Merge IO Sets

So many ask for additional targeted AOE sets. How about lower fruit?

Merge targeted AOE and regular blasts into a single set category.


A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!

It is doubtful that would happen due to a certain great ranged damage proc (Devastation: Chance for Hold) that would become a totally awesome AOE hold.

Then there would also be an issue of both ranged damage and targetted AOE damage each having its own purple set.

Also entroptic chaos chance to self heal, while not so full of awesome has its own hidden levels of awesome that AoEs would make super awesome (even if it possible for a similar effect with Call of the sandman and AoE sleeps)

According to what I could find, it doesn't stack from the same caster.

My suggestion last time this came up is to instead merge Ranged damage sets with Melee damage sets and PBAoE sets with Targeted AoE sets.

This avoids the proc issue Willowpaw bought up although it does allow for Range to be slotted in melee and PBAoE powers. This is a potential concern since range does increase the range of melee powers and cone style PBAoEs (although I don't think it would increase non-cone PBAoEs). However I don't think this is a problem for two reasons. First off melee powers have a range of 7ft adding a foot or so to that is not going to break the game. Secondly it's already possible to slot range enhancement into melee powers using Hamidon Enhancements.

Of course, it would still go off more often because it’s an AoE. Unless that was ever changed.

I don’t think they should merge range/melee or the AoEs

The thing i like about them being separate is that it makes slotting ranged and slotting melee toons a completely different game. You have to learn how to do each one separately. Plus, both would gain very very very little from this imo. Melee toons can now go from 0 to 45% ranged def now very easily, yay?

Don't have any experience with the IO myself, just going by what I found on Red Tomax.

This actually isn't a problem because if you check, you'll find that melee powers aren't effected by range enhancement.

Fair enough. I checked in Mids' sometime back and it said that Centriole Enhancements boost the range of melee powers but I'll admit it's not something I've ever bothered to check in game.

Ahhh, that was a funny oversight while it lasted.

...yeah, there's a reason why they can't become ranged.

*edit* but to the topic: I would like to see more AoE sets, and do wonder about the dearth of ST ranged sets, (many seem pretty meh) but the procs were balanced my single chance rolls, and I have a feeling the bonuses were too. The simplification in straight enhancement would be nice, but the procs/bonuses work against this. So, it has balance issues, and would cause a lot of build shakeups. I'm not seeing much impetus for any merge.

Yeah, I mentioned the lack of Targeted AoE sets in a thread I made recently when I found the reason why it seems that Snipe sets are by far the most common thing to drop.

Turns out that there are five standard snipe sets that all go to level 50.

It's kind of baffling considering Targetted AoE's have all of three normal sets PERIOD, and that PBAoE's got Eradication and Obliteration back in Issue 13.

And Positron's Blast is like the only one of the three that's got anything going for it set bonus wise. :P

I don't think we need to merge lists. I just think we need to add more Targetted AoE sets.

That and do something about all those damned snipe sets going to 50 and clogging up the drop tables and my inventory.

Just had to go look, and you're right. Targetted AOE is pretty lacking as far as sets go. Never noticed that there are only 3 normal TAOE sets, and yes, it does look like that as far as bonuses go, Posi's is the only one with anything worthwhile.

At least the other two sets are often cheap enough for those who just want to frankenslot Targetted AOE powers instead of going for set bonuses.
