Despite the Easter holiday there was a good turnout for this Sunday's Justice Server Ænvasion event! Today I took up the mantle of Ambassador and chose a few of my favorites to share with my home server.

We kicked things off with a quick, fun favorite: Teh Freakshow Artz Club. It's an older arc but has really stood the test of time as the humor, characters and fighting Freakshow never gets old! You got a taste of what reformed Freaks would be like in City of Villains, try out this arc and discover what happens when Freaks get creative! This arc gets my MOST FUN award for teh week! These arcs were a lot of fun and I enjoyed sharing AE the way it was meant to played with our friends on Justice. Hopefully they'll join us again or at least pop in and play some arcs on their own!
Next up was a newer arc that is very lowbie-friendly, Unfair Trade. If you are familiar with the lore characters, Flambeaux and Polar Shift (from the Hero Tip arcs), then you will especially enjoy this spin on their early encounter with your villain and how you may have helped set them on their eventual paths! A fairly serious revenge arc with a little bit of humor sprinkled in and a perfect fit into existing canon! Plus, lots of clues to really flesh out the story! MOST DETAILED and BEST OVERALL
Our final arc was one I'd heard good things about and just recently took the time to play myself...One Million Eyes. From the opening text, which is presented and formatted as posts on a Superhero fan forum, you will realize you are being taken on a very special and unique journey. This arc really highlights the versatility of AE stories and quickly draws you into the characters and world being created by the author.
Note: Take time to read the 'away' text from your contact, as there's incredible fun and character development in this oft-overlooked area. Worth a 2nd or 3rd play to catch any in-jokes or details you may have missed on an earlier run! BEST CUSTOMS and MOST MEMORABLE
Next Sunday (5/1/11): the Ænvasion! continues!! Join us on Victory Server at the AE Building in Rikti War Zone, 1pm Pacific/4pm Eastern. Zamuel is hard at work choosing arcs for the day on his home server! Remember, all levels and ATs are welcome to join so feel free to make an alt and see us there!

Anyway, we discovered some fun stuff concerning AE and Leagues that I hope to experiment with next week.
Heads up: I've started a thread in the Players Events subforum for the general public to follow the Ænvasion Event with.
Feel free to link to the new thread when promoting the event on your server. That way they don't have to wade thru our planning to get to the meat of it all.

The Instant Lair Delivery Service was a great, quick 1 mission arc to get the ball rolling. If you've ever wondered how a villain group is able to set up shop in a warehouse you JUST cleaned out in under 5 seconds, check out this fun meta humor mission with detailed NPCs and creative ties to forum jokes and lore! This arc gets my BEST CONCEPT award for the week!A big thanks again to Victory for our largest turnout yet! We appreciate the support and hope you enjoyed the arcs as much as we did
Next up was a classic arc that is very lowbie-friendly. Bricked Electronics brings the CoV enemy group, the Gold Brickers, to Paragon City and fleshes them out into a real threat for heroes! This is a very richly detailed arc with lots of clues to discover and plenty of sharp dialog. It has a very "organic" feel as the missions aren't your typical 'delivery boy' plots and are filled with characters that have their own motivations. It's worth a replay or 2 just to catch all the small bits you miss on a single run! MOST DETAILED and BEST OVERALL
And finally, Zam picked a Dev Choice arc to wrap things up! The 15+ Minute Tutorial, while a bit dated, is still chock full of great tips for players new to playing AE arcs or writing them! Both humorous and informative, if you take the 15 minutes to run through you're sure to pick up something useful! I heard quite a few "Oh, I didn't realize you could do that!"s while we ran it...and those were from experienced players & authors! MOST CREATIVE
Next Sunday (5/8/11): the Ænvasion! continues!! Join us on Infinity Server at the AE Building in Rikti War Zone at a special time: 530pm Pacific/830pm Eastern (following the RWZ Mothership Raid. Rayonn has volunteered to lead the way and rumor has it PERC may make an appearance, too! Remember, all levels and ATs are welcome to join so feel free to make an alt and see us there!

To be super nitpicky it was actually a Hall of Fame as opposed to a Dev Choice. Speaking of that mission, the sequel tutorial ADVANCED TUTORIAL - Knowledge is Power: Tips Tricks & Secrets #403441 is worth playing as well and is probably more in need of a play since it's newer.
Week 4 of the Ænvasion event was our biggest turnout yet! Infinity players showed up in force and ready to take on a wide variety of creative AE stories!

