This move is NOT welcome. Server maintenance periods are going to have to be more frequent until more/better hardware is brought online and/or the load on the servers is reduced.
You don't see the glass half full.

No, you don't even see the glass half empty.

You're worried what's in the glass could be contaminated with some viral disease!

Do you also complain when people hug you for free?

Would this explain why the NC-Soft updater has been so slow this week?

I wonder why they don't have community discussion threads when they announce unexpected downtimes. HMMMMMMMM!

What? You want a ******* cookie or somethin'?

No, I don't. That's what the water filter is for.

Yes, the joke becomes rather less fun when they put a hot fix downtime slap bang in the middle of Friday evening for EU customers. Well done. My amusement lasted 24 hours.

I can understand why they want to do it first thing in the morning, so that they have all day to fix stuff if something goes wrong. I can even understand that they don't want to wait until after lunch, as it's Friday and they have to get the kids to drive to wherever Grandma lives. And since it is a hotfix, I assume that it is so important that it couldn't wait til Monday.

I can only make a sad face because their "first thing in the morning" is our prime time. And I can look back with longing eyes at the times when we had an office in the UK that did maintenance to the servers in Frankfurt at European office hours and not at prime time.

Those were the days.

Oh, they've explained why it's at such a stupid time and the reasoning is, unfortunately, about as good as it's going to get. It so happens that this timing destroys Friday night for the EU.

I suspect that the most amusing part will be that, unless this fails over and takes long enough to significantly affect US play time, we won't see any 'compensation' for it.

ETA - not that I usually want the compensation. More zombies or chalet openings is not compensation for what must now be days of lost game time on this one, very badly handled, Issue.

Trumpetting no downtime then saying there will be downtime the next day at a more inconvenient time .... *facepalm*.

Well, this is for a patch, at least. The downtime on Wednesday was to fix something server-side.

I'm more miffed that the website says the downtime is supposed to start at 3:00 Eastern today, but it's apparently starting at 1:00 instead. Guess when I'm available to play today? 1:00 to 3:00.

I am not sure what is going on, but I have not been able to get into CoH all morning. For me, the Eastern downtime started many hours earlier!

I had that problem last night. I kept getting Mapserved (I think 4 times in about 90 min), and every time I'd try to check the forums and found myself unable to access them.

Since no one else on my team got dc'ed and I could access other things on the web, I took it to mean there was some sort of connection problem via an intermediate network node.
