Hover versus Combat Jumping
I think you also lose the ability to run hotfeet if you hover.
Why not take CJ but get the raptor pack, jet pack recipes, etc., to still let you fly when necessary?
We don' need no stinkin' signatures!
On ranged corruptors I often take hover. It's nice to be able to hover-blast from relative safety. Hover is also faster than it used to be, so it's not so slow to get around within missions using it.
Now that we have inherent fitness, I will often take hover and combat jumping on my high-level characters that I'm building for defense. You can certainly run both at the same time. That provides (an admittedly small amount of) defense and immobilize protection with minimal endurance cost.
(Suspicious_Pkg, I think Nelm meant a Fire/Kin corruptor, not controller, given the forum we're in. No Hotfeet worries if that's the case.)
Ah thanks. My bad.

Irrelevant. Corruptors don't get hot feet.
OP: If you don't mind giving up a slot to boost hover's speed, it's quite nice. You do lose immobilize resistance, and hover costs 3 times as much endurance to run, but the advantage of being able to hang out of melee range is quite nice, and it also provides resistance to -fly effects. For example, air superiority takes -1.6 to fly, and hover provides +4 fly, so you'll have to get hit with 3 air superiority attacks to actually get shot out of the sky. Web Cocoon from a Bane Spider, on the other hand, has -10 to fly, so it will drop you regardless.

I love Hover on Kins. With Siphon Speed you move around very quickly and the maneuverability is awesome. You don't even need to slot it for speed if you're willing to deal with the occasional Siphon Speed miss. A single application of SS basically gets you maxed out.
The two things you give up are immobilization protection and endurance cost.
With that said, I have both on my Ice/Kin. I've gone for a defense build and Combat Jumping is the cheapest (endurance) defense you can get.
Current:
Fridgerato - Traps/Ice (Frdm)
Gadgetron - Grav/TA (Lbrty)
Ice/Kin Guide
I have found the best excuses for using hover in combat are the following.
Ranged character with high ranged defense.
Martial artist using rocket boots. Yes, I just did a backflip and kicked you in the face with my flaming jet feet. Can I deal a type of damage other than smashing now?
Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
I had combat jumping for years on my main toon, a fire/rad. I recently switched because:
1-with hover or fly, you can tank recluse on the statesmen. Putting a toggle debuff on him and flying away, he will chase you away from the towers and the rest of the team can easily drop them. Adding a damage proc in the debuff seals the deal.
2-being a ranged blast station is fun...hover gives you lots of maneuverability. It makes it easier to pick targets at a distance
3-raptor packs are nice, but can't be used in master runs, new incarnate trials, or some flashback settings. These are rare things...minus the new incarnate trials.
4-SB protection. Whereas when i was running and jumping everywhere, i hated the movement bonus of speed boost. With hover, i love it. The fly speed increase is way less then the run speed, and since you are more maneuverable, the speed is nice.
it does cost more end, but such is life. Though i find fly to be a slow way to travel...i think i will be swapping it for SS so that i can get the +stealth. Then i will have hover and SS...which is weird but oh well.
I created a new fire/kin that I got up to lvl 6 last night. I have a build that I am modeling off of and the build says to take combat jumping. I really miss fly on one of my other builds and decided to go with hover.
Other than the higher end cost of hover there doesn't seem to be any difference. Does anyone else take hover instead of combat jumping? It is annoying to fight all the time while hovering though...