#379488 "Storming Citadel" by @MrCaptainMan

First up was the 80s-inspired action arc, Talos Vice! A fun, creative, story that not only mashes up the 80s icon, Miami Vice, with CoH lore, but also manages to fit perfectly into existing canon and break the mold of traditional storytelling by presenting all the mission text in a movie script format. This fast-paced, funny, and cinematic masterpiece took home BEST OVERALL for the week!Thank you to the players on Infinity and PERC for being so friendly and putting up with our issues with the League UI (note: we're going to skip using the League UI for future events until it's more stable). Your enthusiasm is contagious and we hope to return to Infinity for more AE events soon!
Next up, Rayonn chose a very different kind of story in When the Words Stop. Imagine a mystery crafted by the likes of Neil Gaiman, James Joyce, and Salvador Dali, with a dash of the comic The Unwritten and you've just scratched the surface of this truly unique arc. I can't even begin to claim I understood everything that happened in the story, but I do know it is very rich in detail and well crafted. If you run it and don't get the main gist, be sure to read your Souvenir for the Cliff Notes version. MOST UNIQUE! and worth a 2nd or 3rd play to get all the clues.
Storming Citadel wrapped up the day nicely with it's very clever use of AE to transport the players INSIDE the famous hero, Citadel, for a fantastic voyage of AE fun! This timed, 1 mission arc still comes off rich in story, character, and details. From the perfectly appropriate map to the repurposed enemies this is an arc that will get your heart beating and tickle your creative bone! MOST CREATIVE!
Next Sunday (5/15/11): the Ænvasion! continues!! Join us on Guardian Server at the AE Building in Rikti War Zone at our regular time: 9am Pacific/noon Eastern. Hello fellow Ænvaders!
We're about halfway through our event and, looking at the schedule, have some big name servers coming up. Problem is, we still need Æmbassadors!
Bubba has volunteered to lead the Virtue Ænvasion in 2 weeks but we would still like representatives from: Liberty, Champion, Protector, and Freedom. If one of these is YOUR home server and you'd like to help out, please let us know either by posting or via PM if you'd be willing to be Æmbassador.
Being Æmbassador is simple & rewarding:
Choose the arcs to run on your server's Ænvasion date (if you need help, members of the AE Storyteam can come up with some for you)If you've never led an AE arc before, it's actually pretty easy and there's plenty of support to show you how.
Lead one of the teams on your Ænvasion date, copy/pasting the unshared mish text and contact bio.
Promote the Ænvasion on your local server thru Forum posts and/or global chat announcements on the week leading up to the event.
Just let us know if you're up for it!

Ænvasion event week 5 had an even bigger turnout than last week! Guardian players, led by their own SupaFreak, showed up eager for some AE excitement. And Supa delivered with these 3 standout arcs!
#498588 "The Fractured Dreamer" by @theHedoren
4 Mish, Heroic
#493777 "Powers Division Briefing Files: Nictus & Nictus Cults" by @Baron Von Boomslang
1 Mish, Neutral
#367872 "Dhahabu Kingdom and the Indelible Curse" by @Zamuel
5 Mish, Heroic
One of the goals of the AE Storyteam is to shed light on arcs that have few plays but show either a unique creativity or story potential. SupaFreak played over 100 arcs in the weeks leading up to Guardian's Ænvasion and chose 3 he felt stood out and would be fun.Once again, a HUGE "Thank You!" to Guardian server for your enthusiastic participation. We actually had enough players show up for 3 teams if only we had enough leaders!
First up was The Fractured Dreamer. This is an arc that had 0 plays before Supa stumbled upon it! A fairly straightforward action arc with ties to canon groups: Crey, Malta and Carnival of Shadows, this arc was a solid telling of a poor mutant child being caught in the middle of many of the city's more nefarious organizations' schemes...and, of course, your role in saving her!
While the story wasn't ground-breakingly original, it was well detailed, balanced, had proper ties to canon, and was still fun! It felt very much like it could have been a regular arc in-game. BEST EFFORT!
Next up was something I'd never seen before: a test mission for an upcoming arc. Powers Division Briefing Files was created to test the balance and look of a custom enemy group. Now, normally, an author just slaps them in their arc and tests away. But here, the author created a separate, 1 mission arc so OTHER people can test his customs and leave feedback. And instead of just tossing the enemy group on any old map without any setup, he's crafted a memorable concept that makes the test arc a worthy story in and of itself!
The concept really lends itself to a whole series of "Who's Who" or "Marvel Universe" Guide-type missions. And it works as effective advertising for his upcoming arc! I, for one, would love to see more! MOST CREATIVE! and BEST CUSTOMS!
Our final arc, Dhahabu Kingdom, rounded out Supa's selections with a serious, detail rich story of a world in peril and your fate as its savior. It was unfortunate that the latest stealth patch to AE invalidated many of the custom enemies in this arc, as they are some of the most beautiful I've seen in AE. Bugs aside, the characters and richly detailed history of this arc still make it a rewarding play. BEST OVERALL!
Next Sunday (5/22/11): the Ænvasion! continues!! Join us on Virtue Server at the AE Building in Rikti War Zone at our regular time: 9am Pacific/noon Eastern. The ever-lovin' Bubbawheat will be picking the arcs so you KNOW it'll be a great time! Remember, all levels and ATs are welcome to join so feel free to make an alt and see us there!

