That IS a blindingly obvious natural pairing of writer and character. Unlike every other Marvel character, Frank is the only one who could actually exist in our world. That's perfect for Rucka.
Another way The Punisher is distinguished from the other Marvel properties: I think his wife and kids are the only Marvel U characters who haven't come back from the dead, now.

Actually, the Hood brought them back to life. Frank didn't like that one bit, so he burned them alive.
It's actually been implied in his latest mini that his wife, Maria, is still alive and working with the Jigsaw Brothers to bring him down.
Well, there you go. Everyone who's ever died in Marvel has now come back.

Wow. I think I might actually buy Punisher, now.
