocket D
Does anyone else have CONSISTANT crashes at the same place in a mission/trial?

*Also the only time I have problems are with CoH. There are no problems during Dragon Age Two or when I record 100's of GIGs of videos for example.
Only CoH.. and only since i20. Before this I was playing 52 hours a week of CoH and on this machine. (Alienware) Now to get any uncrashy play time I have to borrow my husbands intel Mac Pro. :P