Thank you for the great write up, BackFire.
To me, action draws me into the story and I know I'm different from some of you on what I may choose. I did NOT want to disappoint the AE Superteam since I am the n00b around town.
What you said in the final line of "Fractured Dreamer" is exactly what drew me to it. I felt these type arcs/missions could easily replace the outdated early Hero arcs. I was trying to deliver something different to the AE Superteam as well as Guardian, since you guys have experienced the A/E more than I. While it may not be TF worthy, it's waaaaaaay better than Radio and old Hero Arcs. And to me, it deserves plays and feedback if improvements can be made.
I do believe the "Powers Division" single mission was a hit, based on what I was hearing. Crazy long title, but wow... I find that mission and customs fun. Plus the tech readout was original and memorable.
I know I said to Backfire and Zamuel, but I chose Zamuel's arc without him knowing until selection came... because I really enjoyed both arcs related to the "Dhahabu Kingdom" personally and not because it was one of our members. I asked Zamuel the other night how you guys may feel if I do select one of our member's arcs as a choice first, and it seemed as if it would be okay. Sure, he surprised me when he actually played my arc and gave me feedback... some of which I don't totally agree with and he could have slammed my arc and 1 starred it and I'd still select his.
Anyhoo... I had a blast... love your guy's company... hope I didn't disappoint... and be seeing you all soon!
PEACE!
I've been revisiting Ae after a long break from it and would love to run with you guy's and gals sometime.

Week 6, the Ænvasion target was Virtue! 2 nearly full teams of Virtue faithful came out for Bubbawheat's Time-Warp themed AE adventures. The current copyright bug made for some last minute arc choices, but we still ran 2 chrono-riffic arcs and one infinitely awesome bonus arc!

Often the AE Storyteam will choose a theme for the week and search out arcs that fit, spotlighting a few that are well executed and have a unique/memorable twist. Today, Bubba decided to go with a Time Warp theme.I cannot thank the Virtue players enough for their enthusiasm and good spirits. I was happy to see comments afterward along the lines of, "Now this is how AE is supposed to played!" I couldn't agree more and thank you for taking the time to play with us
First up was Groundhog Daze, an older arc that still stands up to today's tastes. The story features a custom enemy mercenary group themed around Rodents (bonus points if you can spot the one that doesn't belong...and no, it's not the critter that's been invalidated). Their leader Pauxatawny Phil (sp?) is harnessing chronal energies to gain power for himself and you get caught in a loop trying to stop him.
The arc makes creative use of the level shifting ability of AE as your character is back-shifted each mission to show his/her loss of power. Normally if an arc switches levels between missions it's a distraction, here, it works FOR the story! Fun dialog, creative mechanics and unique customs get this story MOST CREATIVE and BEST CUSTOMS for the week!
Next up Bubba picked what's probably the most well-known time warp arc in AE...his own! Ctrl+Alt+Reset is already a Dev Choice and for good reason. It's a very well detailed and well polished romp thru the time loop as you try to solve the mystery of an evolving time machine and free yourself from an infinite loop! Pay close attention to your clue bag in the final mission as there's many fun pop-culture jokes and references.
While the arc does have its humorous moments, it's more of high-octane adventure than comedy show. And the creative take & mechanics make it BEST OVERALL for the week!
Those that stuck around for 1 more mission were treated to my off-theme bonus arc. I figured since we'd just run 2 infinite loop arcs, it'd be fun to share one of my favorite quickie mishes (as evidenced 2 weeks ago) that takes our players to an infinitessimal level...Storming Citadel!
This time, we wanted a slightly different experience so we actually failed the mission to get the alternate ending! ...Okay, so we didn't fail on purpose. I forgot it was a timed mission and we took too long reading, but it was a fun experience even though we almost supersized in Citadel's head >.< BEST HAPPY MISTAKE!
Next Sunday (5/29/11): the Ænvasion! continues!! Join us on Liberty Server at the AE Building in Rikti War Zone at our regular time: 9am Pacific/noon Eastern. Storyteam member and Liberty resident, Lord of Storms is stepping out of the shadows and onto center stage with his picks for the week! Glad that everyone enjoyed themselves. For some reason my internet decided that teaming was not going to happen - whenever I went in a mission with the team my netgraph started looking like a blood-spiked hedgehog and I was lagging and rubberbanding all over the place. It was far too distracting so I left early.

