A Disheartening Turn of Events

About two weeks ago I ventured into the Atlas park AE building looking to join a team and have some fun. Of course there was the usual chorus of players looking to exploit "farm" missions for experience - something I really don't have a problem with. What I did find irksome however was that there was one (probably more) actually looking to charge folks money for leading a farm-team. This person was also very blunt about it, going so far as to pose the rhetorical question of "why would he waste his time on a bunch of newbies if he wasn't going to paid for it?" This just struck me as being totally anathema to the spirit and comradeliness of gaming.

It also saddened me that another person instantly tried to label me a "troll" when I questioned the correctness of this mercernary endeavor.

So, for my own enlightenment, are "farms" considered okay? Is charging for them allowed? Are folks, generally speaking, okay with all this?

Peace to all.

general farming is one of those things thats just gonna happen and the devs usually dont favor it but they look the other way at it, the devs only dislike farms when they leverage exploits of some kind

on the basis of charging poeple to farm for them, thats entirely up to the person, i personally would not pay someone 2 mil per run of the mish but i hate running farm mishs for random poeple i dont know and would consider charging them for my time

if you dont like the farming but do like the AE, i suggest just going to a different AE building (theres one in virtually every city zone, exclusions are hazard zones and croatoa (heroside) and grandville (redside))

Yay! It's nice to see someone venturing into AE looking for stories

Most players I know frown upon Farming but it's not against the rules unless they're exploiting a bug. It's kind of a necessary evil to having the ability to craft our own arcs. Charging for Farm runs is no big deal, if I were PLing someone I'd expect something out of it, too. It's when they start charging real life money that they cross a line.

Just FYI- Atlas AE is going to be the least likely place to find players looking for AE stories. Doubly so if you're playing on Freedom.

If you want to find AE enthusiasts, join the MA Arc Finder global channel or your server's general PUG/Teaming channel and specifically say you're looking to run AE missions for story, not XP/Farming. You'll also have much better luck putting the team together yourself, rather than waiting for someone else to form one.

Have fun and happy gaming!

AE is, as per Positron, not supposed to be used for farming. If you come across a blatant farm it's perfectly fine to 1-star it and report it as such. Unfortunately, nothing will probably come of it.

As for charging for farms or PLs in general, people have been doing it long before there was an AE. As someone else said, as long as only in-game items are changing hands, they're not breaking any rules. Heck, people used to charge for badge missions before Ouroboros. Is this mercantile attitude sad? I think so. I had members of my own SG send me inf for sharing my mayhem missions shortly after i18 launched....what? But it's perfectly "legal" as it were. If you have a service people are willing to pay for, you can charge inf for it. Obviously people are paying, or nobody would bother.

Thank you one and all for the polite and helpful responses to my inquiry. It is appreciated.

I guess the responses helped me realize that perhaps it was the perception of arrogance in the "Why else would I waste my time ..." attitude rather than the act of charging in and of itself that bent me out of shape. I mean my personal outlook has generally been if I can help someone out then I'm honored to do so. I'm not above giving low level characters inspirations or an enhancement I crafted but didn't need (figuring they can either slot it or sell it themselves).

Again, thanks to everyone who responded and happy hunting.