A big thanks to Lord of Storms for taking on the leader responsibilities this week. I was out of town so I don't have reviews but I recognize all of the arcs from my "favorites" list and highly recommend each of them. They're all a bit on the comedy side with Papers and Paychecks being the most well-rounded arc with it's ties to canon.A big THANK YOU to the players of Liberty, too! One of my favorite features of AE is the ability to create your own stories that could actually fit into existing CoH lore. Whether it's expanding on concepts already presented or using the existing lore as a background to create an alternate reality, the AE gives authors a unique playground to share their love of the rich background and characters of Paragon City. Many thanks to the players of Champion for putting up with my many team-wipes and not letting it get you down in the slightest! You get the GOOD NATURED SERVER award for such great attitudes Thanks!
With that said, I chose 3 unique arcs that really shine for players familiar with CoH lore!
Kidnap the Super-Brats is a 1 mission challenge arc that may be light on story, but is super-rich in details and canon ties. Playing the part of a villain is especially sweet when you realize just whose kids you're nabbing and it's a nice change of pace from your typical villainous loot run! Note: the Super-Brats are no pushovers, so be prepared for a real challenge on this arc with a team or solo. BEST CHALLENGE of the week!
If you've ever met Becky the Tarantula in Vernon Von Grun's missions in CoV, then you will especially enjoy Becky's Revenge. One of CoV's most memorable characters comes to life in this simple and hilarious revenge arc that pits you against fan-favorite-punching bag, Fusionette! Even if you're not familiar with Becky, you'll fall in love with her enthusiastic dialog as you hatch a brilliant scheme. LIKE, TOTALLY BEST CHARACTER of the week!
Our last arc this week was on a more serious note. The Wickerwork Khan is an adventure into an alternate Paragon, where familiar characters are slightly skewed (if you call being a Panda "slight!") The dialog, character details, and drop-dead gorgeous customs on this arc make it stand out as an AE classic. See if you can spot who's a counterpart of whom and be ready for an unexpected twist on the final mission! A treat for the eyes and your creative bone, this arc gets BEST OVERALL for the week!
Next Sunday (6/12/11): the Ænvasion! continues!! Join us on Protector Server at the AE Building in Rikti War Zone at our regular time: 9am Pacific/noon Eastern. I'm trying to get together a list of good Steampunk arcs, but if that doesn't happen I'll have a diff fun theme ready to roll! This week I wanted to get back to something AE Storyteam does regularly: pick arcs from a topical theme. Seeing as how the Steampunk Booster was recently released, it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up to check out what kind of steampunk arcs I could find in AE. Out of about 20 tested arcs, I found 3 that stood out. Many thanks to the players of Protector for slugging it out with us...esp on that last mish! You get the NEVER SAY DIE award and my undying gratitude for not burning me on the spit! Thanks!
Mechaneezer Scrooge is a 1 mission action arc that expands the classic Christmas Carol story with a steampunk twist. The customs can be challenging on a full team, but the costumes, bios, and dialog make this an enjoyable quickie. MOST CHRISTMAS-Y
The Steamworks Begin is a very unique arc, in that it serves as a transition for an otherworldly steampunk hero's introduction to Paragon City and it's just a well detailed steampunk story! Spot on dialog, beautiful customs, great map selection, and well-balanced enemies (if not a bit heavy on end drain) made this one BEST OVERALL for the week! Best of all, it's designed for lowbies up to lvl 20, so very accessible to almost all players!
Our final arc, Urban Renewal, is one of those arcs that plays well solo, but not so much on a team. The story is much more of a traditional, canon type arc pitting your character against a unique branch of Nemesis troops.
The customs on this arc take full advantage of the Steampunk Booster and everyone agreed, they were gorgeous and had great bios. The problem is, on a large group they become waaaay overpowered with multiple MM mobs that heal each other and vengeance being tossed all around. Ouch. Aside from the unbalanced customs, there is a fun story, memorable characters and gorgeous enemies that mesh well with canon. Definitely worth a play with 1 or 2 buddies! BEST LOOKING CUSTOMS
Next Sunday (6/19/11): the Ænvasion! continues!! Join us on Freedom Server at the AE Building in Rikti War Zone at our regular time: 9am Pacific/noon Eastern. I'm hoping @Djinniman takes note of this about the customs groups on teams.
Zamuel had to straighten me out on how unbalanced mine were for teams on Black as Midnight.
Adding a new "bot-type" or two and/or Changing/Removing a few powers here or there should be doable for that arc to really shine.
I see a lot of potential in it. Story and presentation seemed great.
Due to varying comments and suggestions, I propose that the Victory meeting take place at 4PM EST instead of 12 PM.
